  • "We came here for lunch on Easter and it was delicious! I'm sure the river view is beautiful on any day, but since the weather was so nice, they had windows and doors open to let in the light and cool air. The staff and service were both very good. The empanadas (crawfish that day) and the albondigas are definitely worth trying as well as the paella. They also have a nice rendition of shrimp and grits with the sofrito and chorizo. "

  • "The tapas here are varied and very tasty. The staff was helpful and friendly (though the restaurant was not crowded the night we were there). The view out over the river is fantastic. What's not to like?"

  • "Are here on a whim because few places which had an opening for French Quarter Fest. Service started out okay but went downhill quickly Bartender was a waiter for a table not a seat at the bar and that was the issue. He even said. I really quick with drink orders. That should have been a forewarning. Any time we asked for something we had to ask twice. When we got the dessert menu, it took him 45 minutes for him to return and that was also after us waving at him and multiple waiters to come. He then took our credit cards and then came back twice to ask each time how we wanted the bill split. Hostess had to do it because he just couldn't do the math. Food was good not great. Service ruined the night"

  • "Over priced The Over Hyped food fair The service unctuous & aggressively fawning Ambience that of a cafeteria Coffee cold and burnt Overall horrible experience Came away as if I was just mugged"

  • "Perfect place for a night out with the girls or a romantic date spot. Great Spanish tapas and entrees! Everyone was hospitable and they had a guitarist playing in the background. A must if you enjoy great food, music, and a view of the Mississippi River."

  • "Galvez is a lovely spot with beautiful river views. It's a block or two set back from the insanity of the French Quarter and has a lively but peaceful vibe. The service was great when my friends and I went. The food was not special but fine. I'd go back."

  • "If you like food on the blander side, this is the place for you. Very low salt, very poorly seasoned. We ordered the BBQ prawns, vegetarian paella, and the seafood paella. Along with the patatas bravas and salads. Everything was underseasoned -- everything. BUT, if you're on a low sodium diet and enjoy bland food, this is the place for you. The service is great, the wine list is average and the actual building is quite nice. Very old person friendly kind of place."

  • "In the middle of the French Market buildings, along the riverfront, up an elevator lies a gem of a spanish style restaurant. My wife and I like tapas, and enjoy sharing small portions of good and interesting dishes. That plus a table with a view of the river attracted us to Galvez. When we got off the elevator we were greeted by the owner and hostess. This is a family operation and it is easy to observe the love and effort made by mothers and daughters, to feed and please their patrons. The food was great, and the service was even better. Try everything, but leave a little room for the chef's special bread pudding for dessert."

  • "My girlfriend and I arrived at Galvez, we saw that there were about 9 other couples standing by the door still waiting to be seated. I checked in with the hostess and she said that they were running behind. We had a 9pm reservation, and at 9:45pm, as we still waited for a table, a random stranger came and told me that she and her husband had been seated for an hour and a half and still hadn't received there appetizers. When the time go to be 10:30pm, an hour and a half after our reservation, and we still did not have a table, we decided to leave and give up on eating. The following Monday, I emailed the restaurant to make them aware of how the night transpired, and they didn't respond at all. Beware of this poorly run restaurant."

  • "It was Valentines night and my wife and I had reservations for 9:15 p.m. Apparently, there was a wreck that caused a number of patrons to miss their earlier reservations and the restaurant was thoughtful enough to allow those individuals to check in later. However, this delayed those of us who had later reservations. Once again I commend the restaurant for honoring the earlier reservations. The problem with honoring those reservations was there was only one hostess who ran around like a chicken with her cut off trying to accommodate everyone. She did a fantastic job. However, the restaurant should consider having an additional hostess."

  • "A quality family owned restaurant with delicious Spanish (not mexican) food with a New Orleans flair. Highly recommend. The service was fantastic even on a busy Valentines Day night! Will send my friends and family. Great for a romantic night or with friends."

  • "This restaurant was an extreme disappointment. Food was ok at best, service was totally non-exist. Took over an hour between each course, had to beg for service, left very thirsty because we could not get anyone to order a drink. Just a total disaster. Never again. Don't waste your time; and it will be a lot of your time for a less than average meal."

  • "This was our second visit to Galvez, and it was on Valentine's Day. Galvez is a nice restaurant with good food. The view is ridiculously good at night, as compared to other French Quarter restaurants. Very romantic. Quiet. Good service, but slow. Food good, not inspired. But here's the problem. When the restaurant called to confirm our Open Table res, I was informed that the Valentine's Day menu was prix fixe. Fine. We don't like prix fixe menus, so I asked if we could order a la carte. Had the caller said "No", we would have politely declined our Valentine's reservation and moved on, possibly reserving later in the weekend (we wanted to dine at Galvez). She said "yes". And when we showed up, they said "no". We walked out."

  • "A beautiful romantic setting with excellent food. Is nice and quiet with an outstanding view of the river. It's European style dining is unhurried and relaxed. For their Valentine's Special Dinner all of that was true. However our waiter seemed to be dealing with quite a few errors coming from the kitched and magified the problems by his method of handling them. While we had no problems with our food. we had to request our second course after waiting 30 minutes after our appetizer plates were picked up. Again it took another 35 minutes from the time we requested our check until we were finally able to leave. in both instances it seems our waiter simply forgot about us while dealing with other issues."

  • "The restaurant was too open and too bright. They seemed understaffed when the bartender and server took turns waiting on us. The food was good, but the portions were on the small side. The server was friendly but def. inexperienced in the fine dining industry. Staff members could be heard laughing and cutting up right next to the customers. While the view of the river was nice, I'm not sure I will be back. For $25-30 entrees, there are far too many wonderful places I would go to before returning. When you're going up against some of the best restaurants in the country, you have to be on your A game."

  • "If you can get a window seat you can watch the river change colors at sunset while you drink the best white wine sangria I have ever had. Attentive and truly helpful service. It's hard to find a tapas restaurant where 8 of 8 dishes were superb, but this one missed only by a hair. Definitely a come back to place."

  • "Although they were slammed and short-staffed the evening we went, the hostess and server/bartender went out of their way to give us a lovely evening and more than made up for any delays. One of the members in our party has a service dog and they immediately brought over a bowl of water for our extra guest!"

  • "We had a wonderful time for New Years Eve here. Food was great and the view is perfect for the fireworks from the barge. The staff is very accommodating and the owner goes out of her way to make sure everyone is taken care of."

  • "My husband and I were truly looking forward to dinning at Galvez, but were instantly disappointed. We had reservations for Christmas Day and arrived on time. We had to wait for our table. The first room you enter was ok. there was a piano player and the room was decorated nicely. However, we were given a table in an adjoining room that had the atmosphere of a hospital cafeteria The room was all white, bare walls, no Christmas decorations at all. The service was very slow and the food was just ok. We have been visiting New Orleans every year for the past six years and we will not visit Galvez again."

  • "My husband & I went there Christmas Eve. We were so disappointed in the whole experience. It took 15 min before anybody came to wait on us then another 20 min to get a drink. We finally got our food an hour later & was very disappointed. I got the Paella(?) first to try it. Ate about 3 bites. It tasted like a mushy jambalaya. The restaurant has a great view but the food was not that great."

  • "Appetizer never arrived. People watching iPhone videos loudly. Server unaware of need to replenish knives, forks, spoons for new courses. Server left wine bottle on table instead in table-side container. Extra-long wait for food. Not especially impressive."

  • "We opted for an early reservation (4 p.m.) on Dec. 27. To our happiness, we had the entire restaurant to ourselves as the staff began setting up for another evening. Our waiter gave us considerable attention, and his recommendations, particularly to try the house hot sauce, amplified our enjoyment. Wonderful location, as we had a table that faced the Mississippi, and we were entertained by the Natchez paddle boat, as well four or five cargo ships. The gumbo was divine, as were each of the 5 tapas that we shared (roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, sausage balls, grilled chicken, and crab cakes. Chocolate cake for dessert. We waddled back to our French Quarter hotel content and stress free."

  • "I ate here with my sister. It would definitely more suitable for couples. The white wine sangria was not good at all. Our waiter was new, but very friendly. The food was not the best, but wasn't bad. I'm glad that I tried it, however, I don't feel the need to return."

  • "I was given a perfect spot with a view of the Mississippi River Bridge on Christmas Day. The waiter, Joshua, was immediately attentive without being annoying or overbearing. My choice was the 4-course Revillion menu and it was a bargain. Quinoa salad, gumbo, paella and flan for dessert. I couldn't eat everything, but my leftovers were attractively packaged for takeaway. This was everything I had hoped it would be for Christmas Day and more."

  • "This was our first time at Galvez. We had Christmas dinner there and loved it!!! The food was excellent as was the service! Looking forward to returning to New Orleans and having brunch there next time. We have already recommended it to family and friends!"

  • "Good service-had the Reveillion meal. 45$ -good price for what we got. We ate in the big room on the right. Beautiful room and view but very noisy-needed some sound deadening. Our waiter was very sweet . The owner checked frequently which was very nice."

  • "From the moment we arrived we were treated with superb service by everyone. The owners were actively engaged with guests assuring that every need was met. Food was very good and abundant. The restaurant was noisy but cheery. Would certainly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We were celebrating my adult son's birthday and we had a great experience! The food was excellent, I think we tried almost everything on the menu. The sangria is uniquely tastey! The weather was nasty so the place was not crowded. We had lots of attention from the staff, they were very entertaining! The veiws were fantastic. My only complaint is it is a little difficult to find."
    Dined on 12/6/2013
  • "The food was tasty, nicely presented, and the right temperature but not particularly noteworthy. And while the restaurant touts a superb view of the Port of New Orleans, the view is probably best seen before sunset. Otherwise the only discernible feature is a bridge and the occasional passing barge. Reflection off the glass renders everything else indistinguishable. Finding the restaurant is a chore (its located in the same range of buildings housing Cafe du Monde et. al.}, and you take an elevator to it; the elevator door opens and you find yourself staring immediately at the diners. The ambience approximates a Holiday Inn restaurant's. It is not intimate. The staff overcomes these drawbacks with friendly attentive service."

  • "Made a reservation, probably did not need one. Seated in a corner booth overlooking the Missippi, lovely and thoughtful of the hostess. Wait staff was excellent, helpful, friendly and very accommodating. Enjoyed the sangria, immensely, although it had a mulling spice flavor, different in taste from what we were accustomed to. Ordered Tapas and Special Entrée. Enjoyed it all, especially the sauce on the entrée."

  • "This is a beautiful spot, but the food and prices leave much to be desired. If you want to experience this location, just have an over-priced drink at the bar. The portion size and food flavor were poor. All of the staff were very nice, but the meal was quite disappointing."

  • "In a city that abounbs with amazing sights, oddly there are no restaurants with a view of the Mighty Mississippi. Except Galvez, which has a commanding panoramic 2nd floor view frok its location just by the river. The viewcis fantastic, the restarant has an intimate romantic feel. The food is Spanish, and Spanish influenced, refreshing in a city where much of the food is French, Cajun or Creole. The service is excellent. A very nice dining experience."
