Diner Reviews
  • "Great food and service. Staff was very attentive and engaging. Delicious dishes, well prepared and served with attention to detail."

  • "We invited another couple to join us for lunch at the Gallery Restaurant and found it to be very good, but not quite up to its performance for dinner. Our concern was that the crab cake main course had a corn salad that did not list cilantro as an ingredient, and my wife, who ordered it, hates cilantro. The service was generally fine, but our server was a bit absent minded at times, requiring reminders about details. So this time our rating is that lunch was very good, not excellent. We'll certainly go back since any restaurant can be off occasionally, and this was minor in the grand scheme of things."

  • "We came for our 3 year anniversary. The food was fantastic, the staff was fantastic, and our host, Jason, was fantastic. We had an excellent time."

  • "A nice treat from room service. Good food. Very attentive service. Wonderful quiet dinner. However they can accommodate large groups easily. If you are staying at the hotel- The Ballentyne- I would give it a try."

  • "We travel here for golf and spa but also this restaurant. Very attentive service, nice art, good presentation and great food. Enjoyed dinner once and great breakfasts twice."

  • "All dines were excellently prepared and delicious. Wonderful fresh seafood. We had an early reservation, thankfully, since the incoming corporate groups were very loud and rowdy. Awesome service."
    Dined on 3/12/2014
  • "The food was excellent, with fantastic tastes. My wife's filet was, however, medium rather than the medium rare she ordered"

  • "My wife had the angus filet mignon and was very happy with it. For me, the salmon was prepared nicely, but a little under cooked (better than over cooked). We both had the squash soup minus the bacon and we both enjoyed it. We did think that the soup was a little too thick, but tasty. We enjoyed a nice bottle of NorthStar merlot. The service was very good and friendly except for the fact that the cocktails seemed to take a little long to arrive. It was after a stressful drive in so we both may have been a little impatient. I would recommend this restaurant based on our experience."

  • "We ordered the Bison and Salmon entrees and both were ridiciously small. The bison had good flavor, but was tough and gristly. Also ordered the ceasar salad which was the smallest salad I was ever served at any restaurant... The bill was over $100 and we were still hungry when we left the restaurant. Disappointed."

  • "My companion and I dined at Gallery Restaurant on Saturday evening and the experience was incredible. The staff was extremely friendly, the food was absolutely divine and the atmosphere was lovely. Gallery is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the Queen City and dare I say, nationally. I've dined at places across the world and never had service as courteous, friendly and on point with every detail as I had with Gallery. I am tremendously pleased with this restaurant."

  • "Best hotel restaurant I've had the pleasure to done at - very good!"

  • "The people, service and atmosphere were very good, but the food was disappointing. I had the flounder and my companion had salmon. There are two of our favorite seafoods, but both dishes were bland and tasteless. Very disappointing especially given the price. I whose this restaurant based on the Open Table reviews and the location. I do not recommend. Sorry."

  • "I do believe this restaurant can be romantic but on a busy night we got crammed into a side room with six other couples and could hear the private conversations going on. If we were in the main room in the booths that would not have happened. It really took away from enjoying our time there and there was no ambiance to enjoy. Food was excellent."

  • "Our waiter from the start was not overly friendly or helpful. This was my second time there but my wife's first. I had a great first experience which made me want my wife to experience. From the start my wife kept asking me if it was like this when I came to which I said no. It seemed to have gotten worse when I asked about getting their yummy macaroons. He said they weren't available. When I asked on my first visit it wasn't a problem. For some reason the waiter asked if we were guest of the hotel and we said no, we live 5 minutes away. From then on he was very friendly actually giving us some of the Almond macaroons to go. My wife even made a comment early on about how he probably thought we were hotel guests not locals."

  • "Beautiful restaurant with excellent service! The chef is creative and the food is substantial. The deco has been recently updated and beautifully done. Great all around restaurant."

  • "My wife and I have dined at some of the best restaurants in the world. After reading the reviews we had high expectations for the gallery restaurant. The Ballantyne hotel and spa was great, the food at the Gallery brought a romantic weekend to a crashing halt! We ordered the lamb check and french onion soup for starters. The soup was watery and flavorless. The lamb check was dried out and the "chili" was not edible. The pasta in the rabitt pappardalle was house made and very good, the sauce was horrible and ruined the dish. the baguette was burnt. The veal bucco was a real let down and tasted like it came out of a crock pot. We ended up going to burger 21 and krispy kreme. Room service for breakfast was equally bad, burnt food!"

  • "Service was terrible. We saw the manager more than our waiter. Service was very slow. The food was mediocre at best.not a good value for what we paid!"

  • "We went to Gallery Restaurant for our 10th wedding anniversary, and would have to say it was one of the best restaurants we have experienced, and that is after living in 5 countries in the last 15 years. The decor and ambiance was very nice, and the food was fantastic. Our waiter Billy was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the food. The prices were also very reasonable, with some main meals under $20. We will definitely go back."

  • "Great food, professional service and nice atmosphere. Nice to feel we had the table for the evening and to have plates removed only after everyone was finished. Duck dish was outstanding. Also, the bar is neat place before or after your meal."

  • "We have participated in the Queens Feast for the last two years and have found that this experience has been the best. I did not anticipate that it would be this excellent!!"

  • "We had a wonderful experience from the moment we walked in to Gallery. The service was courteous, warm, and attentive. Our food was delicious and prepared exactly as we had ordered. Not an inexpensive night, but this place is the whole package - pleasant setting, excellent service, and delicious food. We hope to return again soon!"

  • "My wife and I were looking forward to a date night at Gallery for restaurant week. Frankly, we were disappointed with the food quality and taste. The mushroom pappardelle was short on mushrooms and had a thin watery sauce - as if the pasta was not fully strained before being incorporated. French onion soup was over-salted and chocolate cake was just ok. I'm surprised the food made it past discerning chef eyes because it was definitely substandard. Unfortunately, an anti-climactic experience."

  • "Nice selection for Queens Feast - very nice presentation of food"

  • "My wife and I had an excellent beef fillet dinner (at an attractive promotional price) and then proceeded to the bar area for a desert wine tasting, despite it being an hour later than scheduled and the tasting being "over." No problem. The hostess accommodated us graciously, rounded up the appropriate accompanying pastries from the kitchen (delicious), and even substituted a more expensive wine for one that had been originally scheduled -- the planned variety was gone. Between the great food and the special service, we had a delightful evening."

  • "Normally you expect overpriced mediocre food at a hotel, particularly an upscale hotel like the Ballantyne. Not so here. Prices were reasonable for the high quality of food you got and the service was outstanding. There was a large business group but that did not detract from the attention we got from our waitstaff."

  • "Thank you, great waiter, staff, food and wine delicious. coconut ice cream was heavenly. Perfect evening!!!"

  • "This is my third time at the Gallery. Service and presentation is lovely. Portions are somewhat small for the price but then again we all need to eat less! The food is very good and this is a nice place for a quiet romantic dinner....even if the couple next to us did have a crying toddler!"

  • "We were greeted graciously, and served promptly. Food was delivered timely. Very enjoyable. Will add to regular repeats."

  • "We enjoyed a nice quiet dinner at The Gallery this past weekend. The service was fantastic, and made sure we had everything we needed. Great place for a romantic dinner."

  • "My friend and I visited Gallery to experience the newly renovated space and menu. The space is elegant, comfortable and inviting. You might feel you have entered an NYC establishment. Our service was accommodating and gracious. My friend had a dish she frequently eats, the burger with the sweet potato fries and pronounced it brilliant. I regret that I did not order the same. We both had a salad which was fine but had some kind of dried fruit in it which was a bit of a jarring element. I had the crab cake appetizer which was also fine. I think my regret about not getting the burger colored my enjoyment of my meal."

  • "This is our first time to gallery. We went during restaurant week. The crab cakes and the tenderloin were superb. I would strongly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Excellent food, with innovative, well-chosen sauces. Wide range of choices, excellent wine list - Molly Dooker Shiraz actually underpriced."
    Dined on 1/16/2014
  • "Wanted to try the locally sourced Winter menu items that were showcased in the Ballantyne Magazine. Opted for the mussels....could be the best item on the appetizer list, hands down. So deliciously tender with the perfect amount of "kick" in the light sauce. BLT mac and cheese was equally unique, but a bit too heavy for an appetizer portion. Will definitely need to return to try the new menu again."

  • "The food was exceptional. Classic items -French onion soup, Cesar Salad , fried chicken - had distinctive preparations. Other menu items notably seafood items very unique The Gallery staff work very hard to be both attentive and friendly Wine list is excellent. As guests in the hotel, we joyfully went back two nights in a row But this is worth a visit even if you are not staying in the hotel."

  • "Pricey but worth it especially for a special occasion which is why we chose this place. Great food and great service. I'm really picky (I've sent the water back) and this was top-notch."

  • "The Gallery had a diverse menu ranging from duck to steaks. Food was prepared to order and the staff was knowledgeable about the menu items. The staff was eager to please and interacted well with the two preschoolers who dined with us. The kids menu had the same items you would see at other kid-friendly places, but the portions were very large, so the two preschoolers split one dinner and had an adequate portion each. Overall, this is a nice place to dine in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte, but it is probably overlooked unless one stays in the Ballantyne hotel."

  • "I had eaten here a few years ago and was disappointed with the quality of the food.. but I'm glad I gave it another shot. It was one of the very few restaurants open on Christmas...The service was friendly but extremely professional. The menu has gone through a major overhaul and is now fit for any foodie I know. I highly recommend the Ballantyne Martini.. it was made with fresh fruit and absolutely delicious. Order the bone marrow mushroom side... you won't regret it! My dinner companions ordered the creme brulee and the bignets.. which were amazing.. steer clear of the raspberry mousse though... it tasted store bought and was disappointing to say the least."
