A word from Gallaghers Steakhouse
Founded by former Ziegfield girl Helen Gallagher and the colorful gambler and sports enthusiast Jack Solomon, Gallaghers opened as a speakeasy and steakhouse in 1927. At that time, the height of Prohibition, a good stiff drink and a great steak were hard to find in New York – except, of course, at Gallaghers.

New Yorkers come for the world-class cocktails and incredible steak – prime beef dry-aged for 21 days in Gallaghers’ legendary windowed meat locker. The combination of all-natural dry aging and cooking it to perfection over hickory coals makes for a steak unlike any other found in New York.

Menu offers something for everyone and the steaks are what you would expect from a top rated New York City steak house. Server was very helpful with suggestions from the menu and we were not rushed at the end of our meal. A very pleasant experience."

  • "For the reviewers who expect something other than classic steakhouse menu, decor, or ambiance... get over yourselves. This place is classic and should remain so for another 50 years. The menu is straight up steaks, seafoods, and amazing apps/sides. Ronny, our waiter, is a gem. Such a great service attitude and knows his stuff when it comes to food around the country. Their house-made deserts were terrific. The entire array of food we selected exceeded very high expectations. They are now on my favorites list for all future visits to Manhattan."

  • "Seems cliche, but it is ultimately true. Went to Gallagher's for a pre-theatre meal with my teenaged boys. Our waiter was personable, efficient and fun. Our food was delicious: The filet mignon, NY Strip and ribeye we had, respectably, were perfectly done. I would go back to Gallagher's in a heartbeat."

Even leaving the restaurant after our delicious meal, everyone that saw us thanked us for coming. It was charming to see all the waiters sing Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday to other tables in our area. The only negative was that our table was near the cooking area and while it was interesting to watch, it was quite warm in our area of the restaurant."

The Service was great, with recommendations given The seafood medley was fresh and the the steaks were amazing ( my kids loved the mash, the Gallagher chips were delicious although the fries were way too overcooked). We'll be going back to Gallaghers next time we're in town."

  • "I have visited the Las Vegas Gallaghers and was blown away from my prime rib. I am not a meat eater unless in the mood for a good steak or a special occasion. This was the best whim decision I had made. The one in NYC did not disappoint either. From being greeted, seated, service, and final touches it was top notch. Soto and Stan were incredible. They helped with information about the menu to even questions we had about the concert next door at Roseland. If you want to treat yourself this is your place to choose. Excellent!"

  • "We had a lovely dinner after going to a Sunday Matinee down the block. We made a reservation and were seated to the minute of our reservation. The wait staff was fabulous - pleasant, funny, attentive. The food was absolutely terrific. We heard it had been recently renovated and under new ownership -- so it was wonderful to see that the new changes have not impacted Gallagher's reputation. Ask about "The Other Soup" on the menu -- the story is a hoot!"

We had the crab cocktail, lobster cocktail and the French onion soup all were a perfect start to our dinner. Bar was great as well. We stayed in NYC for a show and after thee show we went back for a night cap and the drinks her all done so well. Nice, knowledgable bar tenders! Overall great evening!!"

  • "I came to Gallaghers with my family and friends from the UK. It was the night before my wedding and there were six of us. Ive been before some years ago but i understand it was under new management. What should have been a night of nerves was a lovely, fun,relaxed night. The staff were amazing and were happy to look after us for the many hours we were there. There's doing your job and theres going that extra mile! The staff certainly deserve praise from the owner for the way they conduct themselves. We will all have fond memories of that night. In fact, we did not go out to dinner on our wedding night as we just could not beat the great time we had at Gallaghers!"

  • "We visited the old restaurant a number of times and enjoyed it and wondered if the new one would meet the same expectation. We felt a little hemmed in wit the table for two rather close to the adjacent ones but the ambience was good as was the decor. We fought the food was good in do much as we got good steaks however the baked potato was cold as were the side of mushrooms. They didn't charge us for the bled potato. The wine list was good and on our last vists managed to get an excellent Amarone called Latium which they now don't stock however the one I chose was excellent. Overall and enjoyable experience."

  • "The best thing about Gallagher's is the street view of their steak aging room. Dining room has been remodeled and updated from several years back, but the old 40's atmosphere turned out to be the best thing going for it. Tables impossibly close together. Old fashioned tasted like a sugar cocktail. Wrong steaks served to wrong person. No one ever checked to see if steak was cooked properly (one wasn't) $12 for a slice of cheesecake, when five blocks away, Junior's serves better at half the price. I won't be fooled again."

  • "Went here on a rainy Saturday night while staying next door at Novotel. The decor is very steakhouse but slightly brighter lighting. Love the aged steaks room. We had our 2 children and the staff was friendly and welcoming, especially coat girl. Sat down ordered some apps, wedge and Caesar salads as well as french onion soup. All were excellent especially soup. Kids ordered chopped steak to share, we had porterhouse for 2. Steaks were cooked perfectly my one knock would be they were under seasoned. They did bring a homemade steak sauce that is excellent. Sides were solid and the cheesecake was top notch. Excellent wine list as well."

  • "I had no complaints with overall experience, but I found it expensive and did not represent good value for money.i have had comparible dining experiences for lower cost. It would depend how much of a premium you put on its location and reputation. The atmosphere was good and the staff were very good. 2 main courses(fillet mingon, most expensive steak on menu) , 1 glass of wine , 1 cola . $150 + $20 tip. No starters or desserts. If you have the money to spend It's a nice place."

Wines by the glass are a bit limited - they should have nightly specials of good bottles. Service was typical NY steakhouse. Tables around me all appeared to be happy with their selections."
