A word from Gaido's Seafood Restaurant
The toast of the Texas coast.
How can frozen fish be called fresh? The answer for anyone with snap is simple: it can’t. That’s why Gaido’s is the classic choice for fresh Gulf seafood. Patrons know Gaido’s is real, when others are clearly not. From red snapper and blue crab to white tablecloths crumbed with panache, there’s no denying Gaido’s is one-of-a-kind in a world of imitation. Now, after four generations of filleting, frying, grilling and baking, Gaido’s has grown into the picture perfect place of traditions– birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, reunions. As the largest fresh fish house on the coast, Gaido’s can serve up to 2,500 happy diners a day. Plus, with the Pelican Club, private dining, catering, a new food truck and parking galore…it’s easy to see why Gaido’s -– for over 100 years – is truly the coastal classic.Continued

  • "Thank you Gaido's for making our 50 year Anniversary special! The food was wonderful, the service was great thanks to Jared!"

  • "We were really looking forward to eating at Gaido's on our recent trip to Galveston, and are sad to report it is not keeping up with the other good restaurants that have opened. We sat at the bar to catch the Astros game, so we can't comment on the dining room service. The young woman working behind the bar was very nice, but knows nothing about working in a restaurant. The red snapper was wonderful, but the shrimp cocktail was very small and nearly frozen (we are in Galveston, not Oklahoma!!), the caesar's salad had obviously been sitting out for quite a while, and the sides with the fish were barely warm. We sadly are taking this one off our list."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner at Gaido's all from the reservation to the check. The service was impeccable, and the food out of this world! The salmon was delicious, and the snapper meuniere was one of the best I have ever had! Sadly there was no space left for dessert, thuogh the creme brulee was calling for me. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Try the snapper Michael and the pecan pie! Absolute musts!"

  • "Every time I visit this restaurant I have a good experience. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, the food is excellent, and the atmosphere is relaxing. And if you have a table next to a window, you have a nice view of the sea wall. This is a great place to take a date or a group of great friends."

  • "The food was up to its usual high standard. Service was not terrible but certainly not up to Gaido's usual standards: I had to ask twice for my tea, we had to ask twice about an item on the menu, out entrees were brought before we had finished our salads and we had to tell the wait staff to not take our salads yet. You expect this type of stuff to happen at Denny's or the Pappa's chains. Not at Gaido's. I had to apologize to my guests visiting from Rhode Island when we left. I've never had to apologize for anything at Gaido's before. Maybe it was just an off night."

  • "We were very pleased with our red snapper ordered by all four of us but prepared differently. Our waiter, Christian, was very knowledgable and patient. We were offered a wine sample to help us decide what to order."

  • "Whenever we are in the Galveston area, visiting Gaido's is a must. We always start off with the gumbo. Then my husband has the stuffed shrimp with the parmesan tomatoes and I have the snapper, grilled with the parmesan tomatoes. The fish was cooked perfectly. The portions are large. We both took some of our entree home to have the next day. The service was excellent, too. I want to mention that for the first time in my life, I walked in jeans because we had just driven in from Austin. I was concerned that might make a difference in the service we received, but it did not. I also want to recommend that you make reservations. This was not possible until a few years ago and now it is offered through Open Table and I highly recommend it."

  • "We had a wonderful experience of with the service and food at this historical establishment. The seafood was second to none and the service was exactly right."

  • "The atmosphere at Gaido's is welcoming and the service never fails to impress. On top of everything, the food is outstanding. Gaido's is a must whenever in Galveston, whether you have been before or not."

  • "Sorry to learn that the "Complete Meal" is gone. Complete meal included soup or salad and dessert. So everything is ala cart now, so plan on $40 per person minimum out the door. The food was wonderful, as always. I had the Watkin's Bisque and Cy's Demise (Flame grilled Oysters on the halfshell). My wife had the Shrimp Peggies, very good as always. Server was knowledgeable and friendly. Visited on March 17, 2014."

  • "My friends and I enjoyed a delicous meal! The oysters were fabulous and the fish was so fresh! The wait staff was great and the bar was super too! I liked everything about Gaido's!"

  • "First I think its only fair for me to disclose that I am a Galvestonian and have been going to Gaido's as long as I can remember. Actually, Gaido's is the reason I love seafood so much and the whole reason I love red snapper and oysters. I brought my kids with me this time and now they are both bonafide seafood lovers too - even tasting oysters for the first time. This time, the food was every bit as good as I remember and we had wonderful service with Ruth. She took excellent care of us and was very attenttive. I highly recommend Gaidos and Rith! I do reccommend reservations during high season - actually all the time. There is always something going on in Galbeston and Gaido's ia a favorite for everyone!"

  • "We've eaten at Gaido's for years when we visit Galveston. We were a little disappointed with this visit. The food wasn't as good and service was slow. We waited for 15 min. with a reservation and the restaurant didn't seem that busy. The bread was highlight of meal. It was delicious!"

  • "Food was lousy, my wife and I went expecting some delicious seafood and what we got was not even on par with Gordon's will not return."

  • "I brought my 5 & 7 yr old here for a special dinner, everything was good and they were so well behaved that I promised them each a special dessert. After our meal our server never came back to check on us or even ask us if we wanted dessert. He finally stopped chatting up the larger table for 1 minute and said dessert ladies and at that point I said no thank you its late and I don't feel like sitting here for another 45 minutes to get it. I asked for my check and he brought it to us and said sorry about that I gave you your iced tea for free. Thanks. I ended up leaving and taking my girls for an ice cream cone elsewhere. Over all it started out great but didn't last."

  • "We have been going to Gaidos since the early 70's. After all our visits, we were very disappointed this week to find out that they have discontinued the three course menu option, which is just perfect for someone who wants a half portion or wants to sample more items. Although the homemade dressings and Watkins bisque are still as good as ever, the menu changes may make us rethink our next visit."

  • "Quite possibly the most spectacular seafood my fiancé and I have had in a good, long while! Friendly, attentive service. Warm, welcoming atmosphere. Dining room was nothing fancy, and after hearing such raves about it's exquisite cuisine, I was a little surprised to see so many families in casual clothing. Fine dining food meets family friendly atmosphere."

  • "I have been to Gaidos on many occasions and it had always been good. This time the food was lack luster and luke warm. However, our server was excellent. I doubt I will be returning. There are many other places on the island that are much better."

  • "Brought a friend to Gaido's -- after telling him about the legendary food that I have had there in past years. The food was disappointing -- to say the least. We each had the Michael preparation -- he with catfish and mine was snapper. I've had this several times in the past with wonderful results. We each had the same reaction -- that the fish was ok, but hardly something to be excited about. Hoping that the restaurant can turn this around! I'll try one more time, but I'll never be able to get this particular friend to go again."

  • "we had a nice quiet evening with friends of ours that were in for the weekend for Mardi Gras. It was a Monday night and weather was awful, cold & damp, but still enjoyed ourselves and had a great meal. Thank you for the great service."

  • "My husband and I have been dining here for many years, and it's still a special treat for us. In fact, we drive 4 hours just to eat at Gaido's every oyster season. Our favorite is the baked oyster platter, but everything else we've tried has been delicious. I love the old-fashioned fine dining atmosphere, the knowledgeable waitstaff, and the view of the Gulf. But it's really all about the food. We've eaten at many good restaurants all along the Gulf Coast, and Gaido's ranks in the top three."

  • "This was our 2nd visit to Gaidos. Their seafood is fresh and delicious. If you want excellent service, white linens, great food, and a chance to be treated like royalty, eat here!"

  • "The food was great here. But the smell is horrible. It smells like a cross between must and something sour/rotten. It permeates from the entrance to the dining area. They may need to replace the carpet, but the smell is really bad. I almost walked out before I ate."

  • "Somewhat disappointed this time around. It seems that the menu has shrunk and the vairety is no where near what it used to be. We considered Gaido's a special treat in the past. Now it is just so so. Probably won't go back."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "We have eaten at Gaido's many, many times. It is always our favorite place to have dinner when in Galveston. We love it because it has such history and is so Southern/Gulf Coast style. Usually the food is good, and it is fun to order because of the way you pick and choose your fish and it's preparation, but this time it was wonderful!! The oysters on the half shell we ordered to begin the meal were as fresh and perfect as they could be. The fish, both my red snapper and my husbands tile fish, were done perfectly. Could not have been better! Thanks Gaido's!"

  • "This was my 16th anniversary, for my wife and I. The food was ok. for Valentines Day, I expected better. Our server was excellent. He took good care of us. We were seated in a banquet room area, and it was horribly stuffy. No ambience, subdued lighting or candles. There was no music and the tables were very close together. I have been going to Gaido's for over 20 years. I will now find a new place to eat in Galveston. The food quality has greatly diminished. What a shame."

  • "Everything we ordered was wonderful. The service was very good and the staff in every department was friendly and efficient. We had a great experience at Gaido's."

  • "We couldn't say enough nice things about our evening out. Jared was our waiter and I highly recommend him. The fire alarm went off during our meal but he stayed near to keep us updated. It was our anniversary and he comped our dessert."

  • "Reservations a must. We were seated within 3minutes of arriving. Drinks cold and delicious. Since it was our anniversary we ordered champagne and it was nicely chilled and tasty. We did have to pour our own refills so that was a bit of a surprise. It was pretty busy though. Food served quickly and it was delicious. My dish was a bit bland but still tasty. Dessert was wonderful! Pecan pie is their signature dessert and it did not disappoint!"

  • "The restaurant is wonderful! The decor is unique and beautiful. The staff was was very friendly and knowledgeable! We were greeted within seconds of entering and seated within a minute and within 5 minutes our orders had been taken, drinks and bread served. The appetizers, entree and desserts were served quickly. Everything was absolutely delicious and fresh! The portion size is big and worth the price. It is family owned and operated and you can tell by the service and food that they take pride in what their family has built over the past 100+ years. We will definitely be dining at Gaido's again."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "Expected better than what we were served, The fish did not look or taste fresh and there was nothing special about the sides. Certainly not the fault of the restaurant but it didn't help the meal being sat next to a large family with young children, and with parents not so interested in managing table behavior."

  • "It was a while back since I went there, so I can only remember part of what we got. But let's say the Oyster Platter was excellent. The only addition to it to top it off would be a raw oyster."
