A word from Gaido's Seafood Restaurant
The toast of the Texas coast.
How can frozen fish be called fresh? The answer for anyone with snap is simple: it can’t. That’s why Gaido’s is the classic choice for fresh Gulf seafood. Patrons know Gaido’s is real, when others are clearly not. From red snapper and blue crab to white tablecloths crumbed with panache, there’s no denying Gaido’s is one-of-a-kind in a world of imitation. Now, after four generations of filleting, frying, grilling and baking, Gaido’s has grown into the picture perfect place of traditions– birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, reunions. As the largest fresh fish house on the coast, Gaido’s can serve up to 2,500 happy diners a day. Plus, with the Pelican Club, private dining, catering, a new food truck and parking galore…it’s easy to see why Gaido’s -– for over 100 years – is truly the coastal classic.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "My sister took me to Gaido's for my 70th birthday lunch. As a Houston native, I have been to Gaidos in the past, but not in more than 40 years. I lived outside the area for that amount of time. Going back to a place you have fond memories of is always a risk, but this turned out to be a terrific return. I chose the blackened red fish, as the waiter recommended, and it was cooked perfectly. Service was attentive and responsive. The ambience is that of a long term restaurant that has earned is reputation. it was comfortable. not flashy or trendy, but then neither am I. Its a long drive to Galveston's seawall from my place northwest of Houston, but worth every mile. I will return again soon."

  • "A friend and I chose to dine at Gaido's before attending a TEXAS TENORS concert at The Grand Opera House. We were not disappointed. Arriving shortly before the time of our reservation, we were seated promptly by a window table. The cocktails were excellent as was the appetizer we ordered. This was followed by our entree served in a timely manner, but not before we finished the appetizer. This was much appreciated. Our entree was exactly as we had ordered; we finished up by sharing a delicious dessert. The food was plentiful and well presented. The service was prompt, but not intrusive. We will return."

  • "The last time I was there was 1970 with my parents and family friends who lived in Galveston. They belonged to the Private Dining Club and even though that is not where we dined I was very surprised at how casual the entire business had become. No valet parking, the front lot was open to beach parking (first come....). There was an abundance of shell material in both the crab cakes and the crab fingers, not what I expected. I had made a reservation as soon as I knew we were going to Galveston, yet on arrival we had to wait as long as the swimsuit walk ins. When the hostess took us to a table next to screaming infants I told her that we would go elsewhere unless something else was available, so she had us stand by that table."

  • "Definitely get the trio of soups as an appetizer….Sooo yummy! The bread is utterly fantastic as well. I ended up having crab cakes for dinner and have to say they are some of the best I have ever had!"

  • "Gaidos was recommended by many, but my husband and I were disappointed. Lots of fish options--I had the tile fish with a small scoop of crab topping. Tasty, but too expensive for what you get ($35). Plus, the filet was swimming in a butter sauce (WAY too much!). The "side" of tomatoes was three thin slices. He ordered a pasta dish. Portions were good, but the sauce was not creamy enough. The best part of the meal was the fresh bread with dipping sauce. Also, the Peach Bellini was good (although small for the cost). Both of us ended up with stomach aches that night (probably from the excessive use of oil/grease). I did not find this place to be worth it."

  • "First time at Gaido's, food was everything I was promised. My daughter and I had crab dishes and dessert. Both memorable. Service, not so much. We had the one waiter that couldn't answer menu questions and I knew the restaurant history better than he did. He was chatty and uncomfortable, would be more suited for Chili's. Unattentive, slow and not concerned with whether we liked our meal or had empty plates in front of us for 10 minutes. This combined with being ignored by three managers that circled every table around us the entire time we were seated and not once did anyone ask us how we were doing or how our meal was. I was going to say something when leaving but was ignored upon exit as well."

  • "We have dined at your restaurant since I was a child - and I am now 74 years-of-age. Talk to anyone about dining in Galveston and the vast majority associates 'Gaido's' with the best seafood available. The ambience of your restaurant, and that of the 'Pelican Club,' still retains an elegance associated with a time when dining was a treat - not just a necessity. Our server, 'Christian' was superb. All of your 'wait-staff' are very professional and the entire experience was thoroughly enjoyable. I did notice that your 'background- music' is now aimed somewhat toward the 'trendy-crowd' but I know 'changes' have to be made to attract the younger customer - oh well, I am just growing old."

  • "The food was average at best. I know it was Thanksgiving and a buffet, but I expected a lot more for $50 per person. The staff wasn't very attentive, and we had dirty plates on our table for a while. Disappointing."

  • "The food and service was great. Would give 5 stars if it wasn't for the request they forgot I had when I made reservations."

  • "This restaurant is always busy, so booking is recommended. Even then, expect to wait for the table to be ready. We sat at the bar and studied the menu over a glass of wine. The staff are numerous and helpful. Even seats by the window only have a limited view of the sea because of the cars parked outside, which is a shame. Yet the food is excellent. Enjoy."

  • "We struck up a short conversation with our wonderful waitress as we noticed her accent. She was from Ukrania and was spending a few months here. What a wonderful opportunity for both her and the tourists (like us) who enjoy meeting others from far and wide. The restaurant never disappoints - the food was very tasty and the desserts were lovely. We had a view of the Gulf and enjoyed "people watching" and never felt rushed to leave. All in all, Gaido's remains one of our favorites when we visit Galveston. Thanks to all."

  • "My wife and I have go to Gaidos two or three times a year (we live outside Bryan/College station) but always on our anniversary. It has always been an all around great experience. Thie past week end we spent our anniversary in Galveston and of course went to Gaido's. David the bartender was exceptional. Our server Lis, from North Carolina, now a Texan, was wonderful. On our next stop there, we will wait extra time to get a table in her section. Again everything was outstanding and we met Mr. Gaido himself for the first time. Great guy and he treated us like old friends. Can't wait to go back later this summer!"

  • "Chris, our waiter was friendly and attentive. When we asked about the changes at the Pelican Club, he explained in detail about the new chef and menu. He arranged for a staff member of the Pelican Club to come to our table tell more about the new format. The seafood was prepared well and my wife's mojito was outstanding."

  • "I always bring my guests down to Galveston and we eat at Gaido's. It has charm, even for all of the traffic and movement of folks coming for a meal. The food is good -- not extraordinary, but good! The wait staff was quite attentive and prompt and they seem to enjoy working there! I had the Snapper special and enjoyed it. My guest had seared tuna. It was cooked just a bit too much -- she wanted it seared on the outside and nice and red on the inside. All the same, she was pleased with the dining experience. I had a bowl of gumbo. It had tomato in it which is not to my taste -- it just doesn't jive with my experience of gumbo in Louisiana. All the same, I imagine that there can be different recipes for gumbo all along our Gulf"

  • "Finest fresh seafood I have ever experienced. Service was friendly and knowledgable. The prices are high, but not compared to the quality. Remarkable dining. It's no accident that the restaurant has been around over 100 years."

  • "Gaido's is a Galveston institution that still serves up the finest Gulf food around in a very nice and cozy atmosphere with a great view."

  • "Reservation at 6:30 seated about 10 minutes later. At first, service was good, but when our food arrived, our waiter left promptly and it was about 5 minutes before I could flag down another waiter to tell him that what I got was not what I ordered. Waiter took it back. About 15 minutes later my correct entree was delivered. Never once did the manager come by my table to chat and the waiter was so so apologetic. I realize that mistakes happen but the least they could have done was comp us a dessert or glass of wine. I chased down the manager on our way out and told him I was not impressed with the service and he said he was "on his way over to speak to me now" I doubt it, it happened almost an hour ago. Not great service at all."

  • "It's reputation is based on the tourist trade and those with nostalgia for the 100-year-old family-owned restaurant. It meets those expectations and deserves its place in Galveston. But for quality, price and service, it will not meet the standards most customers will have for restaurants with entrees in the $25-35 price range. The ambience, menu presentations, and service are a bit tired and disappointing."
