A word from Gaido's Seafood Restaurant
The toast of the Texas coast.
How can frozen fish be called fresh? The answer for anyone with snap is simple: it can’t. That’s why Gaido’s is the classic choice for fresh Gulf seafood. Patrons know Gaido’s is real, when others are clearly not. From red snapper and blue crab to white tablecloths crumbed with panache, there’s no denying Gaido’s is one-of-a-kind in a world of imitation. Now, after four generations of filleting, frying, grilling and baking, Gaido’s has grown into the picture perfect place of traditions– birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, reunions. As the largest fresh fish house on the coast, Gaido’s can serve up to 2,500 happy diners a day. Plus, with the Pelican Club, private dining, catering, a new food truck and parking galore…it’s easy to see why Gaido’s -– for over 100 years – is truly the coastal classic.Continued

  • "We have dined here several times beginning with our honeymoon in 1971. We have returned to celebrate several anniversaries. We have never been disappointed with the food or service. From the hostess, waiter, and manager we received the most hospitable service and attention. The food was excellent, the atmosphere perfect!"

  • "We went here for or first anniversary. The food was great. Our serving staff was friendly and attentive. We mentioned it was our anniversary when our server asked if we wanted dessert. We declined but he insisted that we allow him to get us something, his treat. He returned with the best creme brulee I've ever had that said happy anniversary on the plate in raspberry glaze. We were blown away by this place. It became an instant tradition. We will be celebrating here every year."

  • "We ordered the Red Snapper fillets which were $31 each. For that price we expect quality. The fish was dry and rubbery, consistent with fillets that have been frozen. For $38 we can get a whole fresh snapper cooked for us in Houston and that feeds two. Ambience and service quality was 4/10. Despite being on the ocean front, they put a car park out front so forget about a nice view. We were hoping for a place with a bit of class, but the place is full of loud families who haven't bothered to change out of their beach gear."

  • "Nice restaurant located in great location on Seawall of Galveston. Worth the trip and the time to eat a really good meal. fresh seafood. Way Better than the many other national and regional restaurants. I'll go back and recommend this restaurant to my friends."

  • "I did not check to see if the planets and stars were aligned but on this day they certainly were at Gaido's. I am almost certain that the blackened red snapper was grilled to a level of perfection I have never experienced in any restaurant in any country. The fish was so fresh and tender it melted in my mouth and the Cajun spices were just perfect. The shrimp were similarly unbelievably fresh and delicious. The scallops, one of my favorite all-time seafoods was 10/10. The Snapper and shrimp were on a new scale for me at 15 out of my previous 10. I do not think I will ever forget this outrageously unexpected flavor burst and joy from seafood. And the service was spot on."

  • "Went for a birthday dinner for my father in law. Food was just ok. The Jazz Shrimp Cocktail was over sauced with mayo or whatever the sauce was. Most of the food was cold. I ordered scallops and was greatly disappointed in the size for the price. I did have the steak fries as my side and those too were disappointing. They were not hand cut in the kitchen, just poured from a frozen fry bag Im sure. The stuffed shrimp was disgusting. Small shrimp with a ton of stuffing and breading. The asparagus side was ok, nothing special. The Side of Parmesan tomatoes was a joke. 3 small slices topped with some parm and broiled . Really? That is considered a side? A birthday dessert was pre arranged and it did not happen. That was the end."

  • "Great food. Great atmosphere. If you're in the Houston area take a drive and eat here. The fried food is good, but the fresh catch selections are "to die for"! Beware, the Jumbo Baked potatoes are big enough for two. If you're in or near Galveston and don't eat here... You cheated yourself."

  • "We had reservations, but they seemed to be unsure about where to seat us. We waited 10-15 mins without being addressed from the waitstaff. By that time we had put our menus down and decided to leave. Once the waiter finally addressed us he said, "I guess I'm your waiter and it looks like you've decided." We left and went to the The Steakhouse at the San Luis Hotel. (Which was a great rebound restaurant) Gaido's may be a staple to Galveston, but doesn't seem to be adjusting with the times. Restaurant looked old inside and items on the menu looked average."

  • "The highlight was the lobser bisque. If I am ever in Galveston again, it will be a MUST to go back and have some more of this! The bread served at the beginning of the meal was also excellent. My husband raved about his fried shrimp, and I really enjoyed the blue crab and avocado appetizer. My only disappointment was the wedge salad; the iceberg was bitter for some reason. My young adult children tried crab for the first time and gave it 5 stars. The service was superb; water glasses constantly filled. Surprised at how dressy it was; the outside of the restaurant was deceivingly informal so we were underdressed, wear at least business casual and have the kids in polos/sundresses to fit in. Great tee shirts and sundries in the gift shop!"

  • "The food and service were great. We had a reservation and they were right on time. When we made our reservation it asked for additional comments. We told them that we were returning to the very place where a proposal was made to be married. This was 34 years ago. We told one of the managers why we were there and he was amazed. He said " This is a very special moment for each of you and we appreciate you returning for such a special event. I am going to do something veryspecial for you while you are here". We did not know what to expect. He passed our table numerous times and never again said a word. We paid our bill and left. Why would someone tell us that and not follow up on that? This is not characteristic for this restaurant."

  • "Throughout the years the wait staff did not have to take out a pad and write down the order. The food is always wonderful and my water glass was filled repeatedly."

  • "My boyfriend and I had dinner here while visiting for business. We had a reservation so we were seated as soon as we arrived. The staff was friendly and our waiter was phenomenal. He was very knowledgable and his recommendations were spot on. The food was amazing and dessert was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. Thanks for a wonderful dining experience."

  • "Reservation didn't seem to help with seating as people without reservations got in before us and about 1/2 of the tables were empty. Food OK but, not as good as remembered. Removal of Captains Dinner a real downer and perhaps they don't want the locals who know about the full dinners. We used to dine at Gaidos regularly and always brought out of towners there but, doubt that will continue. Also service not what was expected. Had to ask each time for water refill and waiter seemed to have too many tables to service promptly. Hope they rethink the Captains Dinner demise and staff accordingly. Oh, and the fire alarm went off while we were in the dining room and no directions provided. Luckily it was a false alarm."

  • "I love their food and prices are great too!! Not many places left like this one!! I get so tired of the chain restaurants that are everywhere. This place is worth the 120 mile drive for just hope they stay the same for many years to come."

  • "You just never can go wrong with the lobster bisque. Food outstanding as usual. A little hiccup at the beginning with the hostess forgetting about us after 10 min of us showing up for our reservation. When they come out to call you for your table they need to be a little more diligent though my party was sitting right next to the hostess stand. She apologized and got us seated within a few minutes later so all was not lost. Thank you for saving my birthday!"

  • "My wife and I have dined at Gaido's for almost 35 yrs. The service is excellent as is the atmosphere. However, this trip we were baffled by the limited selection on the menu and only one special of the day(not the Gaido's we are used to). The menu selection seems to be in line with the major seafood chains. Now, the food we ordered was very good. The service delivered was excellent. We will return but not for a formal occasion/dinner. I do recommend Gaido's for a "seafood" dinner."

  • "Been going here since I was a kid in the 60's, and it's still great. While the place and menu are fresh and up to date, this place still retains its old school charm. The snapper was excellent (broiled/butter) The shrimp cocktail was ice cold and delicious. Wife had the fried seafood platter- a lot of food and all of it very good. Great wine selection and lots of good desserts, too."

  • "The food was excellent ! There were four of us and all we could talk about was how delicious the food was. I ordered a Bloody Maria and was disappointed with the taste. I did not specify a brand of tequila which could have been my mistake but other than that it was wonderful."

  • "We don't get to Galveston often but when we do, Gaido's is on our list of "musts". Good, fresh, and reliable, it is a classic spot to revisit old-school dining that is so often lost nowadays. We always ask what is freshest that day and on our last visit we lucked out with a waiter who had spent several years in the kitchen and had just moved out to service. He recommended not only what he felt was the best choice for fresh fish that evening but also what he felt would be the best preparation and he was spot on with both of our entrees"

  • "NOT one thing to complain about, everything was perfect for our group. We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and they made it so special for us with the perfect service, etc. Thank you Gaido's."

  • "I've been going to Gaido's for over 50 years. My parents would take there while on vacation at the beach. While the food is as good as ever, the service is not as it was in say the 60's/70's. Waiters were clad in black & white and they saw to every detail. They were trained for up to 5 years before being allowed to serve in the main dining room. Now college aged young adults are the mainstay as waiters and while they do a good job, its just not as professional. All in all though its a great place for lunch or dinner and the food is the same today as the last time you went!"

  • "the freshest of fresh seafood and we had excellent service from two young Ukranian exchange students and Melody, our primary wait person. Used to go to Gaido's as a child and so am quite nostalgic about it. My only complaint is that my stuffed flounder (daily special) was not exceptional. The fish was fresh and delicious, but the stuffing (crawfish tails) was unusually bland. The breading mixture in the stuffing broke down and the tails seemed to have been frozen (not much flavor). The fresh bread is wonderful and the gumbo should not be missed. I would pass on the bisque, which is lobster stock based but has tiny shrimp as the main ingredient (also seemed to be frozen shrimp.) Still, I will always go back!"

  • "I was very impressed with the food and service at Gaido's. Definitely, not a cheap place to eat. However, all eight of us enjoyed our food. We will eat there again next summer. This is the first Galveston restaurant on the main strip that I have been totally satisfied with menu options, quality of food and service."

  • "This restraunt is overpriced for subpar food. There are MUCH better places to eat in Galveston, that are much more reasonable priced. We ordered drinks and to say that they were watered down would be an underestimate. One dish ordered wasn't even worth eating. The "blackened" fish was a laughable blackened, not even close to being blackened, however really the only thing on the table that was edible. Please do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. The only bright spot to this place was the wait staff, they did try very hard."

  • "Thank goodness we got to the restaurant a little early. The hostess could not find our reservation.Either the hostess did not know how to read the reservation list or Open windows does not work with Guidos. Will never trust OpenTable again. Best to call the restaurant to verify the reservation or call the restaurant directly. Guidos uses OpenTable on their website. Do not know who to blame."
