A word from Gaido's Seafood Restaurant
The toast of the Texas coast.
How can frozen fish be called fresh? The answer for anyone with snap is simple: it can’t. That’s why Gaido’s is the classic choice for fresh Gulf seafood. Patrons know Gaido’s is real, when others are clearly not. From red snapper and blue crab to white tablecloths crumbed with panache, there’s no denying Gaido’s is one-of-a-kind in a world of imitation. Now, after four generations of filleting, frying, grilling and baking, Gaido’s has grown into the picture perfect place of traditions– birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, reunions. As the largest fresh fish house on the coast, Gaido’s can serve up to 2,500 happy diners a day. Plus, with the Pelican Club, private dining, catering, a new food truck and parking galore…it’s easy to see why Gaido’s -– for over 100 years – is truly the coastal classic.Continued

  • "Gaidos is absolutely AMAZING. The baked oysters out of this world good! I loved my Mahi Mahi with the nick topping, and the mac and cheese is sooo good!!! We used to go to fisherman's wharf, but went to Gaidos for the 1st time and was blown away with how great it was. In the Last 5 years of coming to galveston we have truly been missing out! This is my new #1!"

  • "A trip to Gaido's has been in my wife's family for years. We are the one's now carrying on the tradition. After slipping a bit for awhile, it appears Gaido's is back. After a rocky start with our table (fan above blowing at full speed), it was taken care of and the service was exceptional. Our red snapper was fresh and prepared to our specifications. The pecan ball for desert was worth the trip. We will continue on carrying out the tradition."

  • "This has to be the freshest seafood in Galveston and they have numerous preparation options to choose from. I ordered the pecan crusted Mahi Mahi topped with crab meat in a hollandaisse sauce. It was definitely the best fish I have ever ordered from a restaurant!"

  • "Overall the food was great. They did over cook my steak but it was tender and the lump crab topping was great. The service was less than desirable but it was still a nice evening with my fiancé. The restaurant did honor our request of a window seat and picked our desert for our anniversary....peacan crunch is one of a kind tasty!"

  • "Excellent appetizers. Golden tile fish Michael's style was outstanding. The rice and asparagus were perfect. It could have been an outstanding experience. BUT, 2 1/2 hours to make this happen was disappointing. Our server was excellent but she had no support staff and was overwhelmed with extremely large groups seated in her section. Our plates were never cleared. Management needs to step it up or shutter a fine Galveston tradition."

  • "The dining experience was good but not outstanding. They were very accommodating to seat us early since we arrived about 20 minutes before our reservation time. I would definitely recommend reservations. Service was satisfactory, but our server did not give us accurate description of our meal. This resulted in us ordering a side dish that we did not need to complete our meal. Food was ample and tasty. "

  • " Gaido's has been in Glaveston over one hundred years and is the go to place for seafood in Galveston. I have been going there for many years. They have refreshed their menu and the food choices are excellent and the food is very good. Highly recommend reservations especially on the weekends. "

  • "Loved every single bite! It was some of the best food I have had in a while....and can't wait to go back! Really enjoyed the Goat Cheese Beignets. They were perfect combination of goat cheese and beignet. They melted in my mouth. If you like blue cheese, the Blue Cheese Grits were divine. I also had the bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp...which was the best I have EVER had...even thinking about them makes my mouth water. I had leftovers which were just as fabulous the next day. Our waitress was attentive and made sure we had a great dinner. THANK YOU GAIDOS! "

  • "Our waitress Melody was the best. Gave us a little history of the restaurant and told us about the entrees. "

  • "They know their way around a fried oyster for sure. We split the stuffed flounder and it was tasty (maybe a little too much cracker stuffing). A friend had potatoes au gratin which were yummy. The grilled scallops were a it dry. Very good asparagus. Hard to park in their front lot which takes away from the Gulf view. Also it's odd that we came early for the reservation and still had to wait about 8 minutes for seating. "

  • "Thank you Gaido's for making our 50 year Anniversary special! The food was wonderful, the service was great thanks to Jared!"

  • "We were really looking forward to eating at Gaido's on our recent trip to Galveston, and are sad to report it is not keeping up with the other good restaurants that have opened. We sat at the bar to catch the Astros game, so we can't comment on the dining room service. The young woman working behind the bar was very nice, but knows nothing about working in a restaurant. The red snapper was wonderful, but the shrimp cocktail was very small and nearly frozen (we are in Galveston, not Oklahoma!!), the caesar's salad had obviously been sitting out for quite a while, and the sides with the fish were barely warm. We sadly are taking this one off our list."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner at Gaido's all from the reservation to the check. The service was impeccable, and the food out of this world! The salmon was delicious, and the snapper meuniere was one of the best I have ever had! Sadly there was no space left for dessert, thuogh the creme brulee was calling for me. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Every time I visit this restaurant I have a good experience. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, the food is excellent, and the atmosphere is relaxing. And if you have a table next to a window, you have a nice view of the sea wall. This is a great place to take a date or a group of great friends."

  • "The food was up to its usual high standard. Service was not terrible but certainly not up to Gaido's usual standards: I had to ask twice for my tea, we had to ask twice about an item on the menu, out entrees were brought before we had finished our salads and we had to tell the wait staff to not take our salads yet. You expect this type of stuff to happen at Denny's or the Pappa's chains. Not at Gaido's. I had to apologize to my guests visiting from Rhode Island when we left. I've never had to apologize for anything at Gaido's before. Maybe it was just an off night."

  • "We were very pleased with our red snapper ordered by all four of us but prepared differently. Our waiter, Christian, was very knowledgable and patient. We were offered a wine sample to help us decide what to order."

  • "Whenever we are in the Galveston area, visiting Gaido's is a must. We always start off with the gumbo. Then my husband has the stuffed shrimp with the parmesan tomatoes and I have the snapper, grilled with the parmesan tomatoes. The fish was cooked perfectly. The portions are large. We both took some of our entree home to have the next day. The service was excellent, too. I want to mention that for the first time in my life, I walked in jeans because we had just driven in from Austin. I was concerned that might make a difference in the service we received, but it did not. I also want to recommend that you make reservations. This was not possible until a few years ago and now it is offered through Open Table and I highly recommend it."

  • "Sorry to learn that the "Complete Meal" is gone. Complete meal included soup or salad and dessert. So everything is ala cart now, so plan on $40 per person minimum out the door. The food was wonderful, as always. I had the Watkin's Bisque and Cy's Demise (Flame grilled Oysters on the halfshell). My wife had the Shrimp Peggies, very good as always. Server was knowledgeable and friendly. Visited on March 17, 2014."

  • "First I think its only fair for me to disclose that I am a Galvestonian and have been going to Gaido's as long as I can remember. Actually, Gaido's is the reason I love seafood so much and the whole reason I love red snapper and oysters. I brought my kids with me this time and now they are both bonafide seafood lovers too - even tasting oysters for the first time. This time, the food was every bit as good as I remember and we had wonderful service with Ruth. She took excellent care of us and was very attenttive. I highly recommend Gaidos and Rith! I do reccommend reservations during high season - actually all the time. There is always something going on in Galbeston and Gaido's ia a favorite for everyone!"

  • "We've eaten at Gaido's for years when we visit Galveston. We were a little disappointed with this visit. The food wasn't as good and service was slow. We waited for 15 min. with a reservation and the restaurant didn't seem that busy. The bread was highlight of meal. It was delicious!"

  • "I brought my 5 & 7 yr old here for a special dinner, everything was good and they were so well behaved that I promised them each a special dessert. After our meal our server never came back to check on us or even ask us if we wanted dessert. He finally stopped chatting up the larger table for 1 minute and said dessert ladies and at that point I said no thank you its late and I don't feel like sitting here for another 45 minutes to get it. I asked for my check and he brought it to us and said sorry about that I gave you your iced tea for free. Thanks. I ended up leaving and taking my girls for an ice cream cone elsewhere. Over all it started out great but didn't last."

  • "We have been going to Gaidos since the early 70's. After all our visits, we were very disappointed this week to find out that they have discontinued the three course menu option, which is just perfect for someone who wants a half portion or wants to sample more items. Although the homemade dressings and Watkins bisque are still as good as ever, the menu changes may make us rethink our next visit."

  • "Quite possibly the most spectacular seafood my fiancé and I have had in a good, long while! Friendly, attentive service. Warm, welcoming atmosphere. Dining room was nothing fancy, and after hearing such raves about it's exquisite cuisine, I was a little surprised to see so many families in casual clothing. Fine dining food meets family friendly atmosphere."

  • "I have been to Gaidos on many occasions and it had always been good. This time the food was lack luster and luke warm. However, our server was excellent. I doubt I will be returning. There are many other places on the island that are much better."

  • "Brought a friend to Gaido's -- after telling him about the legendary food that I have had there in past years. The food was disappointing -- to say the least. We each had the Michael preparation -- he with catfish and mine was snapper. I've had this several times in the past with wonderful results. We each had the same reaction -- that the fish was ok, but hardly something to be excited about. Hoping that the restaurant can turn this around! I'll try one more time, but I'll never be able to get this particular friend to go again."

  • "we had a nice quiet evening with friends of ours that were in for the weekend for Mardi Gras. It was a Monday night and weather was awful, cold & damp, but still enjoyed ourselves and had a great meal. Thank you for the great service."

  • "My husband and I have been dining here for many years, and it's still a special treat for us. In fact, we drive 4 hours just to eat at Gaido's every oyster season. Our favorite is the baked oyster platter, but everything else we've tried has been delicious. I love the old-fashioned fine dining atmosphere, the knowledgeable waitstaff, and the view of the Gulf. But it's really all about the food. We've eaten at many good restaurants all along the Gulf Coast, and Gaido's ranks in the top three."

  • "The food was great here. But the smell is horrible. It smells like a cross between must and something sour/rotten. It permeates from the entrance to the dining area. They may need to replace the carpet, but the smell is really bad. I almost walked out before I ate."
