Gaido's Seafood RestaurantWe Love Gaido's!Every time we come to Galveston, we absolutely have to go to Gaido's. It is the best restaurant in town, and the food is phenomenal. It has a great view of the ocean, and did I mention to food is amazing? If we could afford to go every night, we would, but it is a little pricey. We usually go on the first or the last night of our trip to make it special. I wouldn't normally say a restaurant like this is kid friendly, but honestly it is. We have a 2 year old and the staff were all very sweet to him. There were actually quite a bit of children there. Make reservations because it gets very busy at night. Already looking forward to going back!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMStill Galveston's standard.Gaido's is still the standard by which to compare other restaurants. Still, it has fallen off its throne a little when comparing Gaidos to the time period when the father of the current owner managed it.
Their signature dish will always be the red snapper. The remoulade sauce while still good is not what it once was. Steaks are well cooked but not on par with the better steakhouses. But, that is not a fair comparison because this is a seafood restaurant.
Wines by the bottle are roughly twice the retail price.
This review is based on having eaten at Gaido's since 1973.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLove their Shrimp Bisque!Never a disappointment. I've been to Gaido's many times and, like prior visits, enjoyed myself. There waitstaff is impeccable. During this visit we were served by a very handsome exchange student from Romania working for the summer. He was as amazing as any other waiter they've ever had provide service at this location. And, the food is consistently great! Nobody makes shrimp bisque or shrimp salad like Gaido's.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome mealThey always have the freshest catch. Thais evening they had Tile fish as a special catch. Per waiters suggestion I gave it a try. Delicate and melt in your mouth good! Can't tempt my wife away from the Gulf Fried Shrimp, perfect as always.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday,s at Gaido'sI have taken two people to your fabulous restaurant for their birthday, and everyone has enjoyed the elegant yet casual atmosphere. The food is amazingly well prepared and delicious, and my service has always been great.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is FantasticAs always, the meal was outstanding; sadly, the waiter was not. That said, Gaido's is only place I'll dine when on Galveston Island.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Food, Super Service butBut....don't go dressed up expecting to be with a bunch of folks also dressed up! We forgot we were in a beach town, dressed for nice dinner out and no one else got the memo!! Other than that, cocktails were right on the mark, seafood was fresh, nicely seasoned, portions were large and made for great doggie-bags! Their top award-winning pecan pie was probably the best I have ever had! And if you plan on going in shorts, not go planning on paying 'shorts and flip-flop' prices...it's still a 'nice' restaurant where $ count!!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGaido's still shines100 y.o., large restaurant that isn't resting on its past glory.
Very good seafood prepared properly, Asparagus was cooked perfectly.
Wine list had reasonably priced selections.
Well organized, efficient staff.
Wonderful experience.
When I saw the size of the place and how busy it was I wasn't expecting the quality of the food that presented itself.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSo GoodEverything was fantastic. The service was great. I on the other hand have been here since 2005 and any chance I get to go to the wall I always try to stop here. Food is great same ad atmosphere.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great mealTried the golden tile with a blackened preparation and it was great as expected.
Would like to see Gaido's bring back the Sonora Salad. It was so good and I wish they still offered it.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat night and great food.My family enjoyed the food however there were some mixed up order. However everything was made good.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food Great ViewGreat selection of seafood with excellent service. Ask to get a table by the window for a view of the Gulf.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding DiningGaido's dining experience is one you don't want to miss! The seafood is especially good, and everything is fresh. The staff and management work very hard to ensure your meal is perfect. The restaurant is across the street from the bay, which provides a really nice view. The finger-bowl at the end of the meal is a special touch. I highly recommend Gaidos to anyone who would like to have a special evening with family or friends.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat RestaurantWe come and visit Galveston every year, and Gaido's is always on our agenda. Year after year they provide outstanding food and incredible service. We have never been disappointed with a meal at Gaido's. It's the best restaurant on the island and is always a special occasion for us.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic! The Snapper and Mahi Mahi were absolutely fantastic!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperbSeriously, the food here was really good. I had the grilled shrimp and for appetizer we had lump crab over avocado. I can't speak for the other seafood restaurants in Galveston but we truly enjoyed this food. My wife had a red snapper that was like butter and my gulf shrimp were delicious over rice. A little pricey but you get what you pay for. I would recommend.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMSeafood treasure! We were looking for an awesome seafood restaurant and found it in Gaidos! The stuffed shrimp was excellent melt in your mouth perfection! The bacon wrapped shrimp was to die for! We loved the creamed spinach with a bit of bacon and artichoke blended in.
The wait staff were on the spot with all requests. Kudos to you Gaidos!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways very nice. DestinationAlways very nice. Destination spot for those we love and want to share with. Thanks again for usual excellence!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best fine dining optionsWe went out to celebrate my wife's birthday. After having much deliberation between choosing Gaidos vs. Rudy and Pacos we decided on Gaidos because wanted a plain seafood restaurant. Gaidos meat our expectations: we were promptly seated (reservation was made in advance), the waiter was knowledgeable of dining choices and was very helpful. The food was great. Shrimp, scallops and snapper combo was delicious. They offer various preparations you can chose from, so choices are rich and not boring at all. Golden tile was absolutely fresh and juicy. Must have pecan pie, it devine. We will definitely dine here again.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service! ScallopsExcellent service! Scallops and chocolate brownies were delicious!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous! In an era of bland chain restaurants, Gaido's is an old-school treasure. Fresh, well-prepared food, with the emphasis on local seafood. The atmosphere and service of a slower-paced, more gracious era. We eat dinner at Gaido's every time we visit Galveston. The entree prices are comparable with upper-tier chain restaurants, so some items are a splurge, but the food at Gaido's is sooooo much better.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Mother's Day ExperienceMy dad and I took my mom here on Sunday for Mother's Day and it was absolutely just fabulous. We had a great time, the service was the best I ever experienced, and the food was so fresh. We will definitely be going back for other occasions.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day feastWe had a very pleasant lunch and our service was wonderful!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGiado's provided an atomosphereGiado's provided an atomosphere that reflected it's outdoor surroundings. It was laid back and relaxing. The food was excellent, as was the wait staff.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Gaido ExperienceFor lunch or dinner and a true dining experience Giado's is the place! It is an oasis of fine dining, quiet atmosphere, expertly prepared drinks and stellar service in the middle of a bustling seawall.
Gaido's is not your fast food venue. Quality, not quantity is their mantra!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been going to Gaido’sI have been going to Gaido’s since I was a child and now I take my child/family there. Great place to go!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat, as always!Fresh fish, wonderful crab, fantastic drinks. Who could ask for more?5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOur family went to Gaido'sOur family went to Gaido's for lunch after my daughter's college graduation. We had a group of 14 and they were able to accomodate us just fine. The restaurant is lovely and I was pleased to find that is was quiet enough for us to converse without shouting at each other. The service was a little slow, but that was probably due to the large number of people in our party, which included 2 small children. I had to ask for bread and water refills, but otherwise the service was good. The entire staff was gracious and everything was delicious! We ordered a wide varety of food, from salads to seafoof platters. I think everyone was satisfied. I would definitely recommend Gaido's for a special occasion!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBest all aroundThe service, food and martini's were all excellent.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGaido's is great!Great food and great service every time! Wonderful atmosphere. Love being able to look out at the bay scene while dining. It was worth the drive from north of Houston to go to Galveston for lunch. I look forward to going back again.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful dinner! We had a wonderful dinner! The snapper was outstanding and our server, Melody, gave us excellent service. I highly recommend this restaurant.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMLocal treasureThis local treasure, now 100 years old, always offers a great menu and the freshest seafood anywhere. Oysters on the halfshell were delicious, and the crabmeat cheesecake was an unexpected, unique taste. All the food was fabulous, and the service was great. Don't miss Gaido's when you're in Galveston.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't go wrong with Gaido'sBeen coming to Gaidos for 25 years (and my wife's family longer than that). You can't go to Galveston without stopping at Gaido's for dinner. Always great food and great service.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat foodWe loved this place so much that we ate here both nights that we were in town4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe legend is alive and goingThe legend is alive and going strong! This iconic Galveston restaurant continues to impress with the freshest in season seafood available. Their menu has been updated to reflect what is in season so it changes throughout the year. This visit was oyster season and the oyster specials were fantastic. Fried oysters, baked oysters, oysters on the half shell, and specialty oysters, they were all delicious. The servers were enthusiastic about the food and the restaurant and it showed. It is time to go to Gaido's again.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat afternoon lunch forGreat afternoon lunch for my wife's 60th birthday celebration with our children and grandchildren. Food choices available to suit everyone's desires. Service was excellent.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMdependably goodTimothy our server was excellent, but he oversold the pecan pie which was good but not the best in Texas. Our snapper was great but the mikal sauce lacked. I've had better shrimp & lobster bisque. While the experience was not outstanding, it is a Galveston staple and dependably good.,4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMI had a wonderful experienceI had a wonderful experience I had a awesome waiter who was very knowledgable about the menu and the history of the restaurant. Awesome experience for special occasions.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place has been aroundThis place has been around for a long time and is very busy on the weekend. I would recommend making a reservation in advance. We noticed a couple just getting seated that were waiting before we got there. They were just getting seated as we finished our meal. The wait is probably worth it, the service was great and the food was pretty good.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe seafood was deliciousThe seafood was delicious as always! We used our $20 Open Table Reward check that we earned over the last year at Gaido's. Our server, Michael, was wonderful!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have eaten at Gaido's aWe have eaten at Gaido's a number of times and have always been pleased with the service and quality of the food. Unfortunately our latest experience did not go as well. Our waiter did not get one of our food orders and a dessert order correct. Not a big deal, but not up to the standard of service we have come to expect. We drive about 60 miles one way to dine here so our minor disappointment is understandable.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGaido's has been a familyGaido's has been a family favorite of ours for years. Being BOI's we will continue to visit Gaido's often. So glad they are now taking reservations after years of a wait list. The food as well as the service is always top notch!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMStill great after 100+ years.Food was superb. Service from Pascal was exceptional.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat SeafoodOn any trip to Galveston we make time to dine at Gaido's. Love the fresh seafood and the hospitality.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMHistoric GemStill an institution in Galveston. Worth sampling. Many restaurants now duplicate the seafood menu but they have a special method of combining various seasonings, skillet preparations and side dishes to match up with any diner's preferences. Wait service is attentive and still has feel of the 50's.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMA Galveston landmark, shouldA Galveston landmark, should be tried at least once. The service was spotty, sometimes very attentive, sometimes long periods of waiting for service to return with requested items. We weren't asked if we wanted to order drinks, requiring us to specifically state we wanted to order something from the bar. Appetizers arrived ahead of the drinks, and barely ahead of our dinner order. The food was very good and priced about where you would expect for a high-end seafood restaurant. One drink was somewhat watery, but price was only $6. A gin martini was priced at $12 (unknown until we received the check)because it was considered a "double shot," something I'd not encountered before. Definitely get a reservation or you might have a long wait.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFor the last 7 years GaidosFor the last 7 years Gaidos has been our families favorite restaurant when visiting Galveston. We have celebrated many special occasions with extended family. Great for families with kids.
Highly recommend to all those travelling thru Galveston and want a good Sea Food Restaurant, a bit pricey but excellent and fresh food.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time at Gaido's in aboutFirst time at Gaido's in about 10 years. Interior and bar had been redecorated and renovated. Everything was sparkling clean. We were waiting for friends so decided to have a drink at the bar. Bartender was prompt to take our order and to deliver our drinks. After receiving our drinks which were very good, the bartender began to try to sell us a cookbook, seasonings and spices, etc. This was not expected nor was it acceptable. Gaido's is not exactly a low dollar dining experience and we did not appreciate the blatant merchandising.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
