Diner Reviews
  • "This little gem in the S. Pearl corridor never disappoints. We lucked out on a busy Friday evening and snagged a reservation with a table outside. The service in this place is consistently great We shared a delicious spinach salad and I had the trout and my love enjoyed the stuffed poblano. Both were perfectly prepared and memorable entrees. There is something about the atmosphere at this unassuming spot that keeps bringing us back. If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out!"

  • "It's a converted house on Pearl Street, I had the chicken breast and my wife had the lamb and both rivaled any of the known hot spots as well as the prices are very reasonable. Wine list is short but well chosen which I prefer anyway. As a former sever from a white table cloth standard, this is a meal that I will have again. This is a restaurant that is worth going to, do your self a favor and enjoy what Gaia has to offer."

  • "Delicious simple fresh food well prepared. You could taste every nuance the chef was going for. "

  • "We tried this restaurant for the first time during last week's rainstorm and was pleasantly surprised. The place is small and the service attentive. Lovely salmon. Only nitpick is the wine list is small."

  • "Food awesome, service excellent. Exceeded expectations in every way. Ask to sit outside. Look forward to returning and recommending Gaia to others. "

  • "Gaia is the Greek goddess, which personifies the Earth itself. This restaurant personifies it's name. Organic and gluten free items are available on their varied menu. My two friends had the crab cakes with red pepper coulis that they claimed were spectacular. I had the ancho and walnut crusted warm goat cheese salad with apples tossed in balsamic honey vinaigrette & herb croutons that was fresh, satisfying, and beautifully presented. They offer fresh-baked bread as soon as you are seated which was airy with a crunchy crust. This is "small portion cuisine", so don't expect the food to be falling off the plate, but you won't have that "stuffed" feeling when you leave, either - or a doggie bag! Excellent wine list. Good romantic setting."

  • "From farm-to-table to low key environment, Gaia was a nice Friday night "getaway" from the traffic and fast pace of city life. The dinner menu offered nice variety with some unique things we hadn't tried before. Service was friendly. We like the intimate setting. A good find. We'd definitely like to try the breakfasts & lunches."

  • "Sometimes you hesitate to share a special restaurant once you find it, especially when it is small and quaint. Trip Advisor highlights this as a great brunch and lunch restaurant, but it has been preparing terrific French-inspired dinners as well. Despite not being numerous, the menu gives an amazingly diverse array of choices. Also, prices and service are great. The spinach salad with figs, almonds, etc. plus added seared duck breast ($17) was very delightful and satisfying. Other family members raved over the chicken penne pasta with roasted tomatoes, mushrooms and parmesan ($15) and seared sirloin, mashed potatoes and candy carrots ($19). Next time I want to try the lamb chop or stuffed poblano (OK, not all French-inspired). :-)"

  • "I love the feel of this place. It takes me back to my college days. But the food is a little overpriced and over salted. I came for dinner and I think the place us much better at breakfast and lunch. I will be back to try again but not for dinner."

  • "Great food and service in an adorable house with only a few tables makes this place truly amazing!"

  • "Don't let the unassuming decor mislead you. The food is outstanding. Prepared with expertise, but not over fussy. Wine list is small but well chosen and very reasonable. A really nice experience. There was a large group that was a bit noisy, but easily forgiven, since the place is small."

  • "Very quiet on a weeknight, as such I think they keep their staff level low. Wasn't too much of an issue, but glasses did stay empty longer than necessary. Food is amazing though and prices reasonable."

  • "My friend and I had a great experience at Gaia Bistro! I had never tried mussels and I am glad that I had my first taste here!"

  • "This place has a country cottage feel to it, even though it's in the middle of the city. You almost feel like you are in Europe at a bed and breakfast. But, the best part of this place was the food. It was a gourmet meal from start to finish. We started with the cheese plate-- a must have! We shared the strawberry spinach salad, which was nothing short of artistic both in presentation and taste. For dinner, I had the shrimp wrapped in bacon with polenta cakes-- absolutely delicious. My boyfriend had the salmon and it was amazing. At a place like this, you just can't skip dessert. We had the strawberry and almond bread pudding with creme anglais. It was the best dessert Iv'e ever had!"

  • "Enjoyable dining experience in a quaint outdoor setting. Food was good and the service was outstanding. We had a waitress who was effervescent and willing to help. We would have liked to have seen more menu options, even though the presentations were excellent."

  • "One of our favorite neighborhood restaurants for lunch, has instantly become a favorite for dinner. There were several decisions for dinner but we decided on the pork loin and bacon wrapped shrimp. Delicious! And though we saw plates of our other choices go out to other tables, we were more than happy with our meals - we kept stealing food from each other's plate. We'll be going back to try more from their menu. The service, as always, is attentive and friendly, but never intrusive. The price point is right for our meal, with an app, two entres and two glass of wine each - $100 including tip. Highly, highly recommend. Their lunch is equally rewarding!"

  • "We had an excellent experience! The cheese & jalapeño jam app was very good. The bacon-wrapped shrimp on polenta was worthy of every bite. The greatest part of the night was the service. Our server was as good as it gets ... couldn't be nicer and more prompt. She was wonderful. We highly recommend Gaia Bistro and can't wait to experience the patio in the summer."

  • "Perhaps the patio is a draw in warm weather but the food was mediocre and unimaginative with the exception of a couple of the appetizers. Our waitress was superbly attentive and competent."

  • "cozy atmosphere. great patio dining in good weather. not for groups. could have a better wine list if not going to have full bar."

  • "My daughter and I went for what we expected to be a nice supper because she had had an outstanding brunch here with friends. It was fantastic! We felt like honored guests in someone's lovely home. Atmosphere is homey and comfortable on old south Pearl pumpkin soup was amazing. Stuffed salmon unusual and so tasty. Turkey pot pie was fantastic on a chilly winter evening. Wine list was not extensive, but good and extremely reasonable. Our server Kevin was a delight we just loved this place and will be back."

  • "Always delicious. The dinner menu is surprisingly affordable. Crepes are the best in town. In house smoked ham and salmon are definitely a must try! Never have been disappointed by any meal..breakfast, brunch or dinner. The Chorizo mushroom caps are one of my favorite appetizers..."

  • "We went on a quiet, cold night, only 5 tables were occupied. Nice evening all around; service was attentive but not hovering. Chorizo mushroom caps were perfect and delicious - just the right spice. Appetizer quesadillas were entree sized portion and very tasty. We also had the spiced goat cheese salad. The waitress was very accommodating and poured a half glass of wine for me. Sorry they were out of the pumpkin ravioli as we heard it was wonderful too. We will be back!"

  • "we have been here a few times for brunch and love it. We were looking for somewhere nice to eat for dinner last week, but wanted to stay close by so decided to try Gaia. It was DELICIOUS. Everyone in our group loved what they ordered: chorizo stuffed mushrooms, stuffed poblano pepper, sheppard's pie with lamb and butteernut squash, chicken pot pie with a sage biscuit, shrimp etoufee...I could go on and on!"

  • "We had been told about Gaia's brunch and decided to try for dinner (told by server that dinner only served for past year). It was great. Food was good and fair prices so it resulted in good value. I would definitely recommend."

  • "This is an intimate place to share a wonderful meal with someone special. The aroma from the kitchen welcomes you as soon as you enter Gaia. Our late-night meal was enjoyed in the "front room" of this small converted home where we watched the snow fall lightly on this South Pearl Street neighborhood. The food was creative, delicious and satisfying - definitely try the Stuffed Salmon! We were enticed to linger with dessert and coffee afterwards as the wintery scene outside unfolded. Our server, Elena, was fantastic and very engaging. This our first visit to Gaia Bistro was quite memorable and definitely not our last."

  • "I love the size and feel of this restaurant in the evening. It's small & intimate, warm & friendly. Possible to get a really good meal AND hear yourself think/carry on a conversation."

  • "This was my first time to visit Gaia Bistro. It was a night to celebrate the one year anniversary with the girlfriend. Gaia was ready to seat us as soon as we arrived. Our server was very friendly and attentive, not rushing anything, but letting us enjoy the evening. Hats off to the chef! What a great meal! To start, panko crusted egg plant with a healthy dose of goat cheese, then on to stuffed salmon with crab and scallops and some beef short ribs on tasty mashed potatoes. Everything was wonderful. I would definitely recommend."

  • "Gaia is a wonderful place for a nice night out. We were taken care of by a wonderful staff. The wine list was delightful and Jon, Gaia's owner was more than happy to explain each wine and help us choose the perfect match. I enjoyed the shrimp perfectly cooked in a slightly spicy creole sauce served over fragrant tender rice. My husband enjoyed the pablano stuffed with moist flavorful chicken topped with a wonderful chili sauce and black beans. I highly recommend Gaia for anyone looking for exceptional service, delicious food with out any pretentiousness."

  • "This restaurant is just ok... nothing special. There was only one person waiting tables and it looked like only one person in the kitchen. As a result, the service was slow. I think it was a surprise to them that there were 6 or so tables to deal with. It was a week night. The food was ok, once again nothing spectacular. It wasn't bad by any means but I just didn't love it."

  • "The food was fantastic! We were assaulted by mosquitos, but the staff already had citronella candles set up, and were understanding when we decided we needed to leave promptly. Great spot!"

  • "The food was good but nothing outstanding. The pumpkin ravioli didn't have a good flavor. We expected to be a little sweet, but instead it was kinda bland. My side salad was wilted. What also made this experience less than desirable was that we dined there when the temperature outside was about 100 degrees. We decided to sit inside because we thought it would be cooler but we were wrong. There is no A/C and no fans to help cool you down. It was a miserable evening."

  • "The decor sparse, the service a tad stiff, and though Gaia takes it self a little too seriously, the food wins the game."

  • "Everything was lovely for a quaint eight year anniversary. It was raining so we had to skip the patio. We were greeted with a few lovely slices of sourdough and butter. Our bottle of wine was fantastic. Server was sweet and helpful but not hovering. Portobello chips were flavorful, but too much salt. Same with the salmon. The reason food got 2 stars was the overuse of salt and the shrimp in the étouffée was gummy and way overlooked. I'll try again for lunch but the dinner has some work to do."
