Housed in the historic North Denver Highlands Gaetano"s was originally opened in the 1930's by the Smaldone family. Today it is an homage to the classic cocktail era with leisurely lunches, rustic and fresh Italian food and a late night neighborhood gathering.

Diner Reviews
  • "Great restaurant to have in the neighborhood! The food and drinks were great (I loved the eggplant parmigiana!) staff was very pleasant and helpful. The noise level was a little loud, we had lean in to hear each other across the table at times. But in general, just a great place to go for a meal with friends or family!"

  • "What a great find this place was for me. Been there forever but I was not aware of it. Stopped in and fell in love with it. Amazing food, fantastic atmosphere and Miles the bartender all made the dining experience second to none."

  • "And nothing like the old days. Food was very mediocre. Lumpy risotto , stale , tasteless bread, clueless waitress . We have given this red sauce joint one too many tries . Wheres`s the real Italian food ?"

  • "My husband and I visited for the first time on a Saturday night for our date night. Larry and the staff were so incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the local history. We loved the food (try the mussels), the ambiance, and everything about the place. I've already invited all of my big Italian family to meet us there in the future. So we'll be seeing you and I cannot wait!"

  • "We stopped here for the first time prior to going to a play. The food is great, but really nice we're the cocktails. A good, new and fresh variety. Definitely will return."

  • "Met a date at Gaetano's and the ambience is great. It's old school Denver meets Highlands. The service was great, they brought us several wine samples before we settled on a bottle. Food was good and my date was a vegetarian and she found several options. Overall, fun experience. I'll be back!"

  • "Remodeled "old world" charm. Food prepared and presented to please. Wine list is good, especially if you like Italian wines. Service was excellent, attentive but not not bothersome. Hostess, bartenders and food servers were friendly, and helpful! The minestrone is some of the best in Denver."

  • "We found the food a little bland and not that great I would not recommend this place"

  • "We love taking guests to Gaetano's. They do "old school" Italian food like no other restaurant in Denver. Service is attentive, drinks are classic."

  • "Approaching the restaurant I thought why am I dining here. Neighborhood leaves something to be desired. But I loved the indoor atmosphere of this place. Felt like we were back in old time Denver. The service was outstanding. Our waiter was very attentive without being in our faces. The Italian food was delicious. Minestrone soup excellent. But don't leave without trying the desserts. The tiramisu was to die for. Raspberry chocolate cake was moist and delicious. All 6 of us felt we would definitely be back."

  • "We arrived at Gaetanos to find that Open Table had not reserved us a table despite having sent us a conformation E Mail. The management tried to accommodate us but were full. They ended up putting us in the covered patio space in a snowstorm. There were heaters but there was also a very cold draft coming up from the floor. Fortunately the Cocktails from the bar were inventive and first rate, and the food was delicious. The service was wonderful as the staff made sure to do the best they could to make sure we had a good experience. They even sent the entertainment out to our table so we would feel included. We would recommend this restaurant and will come again!"

  • "We hadn't been to Gaetano's since before it was remodeled. The food now is vastly improved. The setting is old time fun. The service wasn't very attentive though."

  • "It may not have the notoriety it used too, but the food is good, the Frank Sinatra singer on Friday nights is great, and the overall experience is fun."

  • "After reading some of the great reviews, I was disappointed in this place. We arrived and the place was not busy, yet we waited for several minutes while the host spoke with someone on the phone. Once seated we waited a good five minutes before being acknowledged by anyone. I ordered the Clams Aglio e Olio with gluten free pasta and my date the chicken parm. When the food arrived, the waiter spilled clam sauce all over my date's leg. He apologized and offered soda water to help clean it up. Overall the food, the service, and the ambiance were average. With all the Italian places out there, I'd be hard pressed to ever visit this place again."

  • "We had a 6:15pm reservation and got there a little early and got seated right away. It had been a few years since I had been there before and the remodel was refreshing but still kept that old world charm that makes Gaetano's great. We were a party of 4 and were greeted right away by our server. The food was excellent and the service was fantastic. Ron, the new manager, stopped by our table and gave my daughter and her boyfriend a little history lesson about Gaetano's and its mobster past. We had a great meal and I would highly recommend Gaetano's for anyone who is looking for an authentic Italian experience away from the chains that are in downtown."

  • "If you are looking for a wonderful place to eat in Denver this gem set in in the Highlands is a sure fire bet. There is a small menu but everything on it I have had is wonderful. The service is amazing and you get the feeling everyone who works there really cares. Prices are very fair and not too expensive. Portions are large and well presented. They also have a great bar and very fun and unique choices. There is also a nice little parking lot next door which is a bonus in the area. It is also nice that it isn't in LoDo or Downtown so you don't have to pay 10 dollars to park and have to deal with the down town drama. Another note. Make a reservation its very busy."

  • "Love this eclectic restaurant with a cool history of Pueblo Mafia ties long ago! (Who knew ?) It's been recently renovated, & has a nostalgic, cool vibe & atmosphere! The bar looked really inviting as well! The food was so fresh & perfectly cooked! I had salmon (perfect!) with broccoli rabe. Others raved about the pasta (traditional & phenomenal all at once!!) The new owner, Ron, is a super-friendly New Yorker (loved the accent) who helped us out with our meal choices (all excellent) and says they are going to improve the menu even further. He will have a built-in pizza oven very soon! I can't wait!!! I also hear there is a great Frank Sinatra impersonator on Tuesday nights! I'm coming back for that!!!! You MUST eat here!"

  • "What a wonderful experience we had at Gaetonos. I have lived in Denver my entire life, and never visited this restaurant. What a loss for me. Justin was our waitor. What an amazing young man he was. He provided the best service I have ever experienced. He was very courteous, friendly, and attentive to all our requests. I definitely will be returning and will recommend to my family and friends."

  • "A friend and I enjoyed out lunch at Gaetano's. We received good service and the food was very good. A few years ago, four of us had tried to go there, but they had no gluten free dinners; so I was very happy that they now have gluten free food, and it is quite good plus they have a large selection."

  • "We did a late reservation on Valentine's Day and it really was a perfect spot. Just outside of the really up and coming part of the Highlands, its a great little find. Sort of mafiso style Italian, all of their food is to die for and the ambiance was great. Loud and energetic, but still romantic. Service was awesome, overall great experience."

  • "We live in Wyoming, but will make the 150-mile journey to Gaetano's for our special occasions. Their minestrone is the BEST we've ever had and we order it every time we go to Gaetano's. Their old-school Italian recipes cannot be beat. We are originally from the East coast and have dined on some amazing Italian food, and Gaetano's can easily compete with those other restaurants. The spumoni at Gaetano's is REAL spumoni - served with maraschino cherry chunks and biscotti. The cannoli is perfect with silky smooth cream and candied orange. You absolutely cannot go wrong ordering anything from Gaetano's menu."

  • "My wife and I found this place on accident on day. It was about some time last year, and ever since we've been coming back. The prices are reasonable and the food is amazing. Eveytime we try something new and are never disappointed. Keep up the good work. This our favorite Italian resturant by far."

  • "My husband and I had a great time at Gaetano's the other night. The place was hopping at 9:30, the server was attentive (but not TOO attentive), they served great coctails, and the price was reasonable. We will be back."

  • "The noise level was too loud. You couldn't have a conversation without yelling. The seating was tight. I couldn't eat comfortably. My clams aglio olio were blan. Everyone else at the table liked there meal. My martini was $14.00 and much smaller than what I get at other restaurants. i ordered it with a twist which they forgot. My husband got ink all over himself when he signed the check. I prefer the old Gaetano's. JCMH"
