A word from Gaetano's & Ristorantino Mediterraneo
Chef Gaetano Di Benedetto is a native of the lush coastal town of Bagheria, located near Palermo, Sicily. He began as a kitchen apprentice in Palermo in 1978 and is a graduate of the prominent IPAS professional culinary school in Italy. His cooking career spans three decades, maintaining the title of Executive Chef since 1989 at restaurants throughout Italy, as well as France, England and the US.

While still in Sicily, Gaetano served as Chef at the oppulent Villa Paino, where he was accorded the honor of preparing state dinners for the Presidents of Italy, Francesco Cossiga, and Oscar Luigi Scalfaro. After leaving Sicily, Gaetano worked in such culinary capitals as London, Paris and Milan.

Chef Gaetano is a recent recipient of "Ospitalita Italiana" from the Italian Gov. This award signifies Gaetano's as an authentic Italian restaurant, 1 of 600 in the entire world! You will only find fresh, natural and homemade dishes at Gae

  • "The food is phenomenal. Each dish has an innovative twist, using unique combinations yet keeping the traditional Italian meal alive as well. The Calamari Ripieni Al Porto Rosa is the best calamari appetizer I have ever had; the flavors, the presentation, everything about this item is superb. If you are a dessert lover, I recommend the flour-less chocolate cake with raspberry coulis. I felt like I was eating dessert for an hour, because it was so delectable and I savored every bite. Quick Note: the ambiance of this restaurant is mastered in the restroom- I will not ruin the surprise but check out the awesome sink when you go!"

From the warm bread and appetizers through sharing tastes of each other's entries, to incredible desserts....each and every bite was delightful! A friend with me said that she has not had such good ricotta gnocchi since her mother's more than 30 years ago! Service was great! (Had one of the Dave's) Wine was amazing! Two words I always use to describe the experience of eating at Gaetano's table, "Food love!""

  • "My wife and I enjoyed dinner at Gaetano's to celebrate my birthday. Gaetano, as usual, greeeted us with a smile and a wave from the kitchen and when he had a moment he stopped by our table. I took his recommendation to have have Sea Bass while my wife had the Black Cod. Both were outstanding. The "Chef's Favorite" pasta was back on the menu ( since quality black truffles are back in season) and was wonderful as always. We also tried the new calamari appetizer that is stuffed with lobster. WOW!"

  • "Far too much wonderful food. 10 dishes for $60 & each and every one was amazing. Zucchini blossoms, tuna tartare, crab cannoli.... and the 10th dish, dessert, was actually a mini selection of panna cotta, sorbet, & an excellent tiramisu (it's amazing how many Italian restaurants get this wrong!). They eagerly wrapped up leftovers, don't worry. The waitress, Abbie(?), suggested an amazing wine that paired perfectly with a few dishes. Gaetano even made me gush about soup. How do you make soup that good?"

  • "But if your reservation is after 7:00 or so, be prepared to wait. The food is excellent, though, and well worth the extra time. There was a small meltdown in the kitchen that caused a delay for our entrees, but it wasn't a big deal in the end. Definitely recommend."

  • "Instead of spending food dollars at 'chains' ("Olive Garden" - allegedly Italian!), people should experience the care and thought and expertise put into the menu - it's creative, extremely tasty, served with a flair by great waitstaff, in an old and classic Italian way. The presentation is lovely, the food is such a rare treat and blend of great flavors and textures. The restaurant itself is very lovely with a wine display in the hallway between restaurant sections that is just great. The enitre environment is like the old country, and is a 'take me away' kind of dining setting. Really loved the experience."

  • "Our table of 4 had the Gaetapas. The ten courses were served usually 3 at a time. Each course is thoroughly described and presented nicely. Every dish had a uniquie and tasty twist. We were entertained by a duet featuring a violin and cello that played mostly rock songs at a very pleasant volume. A great night was had by all and we even were greeted and checked on by Chef Gaetano himself."

We always do the tasting menu with the wine pairings. This is a great way to sample lots of Gaetanos unique and delicious creations. I have never had anything here that wasn't outstanding! The wines are always perfectly paired with the various courses. We highly recommended Gaetanos for a fun night out. We enjoy it as a romantic date night place or a place to take out of town guests when we want them to experience a great meal. Everyone we take here has always raved about the food and have enjoyed their visit. We absolutely love Gaetanos!"

  • "We has the chef's tasting menu. It was out of this world. If you have any food allergies or a special diet the Chef will cook to order or to your liking. They want you to be happy. Executive Chef Gaetano Di Benedetto was there and working the room like a superstar. We experienced a multitude of fresh, home made, delicious authentic Italian foods such as Datteri e polpettina al cocco - Dates stuffed with beef and chorizo wrapped in pancetta and baked, served with coconut tomato sauce accented with cumin coriander and jalapeno. It was out of this world! And the Gnocchi di ricotta al Gorgonzola Home made ricotta gnocchi tossed with toasted pine nuts, imported Gorgonzola and a splash of cream - so good. Thank you for an amazing experience."

Would never have spotted the small restaurant due to it's location in a very nondescript strip of store fronts, west of the main drag of Madison Street. My phone request for reservation confirmation was prompt and friendly. Service, food, all lovely. The kobe beef carpaccio was phenomenal! Only thing that bothered me a bit was I felt as though the table was forever being cleared. Everyone was very polite but for a closer to dining in Europe feel, I wish I hadn't felt a little pushed to move through the dining experience. This is NOT light eating, particularly if eaten in under 1 1/2 hours, but I enjoyed Gaetano's and will return."

They had a 10 course tasting, so we tried that out... each course was better than the next. and to finish it off.. that amazing dessert... i still have dreams about that dessert. i wanted to find the chef and plant him a kiss, for the excellent food he served out that night. my recommendation....   • "My husband and I enjoyed a pampered meal at Gaetano's. We are vegetarian and found several delicious options. The fried artichoke antipasto was delicious and light. The beet and wold mushroom risotto wears a unique combination of flavors. The cheese gnocchi was a bit rich but melted in your mouth. We capped off the meal with the almond and flaming rum desser which was a great way to end a special meal."

  • "It's rare for me to have the kind of dinner that provides the total experience, and this was one of those times. Food does not have to be just sustenance, and Gaetano's showcases flavor, texture, visual appeal and environment in a way that is rare and uniquely theirs. We were able to enjoy the 10-course Valentines menu a day late and loved every bit of it. Our server was knowledgeable, and I felt the bill was reasonable for the meal received. We will certainly be back again soonish, it's a bit out of my price range to be a regular place."

  • "The food (we had the short ribs and gnocchi with short ribs) was amazing....short ribs taste like xmas because of herbs. We shared an appetizer and a dessert-portions are generous. The appetizer was strips of potato, mushrooms, and butternut squash...it was so good that I ordered a second one to take home. The dessert was the one they light on fire at the table....icecream with pistachios (i think) covered with incredible chocolate sauce with a liquor. Scrumptious! Our neighbors eating next to us introduced themselves and bought us "spoons" since we had never had them (they are not on the menu). They are panna cotta with lemon --omg! heaven. Had a very good red blend wine-Primus. The owner-cook, Gaetano, visited tables--nice touch."
