A word from Gaetano's & Ristorantino Mediterraneo
Chef Gaetano Di Benedetto is a native of the lush coastal town of Bagheria, located near Palermo, Sicily. He began as a kitchen apprentice in Palermo in 1978 and is a graduate of the prominent IPAS professional culinary school in Italy. His cooking career spans three decades, maintaining the title of Executive Chef since 1989 at restaurants throughout Italy, as well as France, England and the US.

While still in Sicily, Gaetano served as Chef at the oppulent Villa Paino, where he was accorded the honor of preparing state dinners for the Presidents of Italy, Francesco Cossiga, and Oscar Luigi Scalfaro. After leaving Sicily, Gaetano worked in such culinary capitals as London, Paris and Milan.

Chef Gaetano is a recent recipient of "Ospitalita Italiana" from the Italian Gov. This award signifies Gaetano's as an authentic Italian restaurant, 1 of 600 in the entire world! You will only find fresh, natural and homemade dishes at Gae

  • "There are plenty if Italian restaurants in Chicagoland and we have dined at many of them. But never have we found the quality, creativity and variety as we found at Gaetanos. The pastas are all homemade. The prices are reasonable. The service beyond accommodating. They want to please and they do. Great wine list and a perfect house made lemoncella to finish the meal. It isn't a huge place and it isn't fast food so make a reservation ad enjoy a relaxing dining experience."

  • "I have been to this restaurant many times. I go here for Italian food, not Italian influenced Northern African flavors. Now, I love northern African food, but this is not why I come. The food of good quality, but every time I am disappointed a bit more. However, we will not be retuning which is a shame as it used to be one of the best Italian places in the area."

  • "We have avoided this place in the past due to the noise level one saturday we tried to go in to be met with an ear ripping noise ...however this visit was on a tuesday and it was acceptable. The starter of calamari wrapped asparagus, tempura fried, was good and large enough to share... I had the scaloppine al limone, veal in a lemon sauce which was well cooked and quite refreshing with garlic mashed potato. The tiramisu however quaint being served in a flower pot, was too heavy and dry...and abandoned after a few spoonful. Fairly expensive but we would go back... The server was attentive when we first went in but his attention seemed to wane in favour of a regular who was seated nearby..."

  • "My wife and I dined here last Friday evening. The menu is broad and offers something for any taste. We both had pasta dishes and they were outstanding (homemade pasta)! Our server was David and he was extremely knowledgeable about all of the menu as well as making very good wine pairing suggestions. Their desert offerings are not to be missed, offering everything from sorbet and gelato to cheesecake delights. We are anxious to go back to explore their other wonderful dishes."

  • "Been coming here for many years and I always have a fine dining experience including chef Gaetano visits to our table. Good service and ambiance. However waiters no matter male or female always seem to be a bit aggressive and cocky, add to this the feeling that they can't wait for you to leave once your meal is finished. I will always come back here for great food."

  • "We had dinner here on saturday night, based on a friends recommendation. Gaetano's did not disappoint, every aspect was impeccable. The servers were all friendly and very knowledgeable, and the food was the best Italian we have ever had. On top of the regular menu there was what could be considered another full menu of specials. If you love Italian food, and have not eaten here, make a reservation and go as soon as you can."

  • "Truly unique and inventive Italian cuisine. Appetizers were wonderful, the most memorable was the pancetta wrapped dates stuffed with chorizo in a tomato coconut sauce. Another one was calamari steak wrapped around asparagus, then Tempura fried, with a sun-dried tomato chorizo shrimp sauce. I could go on and on, but you must experience this place!"

  • "Went to Gaetano's again after the Wright Walk. We had first been last year at this time. Chose the Chef's tasting, with the wine pairing, and it was magnificent. The pace of the delivery was excellent, allowing time for conversation between the various dishes/courses. There was not a dish that the entire table did not enjoy. The wine pairings were complimentary to the food, and generous in their proportions. "

From the moment you valet the car to the time you leave the restaurant, all service is very expedient and friendly. All of the staff rates an excellent from me. The food is outstanding. We are never rushed to leave so we linger over drinks and good conversation without feeling like someone is hovering over us. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!"

  • "We went on a Wednesday evening and ordered the tasting menu. We both enjoyed the variety and the different flavors we received. I think the only thing I would say negative was the dessert could have been a bit more, there was 3 items but they were fairly small and I am really a chocolate person with a sweet tooth. If you get a chance to ask for anything the best things we ate, and remember everything was very good the figs and the carpaccio were delicious. Be prepared to spend a good bit of money, you do get what you paid for though well worth it. We will go back."

  • "My wife and I went to Gaetano's on a whim only reviewing Yelp reviews, but was pleasantly surprised with the food. and spunky waitress, Jessica. Though her friends were at the next table and she was somewhat distracted, the entire staff was very helpful. My wife ahad the Gnocchi dish and I had the Halibut with reduction sauce. Both were fabulous. We started with the crisopy artichoke Antipasit which is also unique and very tasty. Go here, have a bottle of wine and try some really yummy home cooked-unique italian dishes."

  • "The food is phenomenal. Each dish has an innovative twist, using unique combinations yet keeping the traditional Italian meal alive as well. The Calamari Ripieni Al Porto Rosa is the best calamari appetizer I have ever had; the flavors, the presentation, everything about this item is superb. If you are a dessert lover, I recommend the flour-less chocolate cake with raspberry coulis. I felt like I was eating dessert for an hour, because it was so delectable and I savored every bite. Quick Note: the ambiance of this restaurant is mastered in the restroom- I will not ruin the surprise but check out the awesome sink when you go!"

  • "My wife and I enjoyed dinner at Gaetano's to celebrate my birthday. Gaetano, as usual, greeeted us with a smile and a wave from the kitchen and when he had a moment he stopped by our table. I took his recommendation to have have Sea Bass while my wife had the Black Cod. Both were outstanding. The "Chef's Favorite" pasta was back on the menu ( since quality black truffles are back in season) and was wonderful as always. We also tried the new calamari appetizer that is stuffed with lobster. WOW!"

  • "Was greeted warmly at the door. Even the valets were friendly... From the warm bread and appetizers through sharing tastes of each other's entries, to incredible desserts....each and every bite was delightful! A friend with me said that she has not had such good ricotta gnocchi since her mother's more than 30 years ago! Service was great! (Had one of the Dave's) Wine was amazing! Two words I always use to describe the experience of eating at Gaetano's table, "Food love!""
