Diner Reviews
  • "Gabriel's is one of the best restaurant in the country for the southwestern cuisine."
    Dined on 7/28/2014
  • "Restaurant was OK. The margarita taste like it was made from a mix. The table side guacamole was worth returning for. Other than that - eh."

  • "As we were leaving Gabriel's with some friends that had never been before, my comment was--"It's so consistently good" Gabriel's is just a easy go-to restaurant. Great guacamole made at the table, wonderful mole, fish tacos that are really good(except the 2nd taco tortilla gets soggy and they fall apart, but you eat with a fork instead of your fingers) and really good crab enchiladas. Always consistent. What more can you ask?"

  • "Good food, nice place, but watch out for your credit card. I left my credit card at the restaurant, and 4 hours later, the card was compromised and false charges were appearing on the card. The bank notified us and cancelled the card. I called the restaurant and told the manager, who swore that this would never happen at her place. She said that she would call the bank to investigate and get back to me. I am still waiting for that call. So......be careful if you are using your credit card at this place. I cannot say with 100% that if was compromised at Gabriels, but does it not sound suspicious to you, that I left my card there (the restaurant confirmed that they have it) , and 4 hours later it is being fraudulently."

  • "Delicious guacamole, made right at your table. Loved the tomatillo sauce on my enchiladas verdes. This menu and flavor is more Mexican than New Mexican, a nice break from food routine. Attentive and friendly wait staff, though our waiter seemed in a hurry."

  • "We were seated & served quickly --pleasant but efficient as expected fro a major destination for before-the-opera dining ... ambiance was good but food --given the expectations based on other's reviews, was disappointingly ordinary, as though "dumbed down" for tourists"

  • "We went to Gabriel's for a pre opera dinner and were not disappointed. We arrive about ten minutes before our reservation and were seated right away. The must have is the table side guacamole. It is so creamy and delicious. When we left about an hour later they were waiting out the door. Reservations a must and probably the earlier the better."

  • "Very authentic and wonderful tasting food. The guacamole prepared table side is unexcelled!! Great service, quiet and lovely setting"

  • "Our group wanted to thank our teacher for all the time she spends helping us. We wanted to take her someplace special and definitely wanted to dine " al fresco." Gabriel's was the perfect place. The service was excellent, friendly and fun. We'll plan a return evening before summer is over."

  • "We had the made at the table guacamole which was a wonderful treat. I then ordered the Chickn Taco Salad and was very pleased with the fresheness of the lettuce and grilled chicken with a wonderful blend of spices that brought out all the favors. Very satisfying meal."

  • "The food was great, the service was very good..outdoor seating was very nice. The prices are very reasonable. We would go back!"

  • "Gabriel's is my favorite restaurant in the Santa Fe area, especially when the weather is nice enough for outside dining. If you like guacamole, you must try Gabriel's. There are several vegetarian dishes. The vegetable enchiladas include yams for a great flavor. I always bring guests to this restaurant and we are never disappointed."

  • "If you go to Gabriel's, take advantage of the patio. "

  • "We have been going to Gabriel's for as many years as it has been in existence--about 19 to 20 years. The food is consistently good, and the servers efficient. Many have been "waiting" there since it opened. Summers on the patio are especially pleasant."

  • "We get to Santa Fe 2X per year, but this was our first time at Gabriel's. Guacamole made table side is HEAVEN! Food was very fresh and tasted homemade. Chile Rellenos were stuffed with a tasty mixture and served with corn and beans. Sizzling chicken fajitas were also great. Chicken was tender and perfectly cooked. And a perfect flan to top off a perfect meal!!! Staff is efficient, attentive and friendly. And in city where dining can be pricey...it was all around $50 for two. We will definitely be back!!!!!"

  • "We had the guacamole (made at our table) and it was excellent. Both of our meals were generous and very tasty."

  • "Despite having a reservation, my companion and I had to wait almost half an hour for a table. The restaurant was incredibly noisy. Our appetizer came right away, but we waited a considerable time for the main course ~ despite the waiter repeatedly telling us it was on its way. The guacamole was good, but the entrees were bland and uninteresting. I will not return to this restaurant."

  • "Everything was excellent. I particularly liked the guacamole made tableside, the house margarita, and the good selection of vegetarian entrees. Lovely outdoor setting."

  • "This is the 2nd yr in a row we have spent Mother's Day at Gabriel's. Last yr was such fun outside but this yr the weather didn't cooperate. It was snowing at times! But I guess the staff at Gabriel's cannot do anything about that. We had reservations and understandably they were behind because no one wanted to sit outside but with in 20 min all 8 of us were seated. We had wonderful service and wonderful food. I love the fish tacos here. Really some of the best I've eaten. The sangria was deliciosa. Everyone was satisfied and the mom's left with a beautiful rose in hand. Love Gabriel's. Will be back this summer for their table side guacamole and some sangria. "

  • "Lunch party of 4 on 5/5. Total bill $115.05. Margaritas tasted watered down. Special guacamole for four was made from two tiny avocados and was tasty but inadequate and over priced. The chips were stale. Seafood fajitas had 4 tiny shrimp and a very small piece of burned, dry fish on a huge pile of peppers and onions. Chicken fajitas had a small portion of totally dried, inedible white meat. We spent some time and laughs trying to find the fish in the fish tacos. The expensive limes were juice-free. The waiter was good. The parking was free. We are part of a restaurant review team...its a good thing we were taking the day off!"

  • "What a strange dining experience. All the food was wonderful including the table side guacamole. The portion for 4 was smaller than it has been in the past but of excellent quality. The courtyard did not seem "ready" for the season and lacked greenery. The people however seemed in another world, barely speaking to us. They removed a margarita before it was finished without asking, small-annoying things."

  • "We enjoy eating here on special occasions, our waiter was a little slow and we got better service from the busboy. We come for the tableside guacamole service. "
    Dined on 4/20/2014
  • "Unlike other New Mexican restaurants in Santa Fe we got NO SOPAPILLAS with our meal. Disappointing you have to pay extra! The food was good and on time the waiters attentive. The guacamole made table side is excellent!"

  • "like always....gabe's delivers on new mexican fare. think drinks are little overpriced but that doesn't stop me. love the fajitas, tacos al carbon, ribs (not all gooey but usually super tender). good green and red. chips can be little funky. always a go to spot. "

  • "The menu at Gabriel's is extensive. Our server did a great job of making suggestions. The food was excellent!"

  • "When we were complete and I proffered my VISA card ,it was rejected. Why because it was issued in the UK and unlike the majority of dealers their approval of credit cards does not allow their system to dial overseas approval numbers. So where does this leave the customer. Luckily for US travellers the same does not apply to European restaurants etc."

  • "I have been going to Gabriel"s every few weeks since it opened almost 20 years ago. I lived in a rural area near the restaurant and it was the one and only place in "the neighborhood". Population has increased since then, and it still remains the best in the area. Many of the employees have worked there since its beginning. Their custom made guacamole is the best."

  • "SEEK = Service Excellence with Exceptional Kindness! Table side Guac beyond your expectations! Old time favorite of local Santa Fe residents for the BEST in authentic New Mexican fare. "Go For It!!""

  • "This was our first time visiting Gabriel's and we were not disappointed. I ordered the steak fajitas and my husband ordered the 3 item combination platter. The food quality was outstanding and the ambiance very nice. The most memorable, however, were the sopapillas. They were light, fluffy, and had amazing flavor - by far, the best I've had in New Mexico! We will definitely return!"

  • "Although I visited the restaurant in winter, it is clear that the outdoor space and view are lovely. The restaurant and bar are attractive and lively, and the food is above the usual Northern New Mexico fare."
    Dined on 2/19/2014
  • "Gabriel's offered it's usual attentive service and quiet ambience. But this visit was special … it was my friend's birthday and I needed an electrical outlet to show her what was stored on her gift (a digital item). I used the "special request" area on the Open Table reservation to ask for a table by an outlet, and Gabriel's made sure it happened. We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed both the meal and the ambience. Thank you!"

  • "This is about a 15 minute drive North from Santa Fe, but I highly recommend it since it is the best Mexican Food around."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "The food was great but the server was terrible! He did not come back to the table to see if we needed anything. When he took our order he was looking across the room watching another party. We felt we were an inconvenience to the server and we're the paying customer. He did not even offer water with the drinks and meal. We'll go back because the food was good but next time we will ask for another server if we have that kind of service!"

  • "We try to fit in a dinner at Gabriel's every time we visit family in the area (we have lived in PA and VA for the past 25 years). This time it was New Year's Eve, and the food was very good as usual, from the Guacamole prepared to order tableside through dessert. The Sangria that night was the best we have ever had."
    Dined on 12/31/2013
  • "We went to dinner New Year's Eve, NOT Monday. We like eating at Gabriel's, we go there because its closer then Santa Fe and less pretentious. I did notice that the menus and chairs need replacing. I had the ribs and my wife had the carnitas. I was not in the mood for Mexican fair. HOWEVER, the charo beans were over salted good, but saltier then I'm used to."

  • "Having lived in New Mexico for 14 years, I've tried plenty of the restaurants this state has to offer. Gabriel's is by far my favorite. They are a lovely place to go for dinner on a special occasion or just for a nice night out. They have consistently delicious food, and their guacamole (made fresh at the table) is the best you'll find in the state. They have a variety of New Mexican staples as well as some Mexican favorites. There are plenty of vegetarian options as well. They have all of the desserts you would expect to find at a Mexican restaurant (flan, tres leches, churros) and they are all flavorful and traditional. Gabriel's is a bit pricey, but it is completely worth it."

  • ""I like the layout of the restaurant - I like the flow of the main dining room. I have my favorites dishes, especially the tableside guacamole. But we did notice that the serving size has shrunken. I ordered the chili stew, it was saltier then I am accustomed too. Must have been the last, thou, the stew had an over-abundance of chili stems and seeds. Service was well-timed, friendly, and recognizable. We like knowing who may be waiting on us."

  • "One of our favorites in Santa Fe area. Worth the drive out."

  • "Start with the Guacamole made at the table. Enjoy the Plato de Carnitas and take the leftovers home for a second meal. Fajitas, Fish Tacos, and Enchiladas are all good. A margarita on the rocks is always a good compliment. I never seem to have room for desert. It's a good place to bring a friend to celebrate their birthday. Service is always friendly and prompt."
