Diner Reviews
  • "Our experience was that of a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere, not stuffy. The staff was very attentive and the food tasty. The salmon was exceptional and the pasta always interesting. The wine selection was varied so there were many to choose from. A very fun evening."

  • "OK in all respects without being outstanding in any. Recommended for Restaurant Week lunch if you're in the neighborhood."

  • "We've loved coming to Gabriel's for many years - a consistently amazing experience. We hosted an event for 28 people for a non-profit (Life Is Great Foundation) and the experience was beyond beautiful. Gabriel and his team are warm, generous and very professional, and every guest left feeling loved."

  • "Walking in, the restaurant smelled of disinfectant. Not very appetizing. In general the meal was good but not worth the price."

  • "RESTAURANT DID NOT USE OPPORTUNITY TO PROMOTE ITSELF, MADE NO EFFORT TO ENCOURAGE CUSTOMERS TO RETURN. FOOD ORDINARY, CHOICES ON PRIX FIXE MENU FEW. EMPTY LUNCH-TIME CROWD. NOTHING SPECIAL."

  • "Our fish and pasta dishes were exceptional. We were very pleased with the service as well. We'll definitely be back!"

  • "Had a great lunch with old friends: delicious food, attentive and friendly service, and very comfortable surroundings. The choices on the Restaurant Week menu were excellent and very satisfying, which, in my experience, is not always the case."

  • "We go to many restaurants in London- I went with my daughter (A university student) I lecture in Art History- we have travelled around the world, Very poor service- felt they didnt welcome us. waiter surly, while I was tasting the wine, he was checking his watch! The restaurant was half full, with an atmosphere of elderly sedateness... We were made to feel that as we werent elderly wealthy New Yorkers we didnt belong- something I never get going to equivalent restaurants in London!!! so what we were on the NT restaurant week offer- every customer should be treated with respect!"

  • "Amazing consistency over the years. Their cold soups in summer are the very best and pasta is always perfect."

  • "Our dinner at Gabriel's was merely average while the bill was breathtaking. For pre-theatre Lincoln Center, there are many better options for the cost including Boulud Sud. Even though the restaurant was quiet, the service was slow and erratic. Overall, a disappointing experience."

  • "Very good food and service with an excellent track record over the years."

  • "Gabriel's is my go-to restaurant for any time I want to meet a friend before the theatre, opera, or ballet at Lincoln Center. Always good, always a warm, inviting atmosphere. They have a new chef, who's doing some things well, while other things I miss."

  • "Excellent service, wine and food! comfortable having a conversation and hearing each other. Close to office and Lincoln Center; not too crowded at certain times; good for lunch or dinner"
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "Service excellent. Waiter knowledgeable and is attentive but yet lets you sit and relax. New menu is good. Had the pork tenderloin special which was very tasty and husband had the scallops which were also very tasty. Miss the ravioli zucca. Also, desserts still could be improved."

  • "Relaxed table spacing reduces to noise to conversation level, and chairs are comfortable. Menu is quite varied and has vegetarian options. Preparation is reliably careful, dishes reminiscent of small Italian restaurants. Service is attentive and friendly without being officious or disruptive. We took old friends from South Asia and had a very pleasant evening."

  • "This was the second time my husband and I have eaten at Gabriel's, and we plan to return on our next visit to NY. The food and the service are wonderful, and the location is perfect for dinner before a jazz show. "

  • "The menu listed Lasagna as a house specialty, but did not list a price. My host ordered it; when it arrived it was a smallish portion, looked like reheated and flat and tasted rather mundane. When the bill arrived, my host thought that the waiter had made a mistake with the price and questioned it. He was told that this price "was in the system"; no interest was shown about his complaint. Very disappointing!"

  • "Restaurant tables cramped together. Requested another table + was told that "we need to pack 'em in. Rent is high". When I asked who this arrogant person was who I was talking to it was Gabriel. Set the tone for the evening. High rent should not be a customers issue. Take fewer reservations and avoid cattle like treatment. Service rushed. Different staff came over every 2 minutes to take order. Food mediocre. The new waitress from Tennessee was very sweet."

  • "An ideal restaurant location for dinner near Lincoln Center. The hosting and wait staff is highly professional and wonderfully and quickly attentive. The food is also well above the typical "get'em in, get'em out" and pretentious "chef named" restaurants that surround Lincoln Center. I wouldn't hesitate to go back again."

  • "It's always a pleasure to return. If I lived in the neighborhood, I would be there 2 lunches and 1 dinner a week, for sure. Every dish is so fresh, delicious, with generous/gutsy flavors & well - cooked. One can feel the care and hospitality just beaming out. Super warm, not fawning, service. GREAT place to have a lunch meeting...and a wonderful place to relax with friends. Going to make a point of returning more often. "

  • "Other than a smaller-than-it-needs-to-be grilled octopus appetizer, Gabriel's offers a nice neighborhood alternative to the excesses across the street at the Time-Warner mall of off-the-charts, expensive restaurants. High ceilings and a sense that you've entered something old and established, reasonably refined and cultured is what first strikes you as you walk in. Lamb chops were excellently prepared - although, also on the meager side in terms of 4 very thinly cut chops with a heaping tablespoon's worth of vegetable accompaniment - and pasta offerings pleased everyone. So, recommendations would be for the kitchen to put a little more fish and meat on the plate and not be quite so miserly given the very healthy bill at the end."

  • "Gabriels has held to a very high standard for a long, long time. Never take this place for granted, there are always thinking and moving ahead, though always sticking to the best traditions."

  • "gabriel's is an old favorite of mine. always an interesting menu. good food. nice wine."

  • "The restaurant is ok, but it's too expensive ($160 including tip for two: one appetizer, two plates of pasta, no dessert, one margarita and two glasses of wine)"
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "Warm room with enough modern touches to please old and young alike. "

  • "This was out 5th annual visit to Gabriel's and the food and wine sommelier gets 5 stars but the waiter was cold and snobbish. Totally different experience for us this year. We probably won't go back next spring."
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "The new menu is a bit nouvelle but this is an A level restaurant. Everything is great and the presentation is as good as the food. Save room for desert. "

  • "My husband and I love this restaurant. It is an oasis of casual elegance, old world charm; delicious fresh terrific italian food. The waiters are knowledgeable; the staff warm and owner Gabriel lovely. We are always happy to go here, and happy after our meal."

  • "We have, when visiting NYC gone at least once, on Everyman trip. Never had a meal that sissapointed us. In general The staff Is very knockledgable and friendo y."

  • "Excellent as always in all phases of the restaurant game. Wonderful, unusual preparations of Italian classics. One of the best places in the Lincoln Center area. "

  • "Perfect for pre-Lincoln Center dining. I've never had a bad meal there."

  • "Lunch was fine, but the food is better at dinner -- more variety and better prepared. We like the ambiance because the noise level is moderate and we can hear each other without screaming across the table. "

  • "Gabriel's has been on our list for pre-theater dinners when we're attending events at Jazz at Lincoln Center. The food is good ranging from acceptable to very good. The service is also good. If you're going, go early as the restaurant is a default for many theater goers. Its best to beat the crowd. A 5:30 reservation is recommended for an 8:00 show."

  • "We have been here before when the food was better. Appetizer was tasteless. Fish entree was only OK. Dessert was fair. Prices were too high for the quality of food. Dinner for 2 sharing one appetizer and one dessert with a half bottle of wine ($28) was $170. There are better restaurants in the Lincoln Center area if you want to spend that much."

  • "This formerly superb Lincoln Center neighborhood restaurant has sadly fallen from its decades-long position at the top of the Upper West Side's restaurant list. Every aspect of the dinner was a disappointment, from the bread (no rolls, no butter, random slices of loaf ends) to the brusque, intrusive waitstaff, to the dessicated fish entrees that had clearly spent time under a heat lamp. The restaurant was half empty on a Saturday night. Very sad. Still a beautiful space, though."

  • "limited menu of delicious Italian dishes. The wine list is not extensive, but offers many good choices. Pricey."
