Diner Reviews
  • "Another delicious and enjoyable dining experience with friends at Gabbis. Their chicken quesadilla is unique in its seasonings as well as “tortilla”...certainly not your typical quesadilla. "

  • "The actual restaurant is very nice. Food was mediocre as well as service. You pay for presentation not taste. $9 for 2/3 cup of guacamole"

  • "I love this place, the service the food, the location great. The only thing I don't like is the sun is always going to be in one party's eyes while dining and annoying as it is, it isn't a deal breaker. I would recommend when calling people to confirm the reservation that you warn them about the construction and parking situation. It can add an extra 10 minutes to your arrival."

  • "If you are interested in great margaritas/sangrias to go with your amazing Mexican meal, Gabbi's will definitely be the place! The price is fair for what you get. Mix in the vibrant ambiance and you have yourself a great outting fit for lunch or dinner!"

  • "Loved our server. He made us feel right at home with his "Latin-self". Grest service!"

  • "Although its much smaller than I expected, we were wowed by the food.I've wanted to eat here since a chef friend recommended it as his favorite restaurant in O.C. Dragged my husband along and he is STILL raving about it. Wonderful menu. The chicken mole was delish, as were the guacamole, and some of the tacos. The house margarita is perfect. It can be noisy but we were still able to talk very easily. The decor is rustic brick walls with Chiluly-style glass sculptures. Very cool."

  • "My out of state parents came for a visit and where interested in a Mexican meal. On Thursday afternoon Open Table could not get us a dinner reservation for four on Friday or Saturday so we opted for lunch on Saturday. The food was excellent! Unfortunately the server disappeared after taking our order and I had to inquire with another server about our drink order. By the time we finished our appetizers the drinks finally showed up. I expected the manager to come by at some point to apologize but it never happened. When it came to dessert the server was unaware of the kitchen being out of our selected item. At least she got the food orders right. I give the kitchen an A+ and the server a C-."

  • "We dined at Gabbi's after it was recommended to us. We were very pleased with what we found. The service and the food were outstanding. I would definitely go there again to try another entree."

  • "Really cute restaurant with an interesting menu. Food was good, not great, but still a place I would go again. The main draw, I think, is the atmosphere."

  • "The first positive was that when we called to say we were stuck in heavy traffic, the host was very accommodating. The location is in a charming old towne section of Orange amid antique shops and near a lovely town square -- great after dinner strolling area. Parking was plentiful just across the street in a public lot (free). Inside, my only complaint is that it was quite dark and a little hard to see the menu. The waiter was superb, helpful, and knowledgeable. Carne asada tacos with bacon smoky beans, braised pork gorditas, tortilla soup, and dessert for two was under $60 with tip. Very reasonable for the excellent, fresh, perfectly seasoned fare. Of particular note: the homemade tortillas -- makes my mouth water remembering them."

  • "The food is great, the service very good. But it's so dark we had to use our cell phones to read the menu and you can barely see the food. Ambience is a good thing, but this is too much. If the food wasn't so good we would hesitate to return."

  • "Loved the posole--so innovative! Terrific handmade tortillas and sweet plantains. Artistic ambiance, and friendly, efficient service."

  • "So we moved wayyyyy out of town up on a mountain. The drive down isn't all that quick or friendly but Gabbi's is such a wonderful place; the food is so unique and packed with flavor that I truly dream about eating there. And it was so easy to grab a seat with "OpenTable". :)"

  • "If you like great food, service, and ambiance, this place is for you. The drinks were also very good. Prices were reasonable considering all the above. Make sure you have reservations though...the place was packed on a Tuesday night in February! If you are in the mood for authentic Mexican, this place will not disappoint!"

  • "Took my parents there for dinner and they loved it! The handmade tortillas were second to none! My only critique is that the weather was chilly outside and they still had all of their ceiling fans going. Everyone dining still had their jackets on. Not a dealbreaker though. Service was superb and on point."

  • "Food was wonderfully cooked and flavored. My family loved the restaurant. Servers were attentive and friendly. Patio-like atmosphere was great for some natural light. Noise level was not too loud. We were able to converse comfortably."

  • "I have been here a few times and each time the margaritas are spot on. Its not your typical mexican food .. I love that Gabbis shows another side of mexican food .... its not just nachos and tacos . You cant go wrong with any menu choice ."

  • "was looking around on opentable listings to see what seemed appropriate for lunch with my mom, both of us very appreciative of good food, and as I mentioned Gabbi's name she referenced friends saying they liked it. So we hopped over and found it very easily ,the setting was great and the staff was very respectful and friendly. i mentioned that we were first time diners and were given a very helpful recommendations and from what I gathered from the menu as well as what i had for an entree, their food was done quite well. not a complaint to be had. i was expecting my mom to be a little harsh with her criticisms but she was completely satisfied, which to me was a big relief."

  • "My husband and I went for an early New Year's Eve dinner and again, Gabbi's did not disappoint. We shared the scallops for appetizer which tasted fresh although the dressing was a little on the sweet side. I expected it to be more on citrusy, like a ceviche. For dinner I tried sopecitos which is an appetizer. That was very delicious and the serving portion just right. My husband enjoyed his camarones en mole verde. Again, the service was friendly and warm."

  • "Gabbi's menu is unique and each dish is, not only delicious, but beautifully presented. Service is fast, friendly, and efficient...even when they are super busy...which seems to be most of the time. We love the unusual food combinations and wonderful use of spices. It is a gem!"

  • "My wife and I have seen this restaurant in downtown Orange but just tried it out with friends. For years we've heard of a great restaurant in Orange but didn't know the ne as there isn't any signage for the restaurant. We finally equated the good reviews with this restaurant. Great food! Great service! We'll definitely be back with more friends and family for sure!"

  • "My friend Bailey and I went here and it was absolutely outstanding. I can't remember what it was called but I had a kind of play on a chile relleno, and it was so good. It tasted like Christmas. I bought my parents a gift card on the spot, and now I'm going back again later this week. YUM."

  • "Gabbi's is an amazing gem located in Old Town Orange. The food is amazing and very authentic. One of our favorite items is the queso con chorizo. The margaritas are excellent as well. The homemade flour and corn tortillas are to die for. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "The food is consistently great at Gabby's and I make sure to take my out-of-town guests there for dinner. I recommend reservations as the restaurant is cozy and there is generally a wait."

  • "There were four in our party and each of us ordered the same thing...the lunch special - fish tacos. These were the most delicious I've ever tasted. Had bits of mango for a touch of sweet and they were made with grilled Grouper that gave them added flavor. We enjoyed eating on the edge of indoors/outdoors so we had the best of both worlds - seeing the downtown scene and yet being in a restaurant with character. Waiter was great; food cooked to perfection."

  • "We love Gabby's! Every time we come to Orange we make it a point to have dinner at Gabby's. We live in Laguna Niguel where there are no good Mexican Restaurants. Gabby's cooks everything fresh. It is very authentic Mexican food, and the flavors are amazing. This is not your typical Mexican food that you find at most restaurants. Be sure to make a reservation as it is a very busy restaurant."

  • "I made a reservation for my husbands birthday yesterday through open table it was a Tuesday night!! They were not busy, maybe 6 tables total when we went in at 5:30, we were early for our reservation and they sat us right away. I was so looking forward to our evening, we both ordered a drink, a appetizer, and our entrees! I was very shocked and surprised that they didn't mention a happy birthday to him, even after I put that in the special comments on the reservation. I also had mentioned to the server that it's his birthday. I felt bad, The check was dropped and no dessert, no little anything was brought to him or happy birthday. We left and went to another restaurant to have drinks, and a dessert for his birthday."
