Diner Reviews
  • "We had a DIne Originals gift certificate to use, and we chose to head to G Michaels before seeing The Addams Family. Reservations for two of us, but they sat us at a table for four and cleared two place settings, even though there were tables for two nearby. Seemd odd, but we had plenty of room. We shared an appetizer, and we ordered the fried chicken and the scallops for dinner. Both dishes were quite tasty, especially the slight spiciness of the scallops. Bottles of wine were reasonably priced. We skipped dessert and after dinner drinks as we needed to head to the show. We had bought the Dine Originals gift certificate during a 30% off special, so we had a deal and a good dinner."

  • "Four of us for dinner. Entrees were walleye, tuna, duck, and beef...each perfectly prepared with appropriate sides and sauces, when required. Two of us shared a house salad which was tasty and of nice size. We shared a lemon and a pecan pie for dessert. Both were delicious. Service was outstanding..attentive without being overbearing. This dinner was consistent with the other fine ones we've had thee."

  • "no bang for your buck at this pretentious overrated place from the highly overpriced mediocre appetizers to the ho-hum desserts not worth returning."

  • "As usual, our experience was outstanding. I planned a surprise birthday dinner for 2. Ahead of time, I took in a gift bag and made a request to have it and a special ingredient Cosmo on the table when we arrived. It was all waiting when we sat down. Our server was very engaging and knowledgeable. The food was incredible. I can't wait until our next visit."

  • "This is only the second time I've eaten at G. Michael's but each time has been fabulous. Great customer service and knowledgeable staff. Amazing food!! One of my favorite spots in Columbus."

  • "G. Michael's is our favorite restaurant in Columbus and was an easy choice for our anniversary dinner. Everything was perfect: quiet table, great service, cocktails, appetizer, entrees, dessert, wine. The menu changes periodically and there were several special options. It was a perfect night!"

  • "The menu has something for everyone. Although the restaurant was noisy because all the tables were taken, the ambience was nice and we could hear each other talking. Good waiter"

  • "Didn't have as great of an experience the first time I tried this spot in February, so I wanted to give it a second shot. While I do generally like the feel of G. Michael's, I did not have quite the experience I would expect for a restaurant like this. Food was pretty good, not that we were asked, but I just have a hard time paying $50-80 per person for dinner and not getting a superior level of service than you can find at any casual service restaurant. Simple things were missed: get me a drink or at least take my drink order within 15 minutes of being seated, clear my salad plate before bringing my entree, ect."

  • "We love G. Michael's. The ambiance is low-key and very pleasant. This is a great place to go if you actually want to converse with those dining with you. The servers always have great suggestions for wine and the food is always outstanding. In nice weather it is fun to sit in the pleasant courtyard. Thanks for always being consistent!"

  • "I had been looking forward to going to G. Michael's for some time after having read so many great reviews. We had a reservation for five and were all delighted with the food, drinks, and service. Our waiter, Thom, was helpful and personable. I would recommend it highly to anyone looking for a great meal."

  • "Her dish was fantastic,I think it was ravioli something like that.Mine was bellow average filet minion 8 OZ ,fries half burnt, the steak itself very salty, not tasty at all. Entire dish was soggy."

  • "I've been trying restaurants in Columbus since we moved here a couple of years ago. And this meal was by far the best I have had in Columbus!"

  • "There is just no question about it - G. Michael's has the best food on the planet for a cold winter's night. Not that the richness and depth of flavor doesn't do justice to other seasons, but it's in the winter that this food shines. On the table on this particular evening were some things from the menu: Pulled Rabbit Eggrolls, the Game Duo (Cornbread-stuffed Quail Breast, Fried Legs, Wild Boar Ragout), Choucroute Garnie. And, also a few special items including a vegetarian platter, which looked spectacular. In the dozens of times we've dined there, I can't remember G. Michael's ever disappointing."

  • "I had a recent landmark birthday and chose to celebrate it at G. michaels with my husband and two old and dear friends. The service was friendly and efficient ; and our friends, who were experiencing the restaurant for the first time, were delighted with the food and atmosphere. We had a great evening."

  • "Everything was great but our seat. We say in a booth at the NE corner of the back dining room and there was a horrible breeze from a vent overhead."

  • "It has a different menu than most restaurants in Columbus."

  • "This German Village restaurant is charming and unpretentious. It is a great place for a relatively quiet meal. I had the duck breast, pumpkin soup and flan. All were excellent. Each dish was complicated in its own way, but the ingredients consistently worked together. The fine, a French Bordeaux, nicely complimented the main course. This last visit was one of several over the years, and the chef is on top of his game."

  • "G Michael's was fabulous. This was our first time at the restaurant and would go back anytime we are in Columbus. The service was stupendous, great wine selection, appetizers were fantastic, entrees unique and delicious, and desert was to die for. This small venue on 3rd was a great find. I would recommend using the valet service since it is mostly surface street parking."

  • "Ordered he pulled duck confit gumbo as an appetizer, it was unreal. Every bite was indescribably good. My girlfriend ordered the scallops special and it was like a creamy paradise of textures and flavors. I ordered the braised lamb shank with zucchini and a Parmesan potato mash, and it was next level. It almost brought me to tears it was so good. We came home and hit the couch and my girlfriend made the statement, "I'm almost mad we just had that meal because it's going to ruin a lot of the food we eat for the next few months." It was that good."

  • "This is the second time I've been to G.Michaels for a special occasion and it did not disappoint! The food is always incredible and the service is great. Had a wonderful bottle of wine, recommended by the manager. The food is american but eclectic...great blend of flavors. One of the very best restaurants in the city and not overly priced. Fantastic!!!"

  • "I had been looking forward to having dinner at G Michael's and it did not disappoint! We started with the shrimp and grits which were delicious and just the right size. I think they serve this as a dinner option as well but I think it is a little rich for an entire dinner. We both ordered the dinner specials, striped bass and ribeye; both were fantastic. Portion size was just right and the food was amazing. We both cleaned our plates. They also had a special dessert, a peanut butter/marshmallow bread pudding. It was really good but I would have enjoyed a little chocolate in there. Overall we had a wonderful evening and we will definitely return as everything on the menu looked amazing."

  • "This is our go to restaurant for special occasions and Valentine's weekend was exceptional! We order all of our appetizers and entrees from the "specials" for the night and they were wonderful. Our waiter was efficient, energetic, and fun, which made our evening even better."

  • "This was my first visit to G. Michael's, and I was pleasantly surprised with the meal. I had the filet, which was perfectly cooked, and it came with a savory bread pudding that complimented it so well. I also tried the Pheasant Pot Pie, which I enjoyed. I had eaten pheasant before at the Refectory, and it was not up to the same quality. The best part of the meal, surprisingly was the desserts. I had a white chocolate mousse, which was delicious. Typically, I find mousses bordering on whipped pudding consistency, but this version was closer to a light cheesecake. It had incorporated marscipone, which gave is a delicious flavor and unique richness. My wife had chocolate chip bread pudding, which she loved."

  • "always a great experience, but this visit was particularly wonderful. The buffalo pork cheek was ridiculously flavorful …we could have ordered five plates of this appetizer! We love the seasonal variety in the menu, and the chef never fails with the appetizer specials. Glad to see the desserts are getting better. Can't wait to see what Chef has up his sleeve for the spring menu!"

  • "This is the first time my wife and I have dined at G. Michaels and it did not disappoint. The ambience in German Villiage is excellent (helped by the fact that the snow falling added a bit a charm), and the wait staff was some of the best I have ever seen. The food did not disappoint either - my wife had the Shrimp and Grits and she said these were better than any she has had in the South, I had the stripped bass special, and it was awesome. I would highly recommend the maple creme brulee for dessert. This is defintely one of those quaint little places that my wife and I will regularly visit from now on!!"

  • "Went for an early Valentine's and had an enjoyable visit. The pulled boar special entrée and the brussel sprout appetizer were delicious. Dessert menu did not have as much variety as the rest of the menu. One will most likely need to valet park. Service was excellent."

  • "Great food! Great service (Thomas was our waiter)! Made for an awesome experience, one of the best dinners Ive had in my 2 years in Columbus. Parking wasn't the greatest but they do have valet for $5. Pricey for sure (dinner for 2 was %=$105 plus tip-including drinks, appetizers and 2 entrees. I would definitely recommend, especially for a special occasion!"
