Diner Reviews
  • "We had a wonderful dinner - everything from the Duck confit, to the steak, the salmon, and the lasagna were excellent. I have eaten here several times and never been disappointed!"

  • "First did not have wine or beer we ordered. Filet was undercooked and chewy with a sauce that was too sweet. Broccoli rob was bland and all food on plate was cold. Lemon tart for dessert we all four tasted and agreed just downright bad. Server was pleasant enough all issues we had point to kitchen and management."

  • "Most of G. Michael's entrees are done southern style, which didn't sound like healthy options to us. At the recommendation of our server, we ordered their least expensive chardonnay and the mussels as our appetizer. The mussels were served in a huge bowl almost full of mussels. They had a strong smell, which we didn't like and the meat within the shells was not very plump. We finished half of what was served. My house salad had a hair in it and the server replaced it with a fresh salad. It too had something in it that wasn't supposed to be there according to the server when I asked what it was. The salad itself was very good. We opted for salmon as our entree and it was terrific."

  • "We have been dining here for years. Never once at G Michaels have I had a meal that was not absolutely outstanding in every way. It is our go-to for when we have out of town guests and want a lovely meal. Simply the best Columbus has to offer. Food quality is excellent, staff is wonderful and the Chef is superb. Will be back again and again."

  • "Interesting preparations but food is too rich; sort of 10 yr old style. Definitely not heart healthy."

  • "We really like G. Michael's and had attended a wine tasting dinner there a couple of months ago. Since we had had such a good experience then, we signed up for the tasting last Wednesday. The format was quite a bit different with no seating and a sort of bar where one stood in line to get samples of the different choices. The food was set out on one table, and it was somewhat difficult to obtain portions with people crowding around. Also juggling a plate of food and a glass of wine was a bit problematic. Luckily, we had had a snack at the bar before the event, so we weren't too hungry. So I think unless the next tasting event is of a sitdown dinner format we will not attend."

  • "Had a friend in from Houston and she LOVED it! Food was wonderful as always -- very different, lots of great flavors. Service too was great...fortunate to have Darrell who I've had many times -- always friendly, knowledgeable and responsive! G michaels remains an all time favorite!"

  • "My husband and I had dinner on a Sunday evening. Don't get me wrong...the food was good (filet for me, lamb chop for him), but I guess I expected a far more superior product. The small plate starter we split (shrimp & grits) was outstanding. I probably should have ordered several small plates and a salad instead of an entree. Wine was excellent (German Riesling)! Waitstaff was excellent!! Bartender was super nice! No complaints about that. It's a pretty place, but it smelled musty for some reason like a basement and there were green, turflike carpets on the floor. Maybe a recent water problem? All in all a nice dinner with my husband, but I probably won't be back. Was looking for that above and beyond experience."

  • "We had a great meal at G. Michael's. This restaurant never fails to deliver quality, unique dishes. Everything I ordered was delicious. Fresh and creative plates served by friendly waitstaff. Time and time again, this restaurant shows its' patrons that they care about presenting dishes that stimulate senses. Food is typically seasonal and is prepared in harmonious combinations, in comparison to other Columbus restaurants. The appetizers through dessert have really great flavor! Love this restaurant!"

  • "A wonderful evening, we went for a special evening and we were not disapointed. The food was outstanding, the service was right on, the table was tucked away in the room. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We will return."

  • "Dining al fresco in Ohio can be risky but the weather cooperated with us and we were all very comfortable on the patio at G. Michaels. The patio is small with maybe seven tables but nice and protected from the evening sun. This was our parties' second visit to G. Michaels and just as good as the first time. Everyone enjoyed all the food which is saying something for our group. The service was just right as our waitress saw that we were not in a hurry and gave us all the time that we wanted to relax and enjoy our meal together. We were probably there about two and a half hours, which was less than our last visit by the way. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Columbus but it's not easy to find ones that you can count on."

  • "This is one our favorite restaurants in Columbus. The food is always fantastic, and I have always had excellent service."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "We love all kinds of food, but all 3 items I ordered were overly complex in flavor. For example, the chilled asparagus and leek soup was excessively sweet, of all things. The shrimp and grits had more bacon than shrimp and would have been better with less spice in the tomato broth. The pork belly & octopus bruschetta also had an overwhelming sweetness, which was unexpected. I normally enjoy fusion cuisine, but these dishes seemed to take it all a step too far. If they had limited the ingredients to 2-3 fewer per dish, I think it would have improved the flavor quite a bit."

  • "We never got to a main course, savoring instead the unique flavor of small plates. Patio a plus."

  • "We ate early as we had tickets to a show that evening, so we were able to get the limited outdoor sitting on the patio and it was very nice. We had great weather and it was so peaceful sitting out on the patio. The food was amazing, including the chef's special ahi tuna and a fantastic bourbon pecan pie for dessert. The wait staff are always courteous and check in frequently without being obtrusive. One of my favorite places for a romantic dinner in Columbus."

  • "What a great find on a quick girl's trip to Columbus. The food was phenomenal and the cocktail offering was impressive. We dined on exotic food and drinks that you can't find just anywhere. The wait staff certainly added to the pleasure of this dining experience."

  • "I took my girlfriend to G. Michaels and it was fantastic in all aspects. The waiter was spot on with his timing; not overbearing and definitely didn't leave us hanging. The bread and (pepper) butter, soup, starter, entrees, cocktails, and dessert were all top-notch. You could tell that the chef had a lot of experience and he liked to have some fun when creating his dishes. The cocktails were creative as well. I would highly recommend the filet. G. Michaels has instantly become a top 2 or 3 restaurant in Columbus for me. We will definitely be back."

  • "This was an exceptional dining experience. Every year for our anniversary, my husband and I choose somewhere we haven't been before. It was a lovely atmosphere. Our server was fantastic. We started with the Calamari Fritti (very good), and each had the House Salad (nice greens, with spiced pecans and red wine poached pears), which were pretty large. She brought us warm sliced bread with butter. We shared a bottle of Barbera with our entrees: my husband had the Pan-roasted Wild Alaskan Halibut, and I had the Almond-crusted Trout. I couldn't finish but am looking forward to the leftovers for lunch today. We ended our meal with a dessert each (one being complimentary for the occasion). I would love to come back again; loved it."

  • "Had a great dinner with friends. Awesome menu choices. All selected seafood dishes. The pretzel crusted walleye was a really nice dish. The tilefish as a special that evening was excellent. We love this restaurant for special occasions or just dinner for two. One of out favorite spots in Columbus."

  • "We had a moderately large group for a 6pm Saturday dinner (7 people). They were very attentive to everyone at the table, even when they were getting busy. Food was fantastic, as always. The shrimp and grits got a lot of praise at the table."

  • "We thoroughly enjoy G. Michael's! We haven't been in 6 months or so, but once again, we left wondering why we waited so long?!? Our server, Tim, was awesome and explained all the specials (so many, my husband said his mouth was watering and he probably gained 2 pounds just listening to the descriptions) and was just a delight! The soft-shell crab appetizer with couscous was out of this world. I thought I was back in Annapolis, MD. The caponata salad (as well as the house) was extremely enjoyable. Finally, the salmon (divine) and lasagne were incomparable. We won't wait as long for our next visit. P.S. you know you will be treated like royalty when the valets impress you."

  • "If you're ever in Columbus and are looking for a disappointing dining experience, combining a snotty Maitre d' and second-rate cuisine, you can't go wrong at G. Michael's. Not a good start when the Maitre d' gives you and your family a look of disapproval and then sneers to his assistant to put us the corner by the noisy and very busy open kitchen next to the table of eight loud people. The good news was they had an excellent wine list; the bad news is our waiter didn't know anything about wine. The asparagus was tough and woody. The cold asparagus soup was delicious, as was the tomato soup. The salads were not very good; The Almond-Crusted Trout was over-cooked and dry. They seem to be obsessed with gluten-free."
