Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant was delicious. Plain and simple, if you take anything else away, the food was amazing. Unfortunately, they were way too overwhelmed with the quantity of people. I don't know if they normally have another server on Monday nights or what, but we waited over 20 minutes just to be acknowledged with water once we were seated, and every order we placed took an exorbitant amount of time to arrive at our table. The sangria was amazing. Fruity, perhaps not as strong as some but delicious. I ordered salmon and was awarded with a delicious and crispy dish with a side of squash (which I normally hate!) that I gobbled up. Unfortunately our dessert arrived as we needed to leave (30 minutes after ordering) so we didn't get to enjoy it."

  • "place needs to soften its acoustics-----it is too loud to have a conversation"

  • "We waited for 25 minutes for a waiter to actually stop and ask if we needed anything! Place was sort of busy and only a waiter and a waitress which did not bother to check on us until I we called him. Food is good, portions are reasonable, prices are ok. I would definitely give this place a second try at another time just because the food was good, I would recommend this place to a friend because the food is good although I will also warn them about the slow service. • "What a surprise to find that the food here is as good as it was. The service is friendly and the place is very casual. Parking may be a little tight, but if you are willing to walk a block or two you will be fine. Try different items, they are all great."

  • "Worst service I've ever had. The food was a big disappointment. I will never go back."

  • "The food was delicious with authentically Peruvian seasonings and sauces. Service was extremely friendly and our server was very knowledgeable about the wine list and food preparation. Great experience"

  • "My 11 year old wanted Chica Morada for her birthday. I found them via internet research. I wasn't ready to feel like we were back in Peru with the warmth, wonderful service and great people of Peru, but was exceptionally pleased to have the experience relived here. The food was equally wonderful. The food was authentic and filled with flavor. My daughter loved everything including the beef heart. We will be back again and again. "

  • "Fusion has some very good Peruvian dishes, including a couple of very good, fresh ceviches. Both times I have eaten at Fusion I was sitting next to a table of 10 in a very festive mood. This slowed service a bit, which was fine, but it also made it almost impossible to have a conversation since the hard floor reflected the raucous laughter of the festive group. I suggest a carpet or some other sound-dampening element to make the dining experience a bit more comfortable for the non-festive patrons. "

  • "We arrived Easter afternoon, hungry & eager for culinary adventure. The friendly, quick servers let us enjoy Fusion's delicious and distinctive sauces with thin baguette slices while we took in the lovely artwork. Soon our killer Fusion Sours and flavorful ceviche mixta arrived. The frothy, citrusy drinks complemented the mildly spicy seafood superbly. We shared our entrees, his rotisserie chicken with fried yuca and plantain, and my grilled salmon on creamy quinoa with grilled tomatoes. The chicken was perfectly moist and tender, falling off the bone. My salmon was flavorful and succulent. The quinoa had a surprising risotto-like consistency. We had a fabulous meal, and I will return! Once I can button my jeans..."

  • "If not for Open Table, we would never have gone to eat here just passing by. It is removed from the heavily foot trafficked streets nearby and has no curb appeal out front. You can only see a small bar from the street, so we were hesitant to go in but because we made the reservations, decided to honor it. We entered, with no one to greet us, passed through the bar area and noticed a hidden dining room in the back. There needs a sign at the front door to say this. My husband had a spicy seafood dish and my daughter had a beef stirfry( Lomo Saltado), and I had ribeye steak with beans and rice. The cuts of meat are very chewy and is expensive for what you get. The dulce de leche crepes were the winner of the night. Try for lunch."

  • "this place doesn't look like much when you first walk in. There is a counter and a long hall. Keep walking and you find yourself in a warm and inviting room. Our waiter was all smiles and very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu. Food was great, steak and eggs for dinner!! If you are an adult, try the second Sour drink on the menu.. (alcohol).. had to get two.. and I swear there is a dash of Tapatio in the center of it. we will definitely go back."

  • "We were late making a dinner reservation for a romantic Valentine's Day out and had to take the 9 p.m. slot available. Being walking distance from where we live, we were able to add to the charm of the evening with a romantic walk beneath a full moon and clear starlit skies. We were not disappointed by our choice. The food was outstanding - we both had the salmon over creamy quinoa risotto and a glass of Peruvian syrah. And the wait staff was very friendly, patient, and helpful. It was a bit noisy but not overly so. Also, there were several large groups enjoying the night out as well as families with children. Overall, a pleasant neighborhood atmosphere."

  • "Dinner was excellent. Ceviche was fresh, steak and fish entrees delicious, sides very good. Bring your own wine though. We ordered a Syrah from Peru, not sure what we got as bottle was open when brought to table and cork did not match the label. Service was ok, it was a busy night."

  • "The restaurant is surprising. Upon first entering, it appears to be quite small and smokey. The back of the restaurant opens up and there is a good size dining room. We dined here on Valentine's day and perhaps they weren't expecting such a packed house. It took at least 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged. The waiter finally approached our table and took our order. While you wait, they bring bread, which arrives with three delicious (and very spicy) dips. The appetizer was huge, but delicious and the food was very good as well. The manager came over to ask if we needed anything, we requested additional dip and another sangria; the extra dip never arrived and the drink took about 15 minutes to arrive. We'll be back though!!"

  • "Went here for dinner on Valentines Day, 2014. food was good and the restrauant was very busy. Staff was very friendly and service was excellent. For dinner I had the "Parrillada de Mariscos" which is an assorted seafood dish. It was very spicy, salty and dry to taste. This is the first time I have had this dish so I do not have anything to compare it with. My wife had the, "Lomo Saltado." She said the sause was perfect and the meat was good. One last thing. I thought the menu was hard to read (at least for me) because the print was small and it was covered in a plastic cover. Had to use the light on my IPhone to read it. I recommend reservations if you go. The Fusion seems to be an up and coming resturant in San Mateo. We will go again."

  • "Enjoyed all of our selections, all quite delicious. Ceviche was meaty, generous portion. My date ordered the Parrillada plate, the flavors across the board were excellent. The anticuchos were perfectly prepared & cooked, fantastic! Only the salad lacked any interest. Arroz con Mariscos (Paella)was perfect! Nice texture, lots of tasty seafood, fish melted like butter in my mouth. We finished with El Limeno, suggested by our waiter and a very nice finish. All of this would have been even more enjoyable if the space lived up to the food. Not very romantic and the addition of even just one other table made it loud. I'd hate to see the dining room full!"

  • "We dined at Fusion Peruvian Grill on a Sunday evening, so it was pretty quiet. It looks like a hole in the wall, but keep walking! You have the chance to view the delicious meals as they are being prepared on your way to the dining room. The appetizer sampler was delicious. A nice mix of flavors, mild and slightly spicy. My husband and I split a seafood dish that had a variety of shellfish over a pan fried red snapper in a red sauce. It was flavorful and hearty. They split the dish for us in the kitchen so we did not have to serve from one plate to another. We are new to Peruvian food. The staff was friendly and helpful. I am looking forward to returning and trying some of their other dishes."

  • "the only problem with this place is that mothers let their little children walk over to our table while we are eating. Maybe the restaurant could discourage this??"

  • "The food is outstanding and the service is excellent. Parking is a problem on B Street but worth the challenge of circling the area until you find a spot. The lamb shank and paella-type dishes are heavenly. We've been there for both lunch & dinner and enjoyed each time. Owner Pedro and his staff go out of their way to make this a friendly, neighborhood gem with excellent food and reasonable prices. Each new couple we introduce to this restaurant go back on their own and rave about it to their friends."

  • "From East 3rd Ave drive on B Street until you see Carniceria Mi Rancho. Next to this on the right, is the small front of Fusion Peruvian Grill. Bar in front, with dining room in back. A "must " on your visit includes a carafe of red sangria (best I've had, so delicious and fruity), Fusion Sampler (gives you a taste of several wonderful bites), 1/2 Pollo a la Brasa (our sides were plantains and rice), and Mil Hojas (1,000 sheets cake with vanilla ice cream) for dessert! You will not leave disappointed! Being off the beaten path allows for smaller crowds, and lots of free street parking. But does not sacrifice a wonderful dining experience! Service is good, and they'll gladly answer any questions you have regarding the menu."

  • "I had never eaten Peruvian food before, but my boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try. It is not in a very obvious or busy location, and seems like nothing from the outside. But when you enter you head back towards a larger dining room, with colorful paintings and Peruvian music playing. Our server was quick and friendly, and gave us food recommendations. Our dinner came out promptly and was delicious!! I was super impressed, and we gobbled up everything. The portions are a hearty size, and they bring out bread with 3 different dipping sauces. You have to try the Pisco sour which the drink of Peru. So tasty! I would definitely come back here again."

  • "The food at Fusion is bursting with the flavors of Peru. We had a large group of 8 and every dish was excellent and beautifully presented. The lamb shank entree received high praise for flavor and tenderness. Other praises went to the chimichurri filet and the seafood with rice (paella). Service was friendly and efficient- we will be back!"

  • "Hidden Gem in San Mateo. My only complaint was the table cloths. Use real cloths it feels better. Otherwise my co-workers and I loved the food."

  • "Inside this little restaurant front is a pretty sizable dining room. We ordered the Bistek and the Causa appetizer as well as the Paella, and they were all so good. The plates were hearty portions, and very tasty. The only negative was the red sangria we ordered which was too sugary, and the fruit we found looked like it was fruit cocktail from a can. That was disappointing. Overall, it was a great dinner with attentive service."

  • "While looking at restaurants in the San Mateo area, this one popped up. The food was very good and the service was too. Great little place if you're looking for something close to home and reasonably priced."

  • "Having spent a few weeks in Peru we often crave Peruvian food and of course Pisco Sours. We tried this place for the first time last Sunday and it satisfied our craving. The food and drinks were excellent! It was as if we were back in Cusco eating dinner along side the Plaza de Armas. The wait staff was very friendly but a little understaffed. The food was worth the wait!"

  • "I have been to this restaurant twice and so far it doesn't disappoint. We ordered two different ceviche's to share, one was grilled and the other was uncooked. Both were really good but I personally preferred grilled. When I first came I shared the rib eye steak with eggs, fries, and fried plantains with my partner. This second time around we were celebrating my boyfriend's dad's birthday and most of us ordered our own plates. For drinks, some of us had a sangria, corn drink, and beer. We also had dessert. One was with quinoa which was a pudding. I thought this one was good but very sweet. The other dessert we had was the short bread cookies with ice cream and I enjoyed that one very much. Definitely a must try restaurant."

  • "The food was pretty good, the service was great. They take your order on an ipad and send it directly to the kitchen. While some of the dishes are a bit on the pricy side, the rest is very reasonable for what you are given. $14 for half a rotisserie chicken with two side dishes (salad, beans, french fries, boiled sweet potatoes, sweet potato fries). Overall it is a great hidden gem not too far from downtown san mateo."

  • "I enjoy the food and the service staff, they are very friendly. I think they lack in personnel which prolongs the turnaround service, the entire restaurant was full and the had one guy taking orders, one girl at the counter and one cleaning the tables. The food is on point, i enjoy their sampler plate, ceviche, and lomo saltado. I've also tried their papa rellena and the noodle dish. All seasoned the way i like it and not over bearing. I recommend the food."

  • "This "B" Street restaurant is a good way to sample Peruvian style food and beers. The waiter explained the dishes and their contents and was very professional and friendly. The menu also contains a word list of Peruvian terms for the items on the menu. The room itself is windowless, but has its own charm, much like restaurants in South American Andes. Food is cooked to taste, filling and delicious. It is truly a "grill" oriented cuisine. The five of us enjoyed the meal, the beer, and the experience."
