I had the grilled artichoke which was delicious...right off the grill with a grilled lemon half to squeeze over it, and a nice side of arugula. Although we were 30 min late for our reservation, everyone was very accommodating and they even surprised us with complimentary glasses of bubbly! Nice touch. Our server was very attentive. We always thought to come back at least once every time we visited Napa. The second time we came to Napa and ate at Fume, it was fairly decent.
Our most recent visit consisted of driving out to Napa from Sacramento just to eat specifically at Fume but this experience we felt was a miss. The service was so-so, the food selection we soon realized was minimal and when we asked about the Filet Mignon, the waiter told us it was a bit "marbley" (if that is a word). is it just me or is Filet Mignon suppose to be tender and fatty free? We kept hearing about restaurants we should eat at and most of the popular hot restaurants we should check out. In doing my research I kept coming across this restaurant Fume but nobody heard of it so we were a bit skeptical. Well we ate here and it was fantastic. I would say it was up there with mustards and the service was 10x better than bottega. It actually turned out to be a combination of breakfast and lunch ordered off the menu. We were expecting a brunch, but that was only a minor surprise. The food was excellent and the service was very good. The restaurant does have a patio for outdoor dining. Nothing like that was on the menu. There was a pricey salmon entree and the salads sounded good but were meatless. So I told the waitress what I wanted and she said, "No problem, we do that all the time." So I got what I wanted and the charge for the added salmon was very reasonable. My husband and I had the steak, which was perfectly cooked. We wanted dessert but our guests couldn't go for it, too full. Next time I will stay away from the first course and we can enjoy the chocolate sundae!
