A word from Fujimar restaurant & sushi lounge
*** NOW SERVING SUSHI TILL 2AM ON W-ENDS AND 1AM ON W-DAYS*** Fujimar is an Asian-Latino, nouveau cuisine restaurant serving ceviche, lobster, sushi and more. Chef Mendizabal’s dishes reflect the confluence of Asian and Latin cuisines in a menu that interprets how Asian immigrants to Latin America adapted their cuisine to the New World ingredients and Latin culture. Meat, seafood and produce are carefully selected to the highest standards highlighting their own true flavors and origin. In particular, Fujimar’s ceviche and sushi bar will feature unusual delicacies like Tasmanian King Salmon and Hapu’up’u. Bar chefs Ari and Micah Wilder designed Fujimar’s beverage program utilizing locally sourced and seasonal ingredients in drinks created using classic techniques. The wine list features imports produced by artisan winemakers, ranging from the mineral-laden Austrian Gruner Veltliner and German Rieslings to Cru Beaujolais and Priorat. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We went to the restaurant to try the sushi, and, while the hand rolls were good, we found the rolls overseasoned with sauces to the point that they really overpowered the fish. They didn't taste bad, they were just not to my taste. There are some nice cocktails on the menu and a pricey wine list. Perhaps for things other than sushi, this would be more of a hit."

  • "There were many things I liked about this restaurant -- the food exceeded my expectations; the decor was sleek and modern but still had personality; you can watch the chefs prepare your sushi; and the house red wine was remarkably delicious. But I came here with an old friend, and we wanted to talk a while. We started dining at 7.45, and at 9.30, our waitress came over, corked our bottle of wine, and put it in a to-go bag for us, all on her own initiative. I could understand this aggressive let's-make-clear-this-table-has-overstayed-its-welcome approach if the restaurant was full, but almost every table was open. The restaurant definitely made the evening memorable for us -- but probably not in the way it hoped to."

  • "I have loved Lima/Fujimar for some time. However, this was my first time at Fujimar since they starting specializing in sushi. I went to celebrate and congratulate a friend on her new employment and we tried a few of the speciality, decadent suishi dishes. Everything was delicious. I also tried the red sangria, which was absolutely wonderful (it sneaks up on you). It was probably one of the best red sangria's I've had at a DC restaurant. Overally, it was a good dinning experience. I will try it for lunch in the near future."

  • "I had a rainbow roll that was fine. My friends ate from the non-sushi selection and all were disappointed. Maybe a good place to go for drinks and an appetizer. Atmosphere was nice, low lights, big comfy chairs, friendly staff."

  • "We booked a dinner reservation here last night when staying in the city and craving some sushi. My husband loves it, and I prefer the hot dishes so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the interesting menu. What a great asian fusion restaurant. The couple next to us used a groupon, which seemed to be a good deal as well. Will go back here next time in DC!"

  • "Before we even came to DC, I already looked at the website to see if the menu is good for the whole family. When we arrived to the site we can't find the restaurant right away. It was upstairs from a bar called Lima. The place was romantically lit and the hostess was putting together a table that nobody was there for yet. No greetings to us after 5 mins of waiting. We had to approach and ask the bar tender where the hostess was. As we look at the menu, it was different from the website menu. The kids didn't find the entrees and appetizers they wanted. They ended up ordering something else and it was ok. If you want quality and really good sushi-- this is not the place. Although the beef short ribs with sweet ponzu sauce was amazing!"

  • "I used to eat at Fujimara before and I even had my favorite cocktails on the menu. When I went this time, the menu had totally changed, my cocktail not on there anymore, and the quality of the sushi has become mediocre. The hostess was really really bad at what she does. She couldn't find our reservation and accused us of not having one because she happened to be looking at the wrong date. And au lien of apology, she said someone changed her calendar. I am not sure why anyone will not train their staff the basics of their job. Needless to say this is the last time I will visit this place. Our waitress, whose name i don't remember, was exceptional!"

  • "My friends and I had a lovely time at my Birthday Dinner! The Sushi was A++mazing and the service was great as well. It was also a plus to go to the dance floor and dance for a little bit after dinner without getting stepped on! Awesome time. Will go back for my Graduation Dinner!"

  • "Looking for awesome late night Sushi?! You can't miss with Fujimar! Along with better than excellent service, a great fun atmosphere that I can definitely recommend without reservation! I rarely experience this level of professionalism and hospitality from restaurant/club personnel - across the board!!!"

  • "I was there for my wife's Birthday. We had such a great time. After eating dinner we went to the lounge down stairs and had a really great time down there as well. We can't wait to go back. :)"

  • "Food is pretty good. Service is friendly albeit slow at times. They could have been slightly understaffed on the night that I went. But overall it was a pretty good spot. I like how they have cameras that show the sushi chefs stations preparing all the sushi."

  • "Being from out of town, I felt lucky to land a reservation through OT for a Monday night at this DC restaurant. On arrival, we are informed that Fujimar is closed on Monday (c'mon Open Table!) and you must dine in the downstairs bar, Luna. We are assured that the menu is the same. Not. But the service is lacking, the bar is loud such that the waitstaff took a couple tries to get our order right. Honestly, the kitchen is not the A-team on a Monday. Was not the menu from the website, was not the meal we expected. With the exception of the fried rice, the food was a small step above a food court. Fujimar should not be allowed to advertise on OT that it is open on Monday. It is not. The bar is open, and the menu is different."

  • "my group and I had a great time! i love lima for brunch and wanted to share with my friends that recently moved to dc. my only recommendation would be to let guest of when things (i.e. bottomless mimosas at 4pm) beforehand. we would've booked our reservation earlier than 3pm if we were privy while making the reservation. Service was great and was very efficient with our needs. will be back in the future!"

  • "I RSVP'd at this venue b/c of their sushi. However when I arrived at the venue on Valentines day I was informed that they were using a preset menu. You were only allowed to order sushi if you ordered the preset menu. The website made NO MENTION of a preset menu. Had I known this I would not have booked here. Although the preset menu was decent, I would have preferred if the venue listed the menu on the website prior to my RSVP."

  • "Went for Valentine's Day. The romantic atmosphere was great. The service was a little slow, but the waitress was very friendly and showed she was trying very hard."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the ambiance at Fujimar. The food (once we finally got it) was good. The place has a modern, hip, city vibe but the service was terrible! We had a 8:30pm reservation and were seated at 9:45pm and served our food at 11:00pm. It was Valentines day so I expected some delay but this was a bit out of hand. The staff was conscious of the problem and made amends so I will go back and try them on a normal night. There is a fun, small night club located on the lower level."

  • "My husband and I were in DC for a long weekend. We found this restaurant with the Open Table app. We really enjoyed the food."

  • "We had to wait an awfully long time for our drinks as they only had one bartender working. My reservation was at 8:30 for for 12 people for dinner, our main dishes didn't come out til 11:30. However, excellent quality of fish; being from Hawaii and knowing that the finest and freshest fish from my native state are being flown in daily is quite impressive. The food is remarkable. The waiter was friendly and courteous. Great ambience."

  • "I choose this Resturant for a dinner date with a friend who enjoys good food as well as me. I made the right decision b/c we both enjoyed."

  • "But that's also to say, it wasn't spectacular. The crunchy salmon roll and peruvian fried rice was good but nothing special. Although their Spanish flan was excellent!!!"

  • "if you want a variety of maki, niguri and sashimi, look no farther. Prices in the 10-19 range for rolls of maki that are large and film of flavor. one is certainly enough if you share an appetizer. you watch the food being made via television in the well-designed restaurant. drink prices are way too expensive for the size (12-17 for a standard low-ball house cocktail), but are very good. be prepared to drop about $80-100 for two people easily."

  • "I plan to go back because I want to see if the excellent sushi was a fluke. I was there on a Monday night. Not very busy and unfortunately I could smell smoke coming from the heated tent outside the front door where the smokers sit. They have a great happy hour deal -- half price on beer and wine and deals on sushi and ceviche shots. The tuna ceviche shot was truly excellent. All the fish (except for my redux order of hamachi) had vivid and deep flavor. Best sushi I've had in a while and I am picky. Service was spotty. Nice server but not always around when you needed her. I will definitely go back."

  • "We dined here on a Saturday night. We arrived around 10.45 and they seated us immediately. They had a large private party in the back so we got seated by the sushi bar - which turned out to be the best seat of the night, so I LOVED It. We had a good selection of regular menu items and sushi, the calamari would have been extremely delicious - if it was't super cold. Bummer. The sushi is very close to Zentan or Hamilton quality, spectacular and worth the money! Another pleasant surprise, they had a performer (Late Night Alumni) which was fantastic, if you know Kaskade, house music you know know what I am talking about. They definitely should advertise more or get a good promoter since the ambiance is great and should have more people here."

  • "I've been to Fujimar several times and I have to admit that the food on Halloween was not up to par per their usual fresh and well crafted sushi. Was a bit disappointed but the service was excellent."

  • "Fujimar is a noisy bar, not an actual restaurant. Food is much below average. The menu they gave us last night didn´t have 80% of the dishes included on their web page. Either for a drink or dinner, go somewhere else."
    Dined on 10/11/2013
  • "It would have been nice to know this before making the reservation. Lima, the bar downstairs was open. But the bar-like atmosphere and appetizer menu did not measure up expectations having dined at Fujimar 3-4 times in the past. Our waitress informed us the restaurant would be closed for about 2 more weeks."

  • "This Latin American Asian fusion restaurant is one of the few places you'll see sushi and empanadas on the same menu. Start with ceviche or the guacamole... very chunky, but very good. Can't go wrong with the sea bass, the spicy Thai shrimp, or any of the sushi rolls. Wash it down with a regular or passionfruit mojito for good measure."
