Diner Reviews
  • "We arrived at 7:30pm so we had a beautiful day & nighttime view of Long Beach. We sat outside & it wasn't crowded or noisy. Our server Courtney was very pleasant & on top of everything. The bread & olive oil dip and water arrived timely. Had the sampler appetizer, it was perfect. Our entrees were also delicious! We didn't have dessert, always need to watch the calories. Our dining experience was perfect! The only drawback is getting to the location. Pay very close attention to the signage for "restaurant" access."

  • "We went for brunch, were seated at one of tables by the water. We were totally in the sun for about 10 minutes, then by the time we went up for our first course, the shade had covered 25% of our table, and in 1/2 hour, we were in the shade. The view was just awesome. The server was first rate - attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. We like the way they do brunch, with the buffet cold courses and your choice of entrees made just for you, then the dessert buffet. Great food, wonderful view, and good service. This was a surprise treat!"

  • "I have Always wanted to visit Fuego and I am so glad I finally did. The ambiance was romantic and the views spectacular. The restaurants is beautifully decorated. Definitely recommended to family and friends."

  • "Love to go to Fuego as it is the best view and ambience in Long Beach. It is such a pity the food is always so average and expensive. Ambience is worth the price but the food needs to kick it up. Eaten most everything on the menu. The ceviche and salads are by far the best things on the menu. The plain guacamole is fine but the special guacamoles are not at all worth the price. Most of the food is bland. Had the carnitas last night which were dry and not flavorful. Everything is edible and adequate just not up to even my own cooking and not at all up to the price."

  • "I went here for my anniversary. The view, food, and service were great. We are very happy we came to Fuego. It was great being so close to the water, yet it was still quiet and relaxing."

  • "Fuego has a great view of the Queen Mary and Long Beach. The food was good and there were some unusual affordable wines on their list. They were generous with tastings to select the wines we liked before ordering, even suggesting a lovely Petite Petit. The only drawback was the slow service. We had to change tables due to miss-seating us. After we moved, it took close to 30 minutes before waitstaff checked in with us for drinks and ordering. Even after we ordered wine, it seemed like a longtime before the drinks came and more time before our order was taken. Once all was accomplished, food arrived promptly and it was a lovely evening."

  • "This is a great place for food and drinks. The outdoor patio has a great view of the harbor and has a very hip "Miami" feel to it. Very good Margaritas also. It is my favorite place in Long Beach"

  • "Waterside table on a warm and clear day, wonderful service and a delicious meal - it doesn't get a whole lot better than this. The guacamole was just right, my steak salad (made for me off menu) was fresh and very tasty, and I was told the grilled salmon was amazing. The outside patio at the Fuego-Hotel Maya is spectacular! My only complaint is that the tables tend to wobble, so be careful with your drinks. It is a bit pricey for my budget, which puts it on the special occasion list. I can honestly say that I've never been disappointed when I've dined here."

  • "We met friends from our if town here for brunch. The food was decent, standard brunch fare, but executed well enough, but nothing to write home about, however the setting could not have been better. The restaurant was not busy and we were left to visit for the better part of 5 hours overlooking the harbor and long beach while soaking in some sun. It was exactly what we were looking for. "

  • "Last time I ate at this restaurant we were inside (because it was cold outside) and the noise level was very high. This time we ate outside and it was perfect. The view was outstanding and there was no noise at all. Beautiful evening and perfect place to celebrate a birthday. Sevice was fantastic. "

  • "We decided to try Fuego for Mother's Day brunch and I was so impressed. The food was excellent! As we all know, those holiday prepared buffets can be truly horrible because the chefs are preparing so much good for so many people. Fuego did a spectacular spread of seafood, oysters, jumbo shrimp and cold foods. Then they had a prime rib carving station, yummy lamb chops and bottomless champagne. Although it was a bit loud because the brunch was sold out, the view and setting more than made up for it. Wonderful. So impressed."

  • "THIS IS DEFINTELY HIDDEN! ITS NOT EASY TO FIND THIS RESTAURANT. BUT ONCE THERE, YOUR FORGET ALL ABOUT THE DRIVE. THE AMBIANCE WAS LIVELY, FUN AND ENERGETIC. THE CALAMARI APPETIZERS WERE AN EXCELLENT STARTING DISH. IT WAS NOT OVERLY BREADED, THE MEAT WAS TENDER, AND WELL SEASONED. HOWEVER, I FOUND THAT MY SEAFOOD CREPES WAS A BIT ON THE SALTY SIDE. IT WAS O.K., BUT THE PRICE WAS TOO HIGH. OVERALL, I HAD A GREAT TIME WITH MY MOM. SHE SEEMED TO ENJOYED HERSELF A LOT! "

  • "We had a great time at brunch this past Sunday. Food was fabulous and service was great until we all got up to go for the desserts when we arrived back at our table it had been cleared. It took a couple times to get water, napkins, silverware and a mimosa back but once we were taken care of it was fine."

  • "From the first time you walk in you are taken by the azazing view. Overlooking the Pacific and the Queen Mary, this modern stylish restaurant feels very welcoming. The outdoor seating is vast and is perfect even if it's a little chilly outside. The food is excellent. I highly recomend the ropa vieja, soooooo good. If you are ever in the area you have to stop in and try Fuego!"

  • "Came in with a friend at 8:36 place was empty inside but a few couples and families were dining out on the patio and as well as that one guy you always see alone. The view and ambiance is perfect while a little on the cold side it felt great to be outside next to the ocean drinking a beer and enjoying the food. The lamb i had was a little too gamey and tasted just like lamb which is fine but i didnt enjoy that. I then settled for a burger and fries which was real good. I actually ended up having to get back to work later that night so i took the fries and burger to go. Next time i'll take more time and try new dishes."

  • "Fuego at the Maya is a bit hard to find, but definitely worth the effort. Just crossing the bridge to the Queen Mary side of the harbor makes one feel worlds away. The entire restaurant is lovely, but the outdoor dining area is nothing short of spectacular. We came for Eat LBC week and were impressed with the food and atmosphere. I particularly loved the Sopes appetizer. That, and a couple of cocktails, was really all I needed. The only problem we encountered was with the pacing of the meal. I was barely halfway through my sopes when the servers brought our entrees. I had to ask them to hold the plates until I finished. Really? Do they need to turn the tables that quickly? Despite the blip in service, we'll likely be back."

  • "If you want to go to a place with amazing service, extraordinary food selections, and breathtaking ocean views, you should definitely give Fuego a try. My boyfriend and I went for a date night recently and asked to be seated on the outside patio. The ambiance is great and this restaurant offers the best views I have seen thus far in Long Beach. We ordered the corn sopes as an appetizer, followed by the pollo a la plancha and the ropa vieja. Both were amazing. I highly recommend this as a nice splurge from traditional dining."

  • "Great Food, delicious drinks, friendly Service and Magnificent City View. Enjoyed the music which was at perfect noise level to where you can still have a good conversation during Sunday Brunch. Highly recommended for either a couple or group. Just make sure you get proper directions, can get lost or pass turn easily."

  • "Great food overall as well as the service. The only problem was the plantains were undercook. That was one of the main reasons I picked the ROPA VIEJA dish. I did appreciate the attention my wife and I received from the staff congratulating our night."

  • "I was at Fuego on Friday on 3/28/14. It was a lovely afternoon with my two friends. We arrived on time and were seated immediately in the outside dining area. This is where everyone should sit....with a beautiful view of the Long Beach harbor. I ordered the appetizer Ceviche with Edamame. It paired well with the guacamole, chips and salsa. The flavors were light and fresh. The service was great. Added bonus: A sea lion decided to sunbathe on the dock while we enjoyed our lunch."

  • "I took my Sister and friends to the Latin Sunday Brunch. We had such a great time! The food was excellent, with so many delicious choices, there was something for every palate. I loved my steak and eggs entree choice, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The gorgeous grilled chilled veggies and ceviche display were fantastic! The ambience and Latin band added a special feel that really sent the afternoon to a magical note. Would recommend this brunch to all. Thank you for a wonderful day at Feugo;}}"

  • "Was attending an Expo nearby and wanted to avoid the buffet food at the seminar. Great food - very fresh and creative. Loved the outdoor dining area as well. It was a fun atmosphere without being too loud for good conversation."

  • "Fuego is delightful in both view, wait staff and food. We went for a birthday celebration and it was charming and fun. There was music, and the outside part is actually warmer than the inside due to the heat lamps. In addition to the wonderful food you can choose on the buffet line, you also order an entree, so you absolutely have food to take home if you can't finish it. Hotel Maya is a little hard to find, but once there, there is no disappointment."

  • "Nice view of downtown Long Beach. My wife and I decided to try it out based on a referral from our son who lives in Long Beach. As mentioned in previous reviews, it is a bit confusing to find but it wasn't a deal breaker. We were looking for a bit more of a vibrant dining scene but it just wasn't happening that night. The staff was nice but a bit indifferent. Overall a nice "hotel" restaurant but I wouldn't go out of my way to get there with all of the other great choices across the harbor. If anything my wife and I found a cool hotel (The Mayan) that we may check out for a weekend getaway."

  • "We wanted an outdoor restaurant with a view to spend our California Christmas eve dinner and found Fuego to be an awesome place just for that. Food was delicious, service was great and the venue with Queen Mary and downtown Long Beach views was fabulous. And the outdoor fire pit in the background was fun. Thanks! We'll see you in the new year!"

  • "I was really surprised that such an amazing location didn't have a more varied menu and better pricing. 3 tacos and plain white rice. No salsa was offered, nothing further for $16. That patio and bar was WAY too empty for what you have there. The servers were tremendous, but you need to adjust that menu and adjust those prices a bit for an excellent place."

  • "Service left a bit to be desired. They forgot us. I had to go to the hostess to get our waitress and they never mentioned to her that we had been sutting for 20 minutes. She did her best to make up for it however, but in general the servers seemed overwhelmed."

  • "I take visitors and friends to Fuego all the time. Great view. Great service. Great food. It's a real treat to go there, and it's not super expensive. This time, we watched a dolphin swimming in the water from our table! The first-time driver will find the route to get there seems circuitous, but if you follow the "Maya" signs, you'll get there. And after the first trip, you'll know how to get there from now on."

  • "Looking back over the lights of Long Beach at evening is beautiful. The seafood crepes were good but the serving small for guys with appetites. The chicken I had was very good. I don't remember any holiday decorations though...."

  • "Not good service. We saw our waiter (Kelly) 4 times out of the two hours we were there dining. Our waiter was servicing a party of 20 as well as our table and we did not get the service we would expect for the price we paid for our meal. We had to flag our waiter down to order our food, additional drinks and our bill. The menu was not he same as advertised on the web nor were the prices.. I would only return because the food was good and the ambiance near the water was nice."
    Dined on 12/6/2013
  • "While I would recommend the restaurant for food and drinks, I would also include that the service was unacceptable. The waiter's assistant kept coming to ask if the food he was carrying from the kitchen was for our table ... several times. Although our waitress stopped by at appropriate times, she seemed distracted and detached. The interactions of staff were noticeably strained. The noise level in the bar was such that I could not hear the maître D. I asked for a table where there was no noise. Suggest that you consider the levels for drinking at the bar which should be different than the level for dining. Patrons should be able to have a table conversation and not have to shout to one another. Thank you listening."

  • "The Fuego restaurant is a great place for any meal. We ate outside, which was warmer outside then inside. We had the seafood crepes which were great. The views overlooking Long Beach are fab. I highly recommend it to anyone"

  • "The view was fabulous. The food was good (but way overpriced). Our waitress was busy but attentive. The problem, which overshadowed all of that, was the slowness of the kitchen. It should not have taken almost three hours to eat dinner when the place was only half full. If we go again it will be for lunch or happy hour, and if I recommend it to a friend, it will be with a warning about the slowness (particularly galling since parking is free for only two hours)."
