Diner Reviews
  • "I have visited Frog's Leap many times. This visit equalled or surpassed my previous visits. My out of town quests were imoressed with the atmosphere, service and food. I would always be glad to recommend this restaurant to anyone who asked."

  • "Our reservation was at 2:15, which is when we arrived in downtown Waynesville. Parking was difficult. Got a horrible stare when we walked in the door, then we were scolded for arriving late. I thought it was close to 2:15, but no, "it is 2:26", she said with a hiss. I asked her if she wanted us to go elsewhere and she said, no but please order quickly the kitchen closes at 2:30. We hurried with decisions and placed our order. Two of us ordered a side dish of collards that were so hot we could not eat them. Too bad, kitchen's closed. We won't be back. Haven't felt that unwelcome in a restaurant in quite some time."

  • "One hopes to find that "special place" where the food is always good and the service always comes with a smile. A place that does not have to be the cheapest place or the most expensive, but a place where you are almost grateful to pay the bill and tips are a pleasure to add. Frogs Leap Public House is such a place for me and everyone I have taken there. Whether it is one of their regular items or one of the seasonal specials, there just don't seem to be any disappointments. It has the atmosphere for romance and for a get together with an old friend. It is a place to go and celebrate good news and to ease the shock of bad news. A truly fabulous find in Waynesville, NC."

  • "My husband and I always make reservations here when we're in the area. The menu changed from our last visit. I wasn't very hungry so I got a Caesar salad. My husband commented on me getting 'just a salad' at this restaurant. Well, this wasn't just a salad. The grit cake croutons, crispy onions, and buttermilk Caesar dressing set this salad apart. I was very pleased. I also ordered the 'smoked' Mac and cheese but was disappointed. There was little 'smoke' and it wasn't creamy. My husband had the Cajun pasta and raved about how it was the best pasta dish he's had in quite a while. The spiciness of the shrimp, chicken, and sausage melded with the creaminess of the sauce was wonderful. The brownie dessert was a chocolate lovers dream."

  • "My boyfriend and went out of our way to get lunch here at a recommendation from his parents, and we were not disappointed. He got shrimp and grits, which was a bit more stew-like than either of us expected, but he absolutely raved. I had the 7 cheese grilled cheese, which was a scrumptious blend of local cheeses. We shared Parmesan truffle fries, which were the best fries I have ever eaten and highly recommend. FLPH really emphasizes using local/fresh ingredients and you can tell by the flavors and quality of food. It was absolutely delicious, and not too pricey either!"

  • "Great food. Locally sourced and fresh. Excellent atmosphere and service. Reasonable pricing. We loved this place!"

  • "The food and service was excellent. We were a little shocked when there wasn't enough menus available for our party of 4, since the restaurant was not filled to capacity. The menus were printed, it seems, daily and in house and attached to a clip board. We will come back again the next time we are in Waynesville to try more of this exceptional dining experience."

  • "Excellent food and service, surprisingly so in a small, "Southern" town. Every item we had was superb, from the appetizer to the entree. I highly recommend the Goat cheese puffs, the filet sliders, and the Shrimp & Gtits. Reaonably priced, quality wines as well."

  • "My husband and I like to get away spontaneously to putter around, eat great food and drink great wine for a few days. A few months ago, we selected Waynesville, NC based on a few recommendations. What a pleasant and relaxing surprise! We thoroughly enjoyed the quaint town, and dinner at Frog's Leap was a definite highlight for us. Convenient location in town...relaxing environment...quality service...nice wine selection...and INCREDIBLE food! I ordered the shrimp and grits - too yummy; and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the blackened/wood grill chop - both dished cooked/seasoned to perfection. But, the real treat? The curry mussels are a MUST HAVE! Thanks for the experience, Frog's Leap...BRAVO! We WILL be back. :-)"

  • "this place totally exceeded all of our expectations... from the shrimp and grits to the rhubarbatini, awesome to say the least and our waitress was amazing, can't wait to dine here again, a little pricey for your average dinner but worth every penny. Running an organic farm myself, I'm a big fan of the farm to table concept."

  • "The filet was the best I've ever had. So long as it is on the menu, I won't have to peruse it for my choice."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Food was great as was the service. I wished our wait staff had been a little more descriptive when we asked about sharing appetizers. We ended up with an all fried collection of items. The noise level is always a little high but not enough to keep me from going back."

  • "On this visit to FLPH, I found the experience much less satisfying than my prior one. The service was just fine as it had been before, but the food was not at all as good. Perhaps it was that I mistakenly tried a new special, the lobster and monkfish americaine. The sauce was decent; otherwise the potatoes were way undercooked, the amount of fennel was excessive, the monkfish lacked taste and the lobster portion was skimpy. As I have seen in other reviews, there is a disconnect between the reputation of Frogs Leap Public House and what it actually delivers. There are more rewarding options in the area."

  • "We invited another couple to dine with us at Frogs Leap Public House. Our guests came separately and were 20 minutes late arriving. In addition, they had a tight timeline and needed to be finished eating in just over an hour. The staff and kitchen at Frogs Leap were very accommodating and met all our requirements. The food was great, to boot!"

  • "The best part about dining at Frog's Leap Public House is that most of the food they serve comes from local farmers and business...and the food is wonderful!"

  • "The food was amazing and the service impeccable! This was by far the best restaurant in this area. We had a late dinner reservation at 7:45 and was able to spend ample time enjoying many courses and asked to split an item from the supper menu and it was done so nicely and with no hesitation. I would come back and will because there is so many wonderful menu items that I want to experience them all. The libations were also unique and well done. We are foodies and have eaten in many a nice restaurant from Charleston, SC to Asheville, NC and this restaurant and experience is by far in the top 3!"

  • "I tried the Sunday brunch menu for the first time this past weekend - the quail egg & sausage sliders (recommended to me by the server) were excellent! The sweet potato fries that came with them were delicious and a nice flavor counterpoint. Great service as always!"

  • "This restaurant is the very best I've ever eaten at. The food is farm to table and there are SO many options. Go quickly:-)"

  • "Starting with the welcome at the door, to our wonderful server, Mary Kate! to the incredible meal (I started with the mushroom soup and had the scallops for my entrée - I like that they have "Small Plates" to share or enjoy yourself) My boyfriend had the trout, which was absolutely prepared perfectly! I tried the Parmesan grit cake as a side and it was so good!! The finale was the strawberry cheesecake (recommended by Mary Kate) and it was fabulous! I had made reservations in advance when I knew we were coming to Waynesville (one of our most favorite towns in the mountains!) We had been to Frogs Leap before, and I didn't want to miss another chance to dine there! The Manager came over and welcomed us and thanked us for coming back!"

  • "If you love Asheville's food scene but not its crowds and prices, make the short drive to Waynesville and be blown away by the creativity and attention to detail at Frogs Leap. Local cheese, meat, honey, and other fresh ingredients are thoughtfully balanced and presented in generous (but not ridiculous) portions. The artisan cocktails are unique and priced fairly. You can bring your kids and wear jeans, yet the atmosphere is also rustically romantic. A sweet hickory aroma from the open pizza oven pervades the dining room. Try the goat cheese - pistachio bonbons! [QPR = Quality-Price Ratio]"

  • "The menu is incredible - we ordered so much food! We want to drive back up from Atlanta to eat the other half of the menu! Suggestions: Hush Puppies with Pepper Jelly, Three Little Piggies (pork belly, pulled pork, bacon jam on a Johnny Cake), Trout Supper (with haricots verts and sweet potato hash), and Meat Loaf Supper (with mac-n-cheese and collard greens)."

  • "First time in this establishment, made a half hour drive to try it, was well worth it. We will back. Mary Kay was an excellent server. It is very popular, would recommend reservations. "

  • "I really like this restaurant. I like the decor, the seating , the flower boxes outside of the windows, the seasonal change of the menu, and unusual cocktails. I recently had the portabella mushroom sandwich and the only negative thing I can say is that it was a little too messy. My mother who's a bit "country," wished there were less extravagant dishes for those with less adventurous palates. "

  • "Our first time in Waynesville, for the day. The food and atmosphere were very nice, but personally we enjoy a brighter interior for a restaurant. Was not as bad once our eyes adjusted to the dimness. Would return to try other menu items. "

  • "Outstanding from beginning to end. In someways glad we have to drive 40 miles to get there. Otherwise we would eat there a lot. "

  • "Had a delicious brunch on Mother's Day - nice that they take reservations for a party of 2 on a busy day! The parmesan truffle fries were a must have, recommended by a friend - they were outstanding! Mimosas with fresh squeezed orange juice. Always an interesting, farm to table menu using local produce. Upscale restaurant - felt like we could have been in New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta or any other main city - but here we were in our own little town of Waynesville, NC:)"

  • "I have eaten in Waynesville several times, but never tried Frogs Leap. Now I wish I had been before. Really love the ambiance and decor. The food and the service were both fabulous. I do wish the local/craft beer selection was more robust. I'll definitely be back."

  • "We have eaten at this restaurant a half dozen times, it always exceeds our expectations. The menu is constantly changing and the chef has a tremendous imagination. We have been fortunate to have Meagen as our tour guide on our culinary excoursions through taste town. She has been spot on with her recommedations. We will continue to dine here every chance we get. We have eaten at restaurants all over the country and this one remains in our top 10."
