I had high expectations for Frog and Snail after having been to Sprout several times, so perhaps New Years Eve wasn't the time to go for the first time. The place was depressingly empty, so that should have been my first clue that the experience would be less than stellar. The fixed menu should have been my second clue. By the time the second course came, we were ready to go. Bottom line, way too expensive for average (but incredibly complicated) food. Stick with Sprout, especially for special occasions.

Great tasting food, however small menu. Service was fine and kudos to them for offering a non-alcoholic drink (ginger soda and juice) that was beyond the usual, for my pregnant wife. Thankfully they had booth seating in back as the high tops up front were discouraging. The restaurant's space is a bit odd in decor, and also the music was all over the map, however mostly good, it was a strange mix. I think they'd be busier if they expanded menu a bit and dimmed the lighting and played a better mix of music to set the mood. It just feels a bit odd otherwise.

Everything was perfect. Friendly, attentive, but never nosy service. A simple and non-tapas (I hope that trend goes away fast) focused menu. Fresh, delightful, original dishes that constantly played with flavors and textures. Oh, and prices that your pocketbook will appreciate. Started with the truffle dumplings (wife hates cauliflower, loved this dish). Continued onto the Chicken Saltimbocca for my wife and the Duck for me. Both were exceptional. My duck fell off the bone. Finished with desert that I can't recall the name of, there was white chocolate mousse, grapefruit (ugh, grapefruit), and a few other things. It was as good as the rest of the meal. Very highly recommended!

I've been wanting to try the Frog and Snail for some time but have been put off by reviews of folks noteing half the menu wasn't available. When I arrived I was prepared to be disappointed, the only thing they didn't have was the chocolate covered pretzels on the dessert menu, so on my night the menu was a go however we didn't have dessert because of the pretzels not being available. I chose the pumpkin soup and the dumplings. The dumplings where amazing but the soup was just so so. For the price I would have expected more. I wanted to ask for salt and pepper, but didn't find staff to ask while eating it. The menu is small and pricey, around $18 a dish.

We went here after attending a play at a local theater. Food was good, interesting menu and well presented. Service was good although the person that seated us was a bit snippy (He was a waiter not the hostess who was seating another party). Reasonable prices and nice portions. I good dining option for this area.

My experience at Frog and Snail I would say was just average compared to other restaurants that I have eaten at in Chicago, and In the country... Saying that me and my family love to watch the show Top Chef, and when were in other cities we try to go to a "Top Chef" restaurant. Now one of my new favorite food is snail, and last night I got the snail appetizer, it was good but not as good as the escargot ravioli from Girl and the Goat. the sauce that it was served in was good but like I said it did not compare. Now for the salad course, my friend got the beet salad. Before she ordered she specifically asked if the beets were fresh. When she got the salad you could tell that they were canned beets, and the waiter told her that they were fresh.

I ate here with a friend, and tried the frog legs with fried green tomatoes. Nice crispy coating, but still taste like chicken. My frien's chicken was a little salty, but my beef stroganoff was great. The butternut squash creme brule was awesome. You would never know you were eating squash. Nice wine selection and good cocktail list. The restuarant was pretty empty which is sad, as this place is a gem.

Very pleased with this unique eatery. Yes, there are frog legs on the menu - with a spicy, green chile infused "frog sauce" - but that's only the tip of the iceberg. The Scottish salmon was perfectly prepared, with a leek, white bean and brussel sprout bed that sang with flavors. The beef stroganoff was prepared with braised boneless short ribs in a savory madiera sauce with homemade noodles. Luscious! The granny smith apple dessert was unbelievable, while the lemon cake parfait was okay, not great. A modern casual ambience and gengerally attentive wait staff topped off an excellent meal. We'll be sure to return.

very spotty service detracted from the excellent food. We waited 12 minutes for our drinks, only to be told they were out of an ingredient. One of us reordered something else - and then we both waited another 6 minutes for the drinks, which arrived after the entrees. Great salad Lyonnaise, pleasant pumpkin soup. The flavor of the steak frites was excellent, but the hangar steak was very tough. I usually prefer hangar to flatiron or other cuts, but this was hard to cut. Once in the mouth, the flavors married well with the blue cheese and mustard bearnaise. Not sure we'll be back though, because of the service.

We hadn't been to Frog & Snail for a while and figured we'd go back with some out-of-town friends. I'm sorry to say they've entered into the death spiral of cutting corners to save costs. A friend ordered the pumpkin soup as an appetizer, and that was really good, but the crostata de frutti di mare had very little seafood and the pea shoots were a mess, nearly poking my eye out. Dinner portions were really small. I ordered the roast chicken with roasted brussel sprouts. I pity the poor bird this measly chicken leg came from. I think some poor quail got into the wrong line. And a $2 charge to substitute lettuce for fries on the burger?! Come on. When we asked for some sautéed onions to go on the burger, we received enough to fill a thimble.

If you are looking for a dinner spot to mix things up, try this place out. Frog legs and fried green tomatoes has too much breading, but the escargot was a very unique take with lots of flavor. My companion enjoyed the trout. Seems too nice of a place to be on broadway. I would go back to try other dishes, but this place isn't on the top of my list. Service was attentive.

Ihad looked forward to dining here for a long time and I was very disappointed. Pretentious without backing it up. Service was slow and the waiter got my order wrong even after we had a conversation about which dish I should have. The He had an attitude when I sent the dish back. When someone gets their meal and the other person's meal doesn't come at the same time it's just uncomfortable.

Only thing we enjoyed here was the wine and beer. Our brunch dishes -- the duck hash and a turkey crepe sounded good on the menu but did not deliver. Service was worse. The waiter brought the food and soon afterwards the check without asking if we wanted anything else. The front of the restaurant is attractive with windows and a bar but the back where we were seated is is not reminded me of a diner. And it was our anniversary. Wish we'd picked another place there are many more in this neighborhood.

Based on the menu for this place i was very excited to eat at Frog N Snail. This is one of those restaurants that relies on cooking everything with tons of butter to make things taste good. There were 5 of us at brunch. We ordered 4 different dishes. None of them was good, everything mostly tasted like butter and I nixed my plan to order something to take home to the husband because it was just plain disappointing. The service was good, but I go to restaurants for the food.

I ate two dinners here over five days.....at both the service was friendly and professional, and the restuarant pleasant. At one meal I had a hanger steak that was so tough that I was difficult to cut with a steak knife (a good hanger steak should be chewy, but this one was tough!); halfway thru it, I gave up trying. Just a couple of evenings later I had the duck pierogies, and they were excellent, as was my dining partner's trout. I am hoping the inconsistency between one night and another was just the kitchen having a bad time with a particular dish, and not a sign of a decline in the kitchen or in the ingredients.

From first walking in to Frog n Snail, everything seemed very promising. The atmosphere was really great; loved the layout of the place. The service was great, very attentive. My friend and I started with the escargot, which was very good. Then came the main course. My friend and I both had Steak Frites..something any French restaurant should do very well. I had mine medium well, and my friend had hers medium rare. We both felt that our steaks were very tough and chewy, with only so-so flavor. Seemed to be a cheap cut of meat. Was very disappointed. Frites were ok, but tasted as though they could have been frozen. Was a big let down, as we both felt the restaurant had so much promise at the start.

We figured since it was called Frog and Snail we should try the legs, but it wasn't as exciting as we were hoping. It tasted like chicken, but for such a classy joint, I hoped for some specialty sauce to go with them, but the BBQ sauce tasted like sweet baby rays. It was a good experience, but wondered why we made a reservation when we had to wait 20 minutes after our arrival.

I ordered the cassoulet, which was chock full of beans, beans, beans, some duck sausage (3 very small pieces), torn chicken (mostly dark meat) and bacon (about 6 little cubes). I could only eat about 1/3 of it because after I pulled out the small amount of meat, there wasn't much left except the beans. The dish was kind of bland, too. The only time I got some real flavor was when I had a bit with bacon or the sausage on the fork. It needed salt (and I don't usually salt my food at the table!) or something to bump up the flavors. The beef stroganoff was better, according to the hubby. Beef was tender, noodles al dente. Frog legs and dumpling appetizers were also very good, I scraped off the breading as it wasn't needed.
