There are three dining rooms which can be joined for larger events or rented individually for smaller gatherings. Parties of 25 - 45 guests can reserve the secluded back dining room. Closed off from the main upstairs dining room, it provides a cozy atmosphere for private celebrations

Welcome to "Friend Of A Farmer"...made of warmth & wood. Carrie and Terry built, designed and carefully put together this cozy, country cafe. They wanted to bring back that warm country feeling, reminiscent of Terry's upbringing in a small farming town in upstate New York. The warm fireplaces, homey atmosphere, as well as all the home cooked, fresh food creates a wonderful blend. Breads, muffins, pastries & pies are baked in our own kitchen, using the freshest fruits & vegetables of the season. Please enjoy Breakfest, Brunch, Lunch & Dinner.Continued

  • "A for ambience. The fireplace and candles in the upstairs dining room were perfect for a cold windy night. The service was pleasant. The food was good but unexciting. Corn bread served at the start with chunky apple butter was a bit too desserty fo me. I like savory to start. The Caesar salad unexceptional. I had the special and the bass was perfectly done. It was a very pleasant dinner and I'd go back, but it wasn't a meal to remember."

While the prices were a little high for lunch, the food was delicious! Not an every day lunch place but definitely a place when you want a treat!"

  • "I took three of my staff to lunch this past Monday (3/17/14), one a new hire. The dining room was only half full. However, to our dismay, our meal did not arrive until 40 minutes after we were seated. After about 35 mins, we order an appetizer being so hungry. To our surprise, it arrived along with our lunch. The waiter did comp this. The room was very cold, and sitting by the window was doubly so. Diners were wearing coats and scarves. While I understand the weather was unseasonably cold on this St. Patrick's Day, the management could have placed space heaters around to make its patrons more comfortable. There was a halfhearted attempt to start the fireplace, but that was abandoned in short shrift. I expect better from this establishment."

  • "We have been going here for 22+years and can always rely on consistently tasty food that's reasonably priced. My only objection is the appetizers which I feel is overpriced for the portions you receive. I would definitely skip that next time. The eating area is very tight. After originally being offered an undesirable table at the top of the stairs and next to the bathroom/wait staff area, we opted to move. The next table, also in a corner, had new benches that were extremely uncomfortable. The owners should try sitting there for 90 minutes. Meanwhile there was an empty room available not being utilized! For the money we were paying, I expect comfort, especially since I had reservations! It will be a long time before we return."

  • "Every time I have gone to the restaurant in the evening it has always been overcrowded. The diners have to squeeze in and out of tables that are way too close together. The food is delicious and the waitstaff very courteous, but the crowding spoils it all."

I'll definitely go back and would recommend to anyone who's looking for a nice place to have lunch, a cozy dinner, but not a good spot for groups or young children unless you reserve an entire room."

  • "I have never felt so rushed at a restaurant. The food was average and is pricey but not obscenely pricey. We were literally asked to relocate to the bar after we declined to order dessert. This followed a very obviously rushed dinner, where multiple people were determined to grab our plates every few minutes. I love the decor but don't think ill ever go back."

  • "I haven't been to FOAF in a year or two, so I'm happy to report that it still is a gem in this neighborhood. We arrived early but were immediately seated. Two pre-teen kids and four adults - very well taken care of, no issues with the kids being kids, and they let us sit as long as we wanted after desserts were finished (that said, a Tuesday may not be super busy) and had no urge in getting us out the door to free up the table. The food here is different than anything else in New York. Hearty, wholesome, welcoming - reminds me of a home I actually never had. If you're in to hip or trendy, there are probably better places, but this is stable, classic, and really really good. We always pull this card out when we have guests in town."

  • "Found this place to be the perfect way to end a shopping day with friends. The food was amazing and portioned to not overwhelm. Eating a few courses is not hard to do here, so you really should! The Cider Margarita was a bit heavy on the tequila, but once the ice melted a little more was very delicious. Service was attentive, but the waiter had many tables and was had to call at times. Otherwise a wonderful meat"

Specifcally I called twice to confirm we would need a high chair and confirmed again upon arrival. Still it took 5 minutes before a high chair was brought to the table. We also had a table for 10 people that was really way too small. It was not comfortable for 10 adults."

  • "The food here is like a good home-cooked dinner. It is satisfying but not adventurous or "artistic". The sweet potato soup was simple and satisfying and the pork loin smothered in apricot sauce was perfectly edible. So don't come here to get bowled over by the food. Come here for dinner on cold nights and sit near the fireplace upstairs. The tables are crowded, but it's worth it. The prices are high for the quality of food you get, but the ambiance makes the price worth it. Go on a snowy non-weekend night."

  • "Will not return to this restaurant. Took 2 friends to a first time dinner at Friend of a Farmer. The wait staff was extremely inattentive, failing to bring and then refill drinks. Poor ability to describe menu choices. Rushed our food, bringing second salad course out before we were halfway done with the appetizer, and the main before the salads were done even after we made special mid salad request that this not occur. They "held" the main courses, apparently in a 500 degree oven for 10 minutes, and returned with searing hot dinner plates and dry, overlooked food. No attention to food excellence. Although the farm decor is charming, the upstairs tables are crushed together so tightly the neighboring table must stand to let you be seated"

Still waiting for the cornbread that every other table seemed to get. Truly got jostled repeatedly by the waitstaff as they walked by in this too-crowded space. Food looks nice, but the fried chicken entree is downright bad. Salad okay. Meatloaf good. This is the kind of packed, pretentious place that exemplifies the bad side of the NY dining scene."

  • "Food was good, prices reasonable, service efficient if lacking charm. The biggest negative is that it's too crowded! Big parties are pushed up against tables for two, no one can move their chair and the noise level discourages all forms of verbal communication! I've been there before and it didn't seem quite so tight-possibly they've added tables? Not sure I'm going back. If it was this packed and noisy on a Tuesday night at 7 pm.....not sure I want to take another chance on this sweet little spot. I do encourage others to try it though. Their commitment to good quality is evident, the wine choices are excellent, the menu is varied and interesting. If the squeeze and shout doesn't bother you, the meal is worth it."

  • "Reservation for two for dinner, and loved the chicken pot pie and the corn bread that comes with every meal! The meal would have been great however, my strict vegetarian dining mate was served the beef sliders, despite ordering (and even asking about) the vegetarian sliders. She bit into the beef sliders before realizing. I thought the service could have been much more apologetic for the severe mistake. They did end up comping us for the sliders, but we had to point out the mistake to our server twice before they did so, and it took a while after we were given our food to flag down our server."

  • "I visited Friend of a Farmer this weekend for a leisure dinner with my best friend. I was seated right on time, given the menu and asked twice what I wanted. It felt like they were already in a hurry and for a 6pm dinner on Saturday night, it was almost empty. My food came out quickly and my soup was hot and delicious. Two minutes later my entrees came out... and that's when I knew they wanted us out as fast as possible. I had to send dishes back until I finished my apps. I've come to this spot for brunch several times. The food is consistent and always a treat. But this was obviously rushed service - rest of the meal went like that until I complained to the manager who sent us free dessert but never apologized. Not sure if I would return."

  • "True to its name, the ambience at Friend of a Farmer makes you feel like you just walked into a old New England farmhouse with period furniture and bins of fresh produce as accessories. The menu was refreshing with plentiful salad choices and hearty vegetable appetizers. We loved the fish selection which offered various preparations of multiple fish. For the meat lovers, there were unusual preparations of duck and pork and the standard NY strip. The staff were patient as I waited 45 minutes for my friend to arrive and served us promptly when she did. I wish we had time to sample the desserts. Guess I will have to return for that!"

  • "The atmosphere was very homey and the food was quite good - the name is very apt. The service was very relaxed, which was nice - it wasn't slow but I never felt rushed, and that is a difficult balance to find. My only criticisms are that we were in a corner (which was great) but it was darker than the rest of the room and reading the menu was difficult, and the music was a bit too loud so we had to shout a bit to have a conversation (this could again be due to the location of the table with respect to speakers???)."
