  • "Food was great however almost to simple of a menu. Would have liked to have more options."

  • "Another recommendation from a friend that was spot on. Great service, great ambience, and great good. Very romantic spot for a romantic anniversary dinner."

  • "The food was good, but a little overpriced. The service was absolutely terrible. We (only two of us) were seated at about 7:15. It took 15 minutes for someone to take our drink (and food) orders. It took another 15 minutes after that until our drinks, salad, and bread were brought out. There were two or three different waitresses waiting on our table (one took our order, another brought our food/drinks, neither really checked in on us throughout dinner). The restaurant was busy, but by the time we left, there were empty tables around us, so I can't give them credit for being super busy and having a table slip through. Overall, it shouldn't take 1.5 hours for two people to eat dinner. Too many other good restaurants in the area to return."

  • "It's pricey, but if you are celebrating a special occasion, it is worth it. Our waitress was very friendly and took our picture when we asked her to. The food was amazing! We had the spinach and artichoke flatbread to start (amazing!) then the filet and shrimp for our main course. The mashed potatoes were possibly the best mashed potatoes I have ever had. Very soft. It was also easy to make a reservation. We walked in 15 minutes early and they got us in right away. Galena has a lot of competition in the food department, but Fried Green Tomatoes is worth going to if you're there."

  • "The service was good but seemed young and slightly awkward at times. My friends ordered the lobster ravioli which was delicious but my salmon and asparagus was pretty pitiful looking and very overcooked and dry, almost uneatable. I thought it was a family friendly restaurant so I took my 2.5 year old. We went at 5:15 so it wouldn't be too busy. Everyone was polite but there were no highchairs and the waiter seemed like he had never served a child before...ever. Most family friendly restaurants will bring out the kids meal first but this was not the case here, even when I asked for his meal to come out first. The location and ambiance were great though and I would probably go back without my toddler and try something different to eat."

  • "We had a reservation for 7' we were seated immediately, we were greeted by Ben and had some beverages delivered very quickly. He made some great recommendations, we ordered many appetizers, which were the bomb! Everyone complimented the meal, the service and it was my 60th birthday, and we were brought a huge dessert in an oversized martini glass that we all devoured how thoughtful of Ben!!! Thanks for making my special occasion even better"

  • "This was our 2nd time here and both experiences were pretty good. We LOVE Tipsy Tuesdays! $2 glasses of house wine....it may not be the best wine but it has about 15 different wines to choose from. We ordered the special app-red pepper and pesto bruschetta-delicious! My husband didnt like the sauce on the lasagne but the sausage and ricotta mix was well balanced. Chicken dish portions are small and a tad overpriced. The creme brûlée was a great end to the meal. Would definitely go back-great location and staff was very friendly"

  • "We booked this restaurant as part of our hotel stay. The food was to die for! The portion sizes were better than most places where we live. The wait staff was very friendly and professional. The food prices seemed a little high, but when you got your food it was well worth it. Ten times better than any Olive Garden or Red Lobster."

  • "The restaurant was out of the Jack Daniel's Filet the Sunday we visited - we both had "Just a Filet (6 oz.) instead. It was superbly tender, flavorful and just the right size for visitors who didn't want to take leftovers to their B & B. The mac and cheese, a substitute per my request, could have been creamier and more flavored with the gorgonzola it was said to have. Our server, Peter, was doubling as a busboy this evening but met our every need. He was charming, lighthearted and attentive. We shared the Tiramisu for dessert and it was delicious. I don't know if Peter chose an extra large slice for us because we were sharing but the portion he served us was plenty for two. We love Fried Green Tomatoes and will eat there again."

  • "Only one out of four dishes were above average. Our waiter was efficient but every time he stopped by our table and asked how the meal was tasting he was looking at other tables instead of engaging us. It was annoying."

  • "I love the appetizer choices so much that I ordered two plus a house salad as my dinner. The fried green tomatoes are delicious, and I loved the beef over mashed potatoes served in a martini glass. The house salad dressing is memorable."

  • "Food & service was great, only down side was dinner came out too soon after salads. Not enough time to relax & enjoy sour drinks & appetizers. Great waiter gave us complimentary dessert for dinner coming out too fast."

  • "excellent food, bar and service.. will travel to galena just to eat at FGT- fillet and garlic mashed were devoured by my husband and I adored the stripped ravioli... FGT is a little slice of heaven!!!"

  • "We loved the food, atmosphere, service. I asked one of the locals fir a nice romantic rsstaurant and this was recommended. Not a place for kids."

  • "My husband and I ate here last year and had the Lobster Boil Special. It was truly amazing and a great price! We told everyone we knew about it. That is why our first night back in Galena this year we decided to go to Fried Green Tomatoes again. I will say that the raw beef and caper appetizer we had was wonderful but that was as far as it went. My husband had the BBQ pork rib special. Definitely not fall off the bone. Sauce was good but meat was a little tough. I had the Chilean Sea bass. Equally as unimpressive. We had a half bottle of wine and our bill was over $100. I will say our server was very nice and attentive. Not her fault the food was mediocre."

  • "We love everything about this restaurant! The service and ambience are wonderful and the food is beautifully presented and so delicious. One cannot have a bad day in beautiful Galena."

  • "In addition to Fried Green Tomatoes my wife and I dined at two other restaurants in Galena during our July 2014 visit. Fried Green Tomatoes was superior to both. The service and atmosphere are great. The salmon with pecans were excellent. I look forward to eating there again and trying other items on their menu."

  • "The food was great had the walleye was fabulous. Had a apple martini it was good. Everyone enjoyed there food . The atmosphere was very nice. My husband and I have been a few times to visit it was very romantic."

  • "Seriously. Our waiter told us they only have ONE dish that is made in-house, and not from Sysco out of a plastic bag. We left and didn't order anything."

  • "From a seat at the bar to a terrific table we were treated with friendly faces. The food is always great. The service is consistent personal attention. We always feel very special when we are at fried green tomatoes."

  • "The food was good, but not awesome. I had the jack danials steak. It was good, The potatoes were awesome! We spent about $80 without buying any alcohol. Could have been better for the price we paid but still good."

  • "We went there for our anniversary, which was acknowledged when we arrived. The staff was friendly and we were seated promptly. The Fried Green Tomato appetizer was excellent. The tomatoes were smothered in melted cheese and placed on a "bed" of marinara sauce. The main course items were the scallops, which were very good and the lasagne, which was good, not great. Our waiter seemed to forget about us after we were served our meal. We were not asked if we wanted drink refills after, including with our desert. We were left with water that was lukewarm because the ice had melted. I believe that the restaurant is very good and should be given a shot. We will return when we are in the area and hope that we get a different server."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "We have been going to this restaurant for years because of the wonderful food and beautiful setting. The setting is still great, but the food has gone downhill to the point that we will not return. The portions are tiny and the menu has changed drastically. I don't know what has happened in the last year or so, but it is obvious that quality and quantity are not a concern anymore. Menu is that of a chain restaurant with high end prices."

  • "I recently dined at Fried Green Tomatoes to celebrate my mom's 75th birthday and my sister's 50th birthday. We were seated upstairs which seemed a bit isolating from the action downstairs as we were looking for a more lively atmosphere to celebrate. But, with that said, the food was good and the menu offered a little something for everyone. While the service was good we felt very rushed to order appetizers as well as our meal. Definitely gave our experience a feel of being forced to dine and dash."

  • "Very good for a special occasion. A little pricey and food very good but not exceptional. Waitress was very pleasant and attentive. All and all, a very relaxing experience."

  • "In a town with a score of good restaurants, Fried Green Tomatoes leads the pack. The atmosphere and décor set the scene for fine dining with an Italian flair. Several special services are available such as catering, and transportation to or from local events to the downtown location in Galena, IL, a quaint , historic location. And yes, they really do serve fried green tomatoes!"

  • "Our last visit here was 3-4 years ago, but not because of anything they did wrong. Once again our recent visit reaffirmed the quality of the food musing lots of local ingredients and straightforward preparation. Service is not up to the food but is never unacceptable. The lobster pasta and pork osso bucco were both top notch dishes at far less than big city prices. Go, if you haven't been, and I doubt you will be disappointed."

  • "We are never disappointed when we dine at Fried Green Tomatoes. The featured dish was prime rib — delicious."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "We had the prime rib special and it was delicious. Tender, juicy and very flavorful. Started with the fried green tomatoes which is a must in this restaurant. It was our anniversary so we celebrated with a bottle of champagne and were nicely greeted with well wishes from both the hostess and our server. They surprised us with a serving of creme brule which we shared. We had reservations as it was a Friday night and got in immediately."

  • "On our trips to northwest illinois, we always make a point to stop at Fried Green Tomatoes, located in a charming historic building on Main Street. The menu contains both the restaurnt's standards along with just enough new items to keep it interesting. The wine list has quite a few interesting selections. The staff is cordial and attentive."
