  • "What a wonderful dinner. The food & service made for a special evening. The chicken piccata is superb. One of the best restaurants in Galena."

  • "We loved the food, atmosphere, service. I asked one of the locals fir a nice romantic rsstaurant and this was recommended. Not a place for kids."

  • "excellent food, bar and service.. will travel to galena just to eat at FGT- fillet and garlic mashed were devoured by my husband and I adored the stripped ravioli... FGT is a little slice of heaven!!!"

  • "My husband and I ate here last year and had the Lobster Boil Special. It was truly amazing and a great price! We told everyone we knew about it. That is why our first night back in Galena this year we decided to go to Fried Green Tomatoes again. I will say that the raw beef and caper appetizer we had was wonderful but that was as far as it went. My husband had the BBQ pork rib special. Definitely not fall off the bone. Sauce was good but meat was a little tough. I had the Chilean Sea bass. Equally as unimpressive. We had a half bottle of wine and our bill was over $100. I will say our server was very nice and attentive. Not her fault the food was mediocre."

  • "In addition to Fried Green Tomatoes my wife and I dined at two other restaurants in Galena during our July 2014 visit. Fried Green Tomatoes was superior to both. The service and atmosphere are great. The salmon with pecans were excellent. I look forward to eating there again and trying other items on their menu."

  • "From a seat at the bar to a terrific table we were treated with friendly faces. The food is always great. The service is consistent personal attention. We always feel very special when we are at fried green tomatoes."

  • "The food was good, but not awesome. I had the jack danials steak. It was good, The potatoes were awesome! We spent about $80 without buying any alcohol. Could have been better for the price we paid but still good."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "We went there for our anniversary, which was acknowledged when we arrived. The staff was friendly and we were seated promptly. The Fried Green Tomato appetizer was excellent. The tomatoes were smothered in melted cheese and placed on a "bed" of marinara sauce. The main course items were the scallops, which were very good and the lasagne, which was good, not great. Our waiter seemed to forget about us after we were served our meal. We were not asked if we wanted drink refills after, including with our desert. We were left with water that was lukewarm because the ice had melted. I believe that the restaurant is very good and should be given a shot. We will return when we are in the area and hope that we get a different server."

  • "We have been going to this restaurant for years because of the wonderful food and beautiful setting. The setting is still great, but the food has gone downhill to the point that we will not return. The portions are tiny and the menu has changed drastically. I don't know what has happened in the last year or so, but it is obvious that quality and quantity are not a concern anymore. Menu is that of a chain restaurant with high end prices."

  • "I recently dined at Fried Green Tomatoes to celebrate my mom's 75th birthday and my sister's 50th birthday. We were seated upstairs which seemed a bit isolating from the action downstairs as we were looking for a more lively atmosphere to celebrate. But, with that said, the food was good and the menu offered a little something for everyone. While the service was good we felt very rushed to order appetizers as well as our meal. Definitely gave our experience a feel of being forced to dine and dash."

  • "Our last visit here was 3-4 years ago, but not because of anything they did wrong. Once again our recent visit reaffirmed the quality of the food musing lots of local ingredients and straightforward preparation. Service is not up to the food but is never unacceptable. The lobster pasta and pork osso bucco were both top notch dishes at far less than big city prices. Go, if you haven't been, and I doubt you will be disappointed."

  • "Very good for a special occasion. A little pricey and food very good but not exceptional. Waitress was very pleasant and attentive. All and all, a very relaxing experience."

  • "In a town with a score of good restaurants, Fried Green Tomatoes leads the pack. The atmosphere and décor set the scene for fine dining with an Italian flair. Several special services are available such as catering, and transportation to or from local events to the downtown location in Galena, IL, a quaint , historic location. And yes, they really do serve fried green tomatoes!"

  • "This was our third dining experience for my wife & I at Fried Green Tomatoes & as usual they did not disappoint us. The service was top-notch & the food was excellent as it was the first two times we dined there. Highly recommended if you are passing through or staying in Galena Illinois."

  • "We had the prime rib special and it was delicious. Tender, juicy and very flavorful. Started with the fried green tomatoes which is a must in this restaurant. It was our anniversary so we celebrated with a bottle of champagne and were nicely greeted with well wishes from both the hostess and our server. They surprised us with a serving of creme brule which we shared. We had reservations as it was a Friday night and got in immediately."

  • "On our trips to northwest illinois, we always make a point to stop at Fried Green Tomatoes, located in a charming historic building on Main Street. The menu contains both the restaurnt's standards along with just enough new items to keep it interesting. The wine list has quite a few interesting selections. The staff is cordial and attentive."

  • "Cute restaurant in a darling little town. We sat at a lovely corner table upstairs and the fried green tomatos were delish !"

  • "We chose Fried Green Tomatoes for our 9th Anniversary dinner while relaxing for a couple of days in small town Galena. It was the perfect ending to a beautiful summer day and the variety of food choices were excellent. Aside from me swallowing a small bone in the walleye, everything tasted great. We both enjoyed the fried green tomatoes appetizer, which we had to order being our first time here, and there were several other unique options such as squid ink pasta. We were given a free chocolate mousse dessert for our special occasion and the room was dimly lit and quiet for good conversation to reconnect."

  • "The food was amazing!! They had several "different" dishes that you just cannot find in every restaurant! My husband had the lobster ravioli & I had the scallops! The staff helped each other out constantly! My birthday dessert was incredible & such a pleasant surprise! Thank you for making my birthday celebration with my husband so incredible!!!"

  • "We have been to FGT many times and they still just keep bringing the hits. They do have some service issues, but most Galena restaurants do it seems. All and all...very satisfied."

  • "I wasn't impressed. Maybe it was overrated, and I was expecting greatness, but the food was bland for what it cost. Our server, Nick, was fantastic."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised by the prime rib, the special that evening. I am not a connoisseur by any means but I have had good and bad prime rib over the years. This meal was a delight and the service was excellent."

  • "This restaurant has a very warm and quaint atmosphere. The server approached us to take our drink order soon after we were seated. Decent choices on the menu. The warm loaf of parmesan topped bread served with olive oil was great. Steak was prepared as requested and was very tender. Osso buco was also very tender and tasty. Was unable to eat another bite, so no desert. The waite staff was extremely attentive. Will definitely go back!"

  • "Appetizer of spinach and artichoke on flatbread was good. Mushroom and Bree soup was good. Veal Parmesan was bland and pasta was way overdone. My wife had the Seabass it was underdone and mushy. I've had better food at Olive Garden. "

  • "Our waitress was wonderful but the hostess was very snippy...we preordered a "surprise" birthday dessert and the first thing the hostess did was ask who the birthday girl was when we came in. We were destressed and tried to quiet her she got upset... she never even told our waitress."
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "Had a good server, food was very good, accommodating to special requests. "
    Dined on 5/27/2014
  • "The porterhouse and osso buco were very good. Not so much with the escargot. They were topped with a flavorless garlic mash of some sort. We both scraped it off. Fried Green should return to the gorgonzola topped version which was much better. Overall, though, the meal was very good. "

  • "We celebrated our 25th wedding aniversary there last weekend. All of our kids were back and we were all floored with the experience. We were waited on from the moment we got there, service was exceptional, food was even better. Thank you and your staff for making this a great topper to a very special weekend for our family. "

  • "My wife and I went because it was recommended by a friend that had been there some time ago. The food was very bland and had little to no flavor. Portion size was on the small size. The only choice for the salad dressing was their house dressing which was not very good. The price was high for what we received. We were very disappointed and would not recommend this restaurant."

  • "The food was excellent. Bought the fried green tomato appetizers and flatbread appetizers. All six had the lamb special for Memorial Day weekend. Served with a tasty salad and delicious cheesy bread. The restaurant is pricy but worth the price. Also purchased a bottle of house red wine perfect."
