  • "We dined here for the first time July 4. My husband had been feeling ill but came with me so I could enjoy my dinner. He ordered a salad so to not sit there idol, I ordered a meal, and we both ordered a cocktail. The waitress looked at him, asked "that's all your having?" and then walked over to another man there and clearly stated, " doesn't he know you can't just order a salad at dinner time." How rude!! What a shame that left a bad taste in our thoughts about this establishment. She needs some retraining on her people skills. My swordfish was excellent. Maybe she needs a vacation."

  • "Been coming to F,S,S for more than 30 years. Still love eating upstairs, and ordering off the neon chalk board. . Service and ambiance is always great. Though the place is getting a little dated and could use a little updating. The food was definitely not up to par. Rack of lamb was a little raw and tough to chew. Duck was not as good as usual. Will write it off as an off night and give FSS another chance in the near future."

  • "Happy to give this place an outstanding review. This is one of those places that I had forgotten about because we try new restaurants when they open and tend to forget about the older places. This place is still fantastic and I am thrilled that the quality of the food has stayed the same. The ingredients are all fresh and the creations are fantastic.Nothing is overly salty, nothing overly sauced. This is a big plus for us as we experience many new chic restaurants around the city and feel we leave dying of thirst from salt. The fig and arugula salad & mixed strawberry greens salad both excellent The spinach and feta ravioli -melt in your mouth perfect. The filet mignon better than capital grill. Best Cosmo anywhere in the city! Fresh made."

The bench seating upstairs was extremely uncomfortable- it felt like it required pillows because my back was up against wood that hit at all the wrong places. If I go again I will be sure to sit downstairs on in a regular chair."

It is a neighborhood gem that keeps getting better and better. Beware that it is a very small place and that one of the rooms is located on the second floor and the steps are quite steep.   • "We were out to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We had dinner at Del Frisco's. The intent was to have drinks, dessert, and coffee here. We put that in the notes section when we booked. They left a voicemail, telling us they could not seat us that downstairs is for dinner only. That was also our greeting at the door. Our intent was to stay for a while, have some drinks, and see if it was a place where we would want to come back for dinner. While the bartender was very nice to us. The owner made us feel unwelcomed. The desserts were good, but we will not be returning"

  • "We went here for my boyfriend's birthday. I made a note in the reservation and when we arrived, the maître d' acknowledged his birthday. There was also a candle in the dessert. He enjoyed this surprise. The food was wonderful. I do wish we had ordered an appetizer as we were not quite full. The portions could be a little larger, but excellent for health-conscious individuals trying not to over eat. Overall, it is a wonderful place for a nice date and priced well. (About $100 after tax and tip for two)"

  • "I have been eating here almost since FSS opened 40 years ago--I used to live next door. It has remained one of the best restaurants in Philadelphia. Fashions and fads and their accompanying restaurants come and go. FSS stays. It is not a dress up place. It is what used to be called "funky" in some ways. The food is always excellent--good value for the money. The staff are wonderful. I never tire of eating here, and it is my destination of choice when I have out of town visitors or when there is something special to celebrate."

  • "We dine a lot in Philadelphia and can't believe we hadn't been to this restaurant before! I wanted a low key, intimate spot, good wine and great food! This restaurant was perfect! Nice wine list reasonably priced! The mushroom soup was the best! Both entrees were excellent! We're normally not dessert eaters but we split a piece of cheesecake, different but soo good!!! Service was attentive but also allowed us our privacy a perfect blend. Can't wait to go back! Felt it was a good value for quality food!"

  • "Hadn't been here in over 20 years, and glad I returned! Great setting, service, reasonably priced and extensive wine list and - last but not least - really delicious food! The crab cakes were outstanding, and among the best I've ever had. Filled with lots of crab meat and accompanied by a yummy crisp polenta. It's a really sweet, cozy and nice setting. Although tables are close, it didn't feel cramped or get too noisy. Service was really warm and professional, and the owner is clearly keeping a close eye on every aspect of this place to make sure that diners are having a good experience. We felt very cared for and our group of 4 loved each of the appetizers, main courses and desserts that we ordered. Definitely recommend. "

  • "I cannot say enough good stuff about FSS. I have been going there since they opened--which makes the both of us too old! The range, value, and quality of the food are consistently outstanding. The staff are wonderful. The bar makes really good drinks. I hadn't been in about 4 months because I have been out of the country, and when I went back most recently, I was struck by how much I miss the place. It is my restaurant of choice for any occasion, but especially with out-of-town visitors who all want to go again and again when they come back for additional visits."

  • "We came to celebrate 2 birthdays, as indicated on my open table reservation. It was a huge disappointment. First, the waitress suggested a new liquor for my husbands Manhattan, but the bartender brought the wrong one. When asked about the mistake, he snapped the drink away rudely & replaced it by slamming the new drink down on the table without a word. Our pricey meals were very mediocre & the waitress never returned to check on us. We had to flag down anyone for help. But, the 'regular' guests were attended to with a flourish and an apology. The first floor is very small, so we heard it all. We felt unwelcomed. And surprise - no candle. The overly expensive meal was completely forgettable, the service horrible, and we will never be back."
