This is more than a throwback - it is a place that has kept the ambiance of forty years ago makes it meld with current style. It seems like a nice neighborhood place to gather."

  • "This was my 2nd time at FSS, and I was even less impressed than the first time. I have no idea why this place gets good reviews. The server was unfriendly, 'on' is to order (when there was only one other party in the place), less than accommodating of my friend's simple requests (if you have any food sensitivities or special needs, they can't really help you.) The food was ok, but not great for the price. There are so many better restaurants in Center City. Skip this one."

We asked the waiter for recommendations and followed his suggestions. The mushroom soup was superb. Loved the mussels an if you like lamb, it is great!"

  • "I had a six o clock reservation and was running late and explained the situation to the host on the phone when I called to tell them I was running 30 minutes late. They were great about seating us and getting everything out to us very quickly because we had an 8 o clock show to attend. The food was outstanding, my wife and I both had the chicken tortilla soup to start and the filet mignon as the main course. The steak was cooked to perfection and was just awesome. This was my third visit to this establishment. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "My husband and I live nearby in Naval Square and have walked by many times. We finally decided to give it a try. It was a very pleasant surprise. The service was excellent, friendly, but not overbearing. I had the mushroom soup and my husband had the salad with pancetta. Both were wonderful. The soup is rich and wasn't overpureed. I could taste the small pieces of mushrooms. I had the pork tenderloin with a chili lime rub and crispy polenta. It was cooked perfectly, slightly rare, which is something most places don't get right. My husband had one of the specials, the braised beef short rib. He loved it. The wines were good quality. We will definitely go back again. The dining room could use a little updating."

  • "We had a girls getaway in the city and found this little gem. We all ordered different salads and entrees, tried each others, and they were all spectacular. Dessert was just meh. The dining room is cozy and close, but the crowd was friendly. The service was efficient, not fluffy at all, but the food more than made up for the busy hustle of the workers. Did I mention how great the food was?"

  • "Friday Saturday Sunday is an amazing restaurant! There was honestly not one dish I did not like in the whole meal-- even the bread was great! The service was really good and the atmosphere is very unique. The restaurant itself is relatively small, but each table still somehow has its own space, and many of the tables have cozy bench seats. You are served very quickly after you order, but nothing about the experience felt rushed. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, and I will be going back soon!"

  • "We have been dining here since it opened forty years ago, and it has never disappointed us! Excellent food at reasonable prices with caring service. While the menu has certainly evolved over the years, the quality has remained high. Lovely, intimate setting that doesn't seem loud even when the restaurant is fully occupied. The menu has a variety of choices, with something for every palate -- fish, meat, chicken, pasta, vegetarian. Interesting array of appetizers, and excellent desserts! The wine list is wide-ranging in terms of type, country, and price, with no bottle marked up more than $10 over the restaurant's cost. If you are tired of paying $40 for a $10 bottle of wine, this is your place!"

  • "I found out about this place through open table and by reading the reviews I chose to check it out me and my spouse went in with an open mind and came out sold. Keep in mind this is a converted corner row home so I would suggest grabbing a booth style seat for coziness and comfort they offer a full 4 course menu that you can choose from. For our date it cost less that $100 for our meal . There is a mixed crowd of old and young so be prepared for a new experience of great food, service, and atmosphere. Enjoy"

We have eaten here many times in the past, but this was the first time in a couple of years and the first time the food was not great. My meal was fine but my son unfortunately had the shrimp cocktail appetizer which we both agreed was awful and his filet was tough and under cooked."

The mushroom soup is to die for, the crispy duck the best around, the daily specials always wonderful. We have been dining her since 1975, and have never had a complaint. (Well, our only complaint is that it's no longer open for lunch!). This place is a gem."
