  • Not typical and that's a good thing

Loved it! Not being the typical (and, by typical, I mean common and monotonous) Mexican restaurant, the menu does include a lot of terms I wasn't familiar with but our waiter was happy to answer all our questions. We were undecided about an appetizer and he recommended the Ceviche de Pescado, which was very good - light and refreshing. For my entrée, I had the Filete Juan. I will definitely order it again! I don't know exactly what "Mexican soy sauce" is but I'm now a fan. The whole meal was tender and tasty, with just the right amount of heat from the jalapenos. I'm very glad I discounted all the reviews by people who didn't like it because they were expecting what they can get in every other Mexican restaurant they've ever been in.

I've been to Frida's many times for lunch/dinner and love the food, this was our first brunch visit .. their 11:00 starting time for brunch doesn't fit out schedule. But wow, their version of eggs benedict and huevos rancheros are SOOOO good. Just like almost all of their dinner items, their are deep and multiple layers of flavor that just are so much more than you're anticipating. The dishes are a bit on the lighter side but that is more of a positive than a negative and you can always fill up on their fresh chips & salsa.

They do a very nice job on the food and presentation, but just not exactly my style. It was somewhere in between Spanish style cooking like La Bodega and Mexican food, and doesn't quite hit the mark on either. The restaurant atmosphere was nice and staff was very attentive, just not my favorite menu selection.

  • A birthday visit to Frida's
    Kangaroo1
    Dined on 5/16/2014
Our table was not ready for our 7:30 scheduled dining appointment, which irked me, as I had especially scheduled a time, and personally visited the restaurant to enquire about birthday recognitions. We had to wait about 15 minutes beyond our scheduled time for a table. The food was good, but the service was slow. Overall the company made it a good evening, and I will go back again. But what schedule times if they cannot be honored?

Sunday Brunch for five people - waited at table 30+ minutes for drinks - waited another 50+ minutes for food. Owner comped all meals - that was wonderful and not necessary - the food was so delicious I did not agree to comping all meals and paid some of the bill. Will think about trying this restaurant on another day other than Sunday.

We'd been to Frida's before and thought it would be a great place for a lunch RESERVATION between soccer games. Unfortunately we waited ages to give our drink orders, the water arrived with our iced teas after we'd been seated for 20 minutes, the food order was chaotic at best with members of our party effectively being told they couldn't have what they wanted followed by our having to reorder by plate number later, long after our menus had been taken, because our waiter, who failed to write anything down, forgot our order and had to bring help to retake it. After nearly 1.5 hours our food began arriving randomly and with errors, 1 plate coming so late everyone else had already finished eating. Only half of us ever had our drinks refilled.

I've been to Frida's many times before. The service was slow & spotty. The brunch menu was disappointing and we overheard the table of 7 next to us complaining about how long it was taking for their food. They had 4 kids w/ them and when it FINALLY came out the bacon wasn't cooked and other than a slight apology NO sign of a manager and he only took the bacon off. Really? Our food was a little more timely but again bacon not cooked & really not very good. We left we a bad taste in our mouths & will not come back due to the recovery vs. the actually experience. You cannot nail it everytime but it's how you recover that matters. The server was either not trained well or clueless to cues.

This is NOT cheese drenched Tex-Mex. it's seriously good Mexican cuisine. The Mole sauce is phenomenal. Although not on the menu, they'll put it on the chicken enchiladas. Don't miss the Arroz con Pollo on the lunch menu. The best I've ever tasted.

The menu had a lot of options, and the entree I chose was excellent and very well prepared (the scallops were cooked perfectly). Although there was some issues getting our food out at the same time, our wait staff offered us desserts on the house (which were excellent!). I definitely would like to go back and try some of the other dishes.

We visited at Saturday lunch. There were few customers, yet we waited to be seated because no one was around to greet us (walls around the entry make it difficult to know if anyone sees you've arrived). Our server was pleasant, but rather disinterested, mechanical. The green rice was delicious; the rest of my food (chicken w achiote) was just ok. Nothing special. My date's chicken in mole was similar. They've done a great job with Frida Kahlo art throughout the restaurant. The books on display made me want to curl up and enjoy them. Concept is a winner, but the dining experience needs improvment..

Guacamole was great. Entrees were good, but pricey. Small portions. Service was poor, very slow. Never had our water glasses refilled. Had to ask to order, ask for water, ask for check. Made reservation for 7:45 because Open Table said that was the only time available, however when we got there, there where many tables open and available.

The service was bad, the restaurant was not that busy but I always felt like an afterthought. Ordered the "Valentines" dinner special, and everything took way longer than it should have. 5 minutes after ordering 2 glasses of champagne arrive, wait another 10 minutes then the soup comes after only 3 minutes the entrees arrive. It was not good, really makes me have second thoughts about ever going here again, too many other options.

One of our go-to's, especially for the chicken tacos. But the Queso Fundido appetizer was great as well as the rest of our dishes! The Frida's margarita is a personal favorite albeit pricey. Generally service is very good but this time just a bit off, but we weren't in a hurry so still a wonderful dinner.
