A word from Frescos Seafood Trattoria - Cape May
In the heart of the Historic District, Frescos occupies an 1880 Victorian cottage. On the candlelit veranda, or in the coolness of the Mediteranean inspired dining rooms, you imagine yourself at a small trattoria in Tuscany, or sampling the finest of local seafood at a Mediterranean cafe. From the seafood and homemade pastas of the South to the elegant sauces, meats, and veal of the North, Frescos is a culinary adventure tour of Italy. Frescos' award-winning young Chef Joseph Badger takes as his palette the incredible variety of fresh local seafood, and bountiful local produce, bringing a richness and creativity to the menu-- a dazzling display of shrimp, lobster, seafoods and pastas, and desserts that make guests exclaim with delight. One of ZAGAT'S "Top Italian Restaurants in America," and Voted "Best Italian Restaurant in Southern New Jersey 2012," by NJ Monthly. Continued

  • "overrrated. small portions disguised with the preparation. seafood salad had little seafood, seafood fra diavlo the same. ridiculous glasses for water, small tables. put us upstairs when there were tables available downstairs and we had a reservation. May be best italian restaurant in South Jersey but would be at the bottom north of the mason dixon line Rt . 195 in NJ."

  • "The shrimp were JUMBO, juicy and delicious! I'd definitely have the shrimp and feta fettuccini again. Hubby had the short rib, which was ok but slightly fatty. BYOB with no corkage fee : )"

  • "Food overall was decent but service was lacking. When weentioned that ravioli entree was not cook and pasta was hard, she said I'll let the kitchen know. Did not do anything more. No offer to bring ravioli that had been cooked, offer another entree selection, etc. Quite simply did not care. Food adequate and ambience was nice -but noisey."

  • "Frescos still has it after all these years. My wife and I first went to Frescos a LONG time ago(must be over 20+ years, I don't think we had kids yet) when we used to frequent the B&B's in Cape May. We took our kids this past Saturday night. It was as great a meal as I remembered. I had the Osso Buco which was fantastic. I appreciated that the restaurant had complementary parking in parking-challenged Cape May."

  • "Fourth of July in a popular shore destination. Was a bit apprehensive about quality of food and service because of this. No worries. There were four of us. All had a very enjoyable meal. Very nice restaurant. Not sitting on top of each other. Service was A+. All of us agreed That our food, from appetizers to dessert, was delicious. Courses well spaced, did not feel rushed at all. Would definitely recommend Frescos."

  • "My wife and I along with some friends loved dining at Frescos. The food and service was great. Reasonably priced for the food quality. I highly recommend Frescos."

  • "Ambience was great, service was good but food left a little to be desired for the prices they charge."

  • "Friendly approachable hostess sat us with no hesitation, the restaurant was packed not an empty seat in the house both upstairs and down. Ethan, our server greeted us with a smile and a detailed account of the specials, we ordered both off the menu and the evening specials. Our appetizers were the marinated seafood salad and the special raw tuna tartare. Both ample and delicious. for entrees, we shared the lamb special and the papardelle pasta with shrimp and scallops. We ate everything. The homemade pasta was cooked to perfection as were the shrimp and scallops. The lamb, as well. We managed to share dessert, a ricotta cheesecake, with fried lemon, WOW!!!! We can't wait to return to stuff ourselves."

  • "major ingredient missing from veal entrée - cheesecake desert still partially frozen although informed of our theater time 11/2 hours was not enough time to serve a 6:15pm dinner reservation - late for show one block down the street"

  • "Nothing notable. Server was odd. We were happy with the appetizers and that was it."

  • "While my wife's dish was perfect, my seafood diavolo lacked spice - no heat at all and my three scallops were over cooked. While the waiter indicated my dish was 'unacceptable" it was acceptable enough to expect me to pay for it."

  • "There must be a new chef who is cooking to an old menu, because what is served does not correlate to what is described, e.g., the veal saltimbocca is described as "sauteed veal scallopini layered with prosciutto, mozzarella, fresh sage", while the dish served was a stuffed veal chop, overcooked and of poor quality. The signature osso bucco was bland and tasteless, as was the pillow pasta appetizer which was not served in a spicy sauce as advertised. This was our first visit to Cape May, and we had chosen Fresco based on various positive website reviews. Based on our experience, their prior praiseworthy reputation is sure to nose-dive unless they take drastic action in the kitchen."

  • "Made reservation 4 weeks in advance and requested specific dining room. Upon arriving manager advised me that the room I requested was too busy. We were a party of 2. Finally after waiting for about 10 minutes he seated us in the room I requested. Room had 10 tables, some large and small but only one poor overworked waitress to cover all tables. She tried her best. Ordered Veal Saltambocca, when order arrived I questioned order as I had never seen it served as a chop, upon carving meat found it both almost uncooked and full of fat hardly any lean meat. Questioned waitress and she agreed and said another guest had complained of the same thing. She took it off the bill & gave free dessert but the manager never appeared or offered apology."

  • "Delicious swordfish entree accompanied with very fresh veggies. PLenty of lovely entrees to choice from. Good service by our friendly waiter Ethan."

  • "Fried olive appetizer was different and salad was good. The pasta my friend had was tasty. I had the ten ounce lamb shank that was not tender and very fatty. They were supposed to serve the lamb with both potatoes and snap peas. They ran out of peas, but didn't think to say anything or offer a substitute until I asked about the missing peas. They finally substituted broccoli rabe which was so tough and stringy I near choked. Terrible that a cook in and Italiam restaurant didn't know how to prepare broccoli rabe properly."

  • "Had a great dinner and service. Highly recommend the upstairs. It was quiet and romantic. Only issue we had was I asked for spaghetti instead of rigatoni on a dish and was told the chef does not like substitutions. He then added that the spaghetti would not pick up the flavor of the sauce very well. I ate the rigatoni but next time I will force the issue."

  • "I had the bolognese pasta and couldn't stop eating it! My daughter had the lasagna that was actually a personal lasagna made individually, not typical where you would see a large piece cut from a pan. Sampled hers that was also delicious. My husband and I shared a salad that was unique and had mako shark placed on top. Our first time having shark - yum! We would definitely go back. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere was very nice."

  • "I ate here last war for the first time and enjoyed it, so we went back. Unfortunately, this meal was horrible. From the appetizer with the smallest amount of crab I've ever seen to the seafood pescatore, which was bland and smelled more like seafood than it tasted. We tried to make up for it with the chocolate espresso flan for dessert but that was a bust too. Perhaps we ordered wrong, but at their prices, there shouldn't be such a thing."

  • "Excellent food from the garlic bread/salads to the entree (Tuna Medallians) to the wonderful Panacotta dessert. Ample portions."

  • "Fantastic food, not the quietest place but enough space so lean in! We feel it's not as aggressive flavor and spicing wise as neighbor 410 Bank, subtlety can be comforting. A winner worth seeking out."

  • "Frescos is one of our favorite restaurants in Cape May. We have a summer home in Cape May and have been dining at Frescos for years. The food and service are always good to great. Our experience Saturday 6/7 was somewhat disappointing. Restaurant Week was 6/1-6/8 and Frescos was participating; we made a 7:15 reservation for $25 price fixed 3 course meal through Open Table but when we got to Frescos our server informed us that the restaurant week menu ended at 6:15pm which was not on website or printed menu. Frescos honored the priced fixe menu after we protested but manager was not happy about it as other diners were also protesting."

  • "Cape May restaurant week. Advised by our server that the price fix menu ended at 6. After 5 minutes the manager honored the price fix menu. As it turned out we were not alone. Food: One type dinner roll cold & plain. Pear salad just okay not what you would expect. Calamari rings only with a bland marinara. My daughters three poor tasteless ravioli lost in an inch of gorgonzola cheese sauce. My son in laws tuna was delicious one of the best I've ever tasted. My spaghetti omunticata I sent back to be advised by the manager there were a # of complaints. My Wife's chicken marsala tasty but served with almost raw vegetables. Desert panna cotta a tasty surprise. Fresh fruit plate was really disjointed served w/stale biscotti. Hit or miss. "

  • "We went during restaurant week to try something new. I ordered the tuna medallions medium well and they came out rare. When sent back, they came out medium-rare. I could not eat it except for the very edges. The bread and salad were delicious as were the vegetables. My partner had the chicken marsala which was delicious. "

  • "We've been to Frescos before and the food was everything we have come to expect from this restaurant and we would certainly return. We sat on the intimate enclosed porch which only has six tables. Seafood Fra Diavolo was nice and spicy and their signature dish of Osso Bucco certainly held up to expectations. Lemon cheesecake with blueberry sauce was wonderful and we love that like many restaurants in Cape May Frescos is BYOB. Only downside was the inexperience of the waiter. We were enjoying vacation so his shortcomings became more of an amusement as the evening progressed. Great place but some staff needs polishing."

  • "We went for restaurant week. Very good selections. The tuna dinner was excellent, but our pasta entree was very dry and not very tasty. Appetizers were good, and our dessert for very good. I would return but I have to be honest I would not order pasta there again. "

  • "The Appetizer and my dish was very good. My wife ordered Veal Saltimbocca and received an undercooked veal chop that was not eaten. The menu described the dish as veal scallopini which is not what was served. To make matters worse when the bill came which was $83.35 I gave the waiter a $50.00 American Express gift card and $50.00 cash. He came back and said the gift card would only accept $27.00 so I gave him $23.00 more. I checked and found out the gift card was charged with $33.35 and still has a balance of $16.65. So for a bad meal the waiter got over 27% tip. We have gone to Fresco's for many years but this will be the last time. "

  • "but not the best food. it was good, but not great. the osso buco was not very tender (dry) and the "homemade or handmade" ravioli didn't seem to be, and were under cooked -- edges were very chewy. the server was extremely accommodating in every way. the lemon ricotta cheesecake was very lovely, however."

  • "Very busy night during the Memorial Day weekend; food prep at the height of the dinner crowd was a little slow but the food was very good; we would definitely go back and recomend to friends "

  • "Service was really great. Our waitress took the time to explain the specials well, checked on us often (while not being intrusive) and was genuinely nice. The food was okay, nothing horrible, but nothing particularly memorable. I had the caprese salad app - good, but needed more seasoning - and the Sunday gravy - pasta was overcooked and sauce needs to be much better (perhaps some pork, sausage, braziole, like a true Sunday gravy? Again, not bad, but not enough to recommend strongly to others."

  • "second time this week, this time for the osso buco, which has changed in use of a different pasta and sauce, but still is a wonderful combination with tender veal. Desserts and appetizers were also outstanding."

  • "We are local residents and always happy to see Fresco's open for the season! We brought guests for dinner and were pleased as always with wonderful food and excellent service. We have favorites like the fried olives for appetizer, and I tend to try specials since I know the regular menu pretty well. Any visitor would enjoy the variety of Italian favorites and seafood specialties, and BYOB keeps the cost reasonable. It's right around the corner from the local theater and an easy walk to the shopping in town and the beach. They take reservations even in the busy season, which is a must for me- too many great places available to wait in line! "

  • "The new manager has had many years on the Fresco staff, and has not yet made many changes. Service is polite and efficient; we both had swordfish, delicious as always. Osso bucco is still on the menu; call ahead to reserve. Still our favorite in Cape May."
