A word from Fresco Italian Cafe
Chef Logen Crew takes pride in creating innovative Italian food using fresh, seasonal, and local produce. We feature fresh house-made pastas, along with a nightly risotto that should not be missed. Join us on the candle lit patio, tucked back behind The King's English Bookstore, or dine with us inside in our intimate, cottage-like dining room. Browse the books at the bookstore before dinner, or have a glass of wine and wait in our garden where we grow and use some of our own produce. We do not take reservations for our patio, but we do our best to accommodate all requests. Due to the intimate size of our restaurant, parties of 5 or more should call the restaurant in order to make a reservation. We look forward to you dining with us!Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Lovely atmosphere, relaxed --service attentive. Chicken dish delicious and creative. Pasta was a bit gummy, but sauce fine. Wine list was broad for a restaurant in Mormon territory, but need additions at bottom prices. All in all a delight."

  • "It may be an unassuming location in the middle of suburbia but the food is world class. The waitstaff is friendly and knowledgeable. The dishes were bursting with perfect flavor combinations and were of a proper portion (not the typical American oversize portion). 5 stars. A wonderfully surprising find!"

  • "Entrees took over 1hour and 20 minutes - for PASTA! We have never waited that long for an entree... ever. We had to ask for our entrees to go so we didnt miss a concert that we were going to that night. The waiter was very insulting telling us-- this is a very slow restaurant. We told him we were going to miss a concert and then we watched him as he took his sweet time chatting to another customer while holding our togo boxes! The waiter also had to come to our table at some point and ask what we ordered because he forgot to write it down - what? The kitchen didnt even have our order - no wonder we waited forever! The bill was over $100 for 2 glasses of wine, 2 salads and 2 pasta dishes. Not worth the money or the wait."

  • "One of Salt Lake's best, a great menu, constantly changing...creative, incredible flavors and always very well executed. Fresco never disappoints."

  • "It's easy to forget about this restaurant because it's tucked away and doesn't make a big show of advertising, but it's always wonderful. It always has something new without leaving the general feeling and quality of the food behind, and I would recommend it to anyone. The wine has become very pricey, but I guess that's a general trend. It's very small and intimate and especially nice now that outdoors eating is approaching."

  • "I've been going to this place for years and will continue to do so. The food, wine, service, location and overall atmosphere are great. We always like to hit the bookstore that is connected to the restaurant afterwards."

  • "Our dinner and service was excellent. We tried the broccoli soup, baby artichokes and beet appetizers. They all were very good. I enjoyed the sweet potato ravioli that was topped with brussell sprouts and currants. it was an unusual combination but yummy. Our table also enjoyed the special salmon and the bucatini with meatball. It was a very nice evening."

  • "My husband and I went here on a Friday night Food, drinks, and service were really good-no complaints. My only complaint was there was a crying baby close by and the restaurant is quite small and tight."

  • "This is a very intimate restaurant with tables close together. We were by the wait station/kitchen so the staff was constantly walking by our table to get to other tables. I did not like that as I felt that our dinner was constantly interrupted. But the food was outstanding. My husband had the 3 course special associated with the Natural History Museum's display on chocolate. He enjoyed every course. I had the baby kale salad and sweet potato ravioli. Both were excellent. My dessert of citrus polenta tart was just ok. Service was a little slow and not very attentive- it took a while for our waitress to take our order."

  • "Food and service were great. The chicken entree was fantastic. I'd imagine the ambience steps up a notch in the summer when things green up and the patio is opened. Definitely recommend."

  • "A colleague of mine treated my wife and I to dinner. Ths atmosphere was fantastic, the food was superb and the service was fantastic. The pricing was very reasonable as well. I highly recommend Fresco"

  • "Every italian place I have eaten at was better and cheaper. The service was good, and the food wasn't bad just not that good."

  • "The Fresco is an old house in the middle of a nice neighborhood. There is always a special risotto and the menu while not large is always exciting. The wine list is small but decent with some good wines by the glass. The servers are always outgoing and very attentive. Now, it is very tight and with everybody talking it is a bit loud and tough to get around in if it is packed (which it always is on weekends), probably not a good place to pop the question. However, they have a lovely outdoor dining patio that is much more relaxed but this trip (probably about my 50th) it was February soooo. Make your reservations early (at least a week). If you haven't been there you are in for a wonderful surprise. Neighborhood gem is a perfect description."

  • "On the weekends, this place is packed. Unless the outdoor patio is open, don't expect a quiet, romantic, or quick dining experience. The indoor dining room is cramped--too many tables for the space--so be open to the possibility of a cramped table in the corner. The food is good, but I've had positive and negative experiences there. Bottom line, though, the restaurant is concerned about pleasing their patrons"

  • "We asked our server before ordering a nice bottle of wine if we can take remaining with us when we leave (because of driving, etc.). She said absolutely yes we can. When we did leave , there was half a bottle of wine remaining. We walked out without the bottle, went to the car quickly, since it was raining. My husband, before even entering the car, realized he had forgotten bottle on the table. when he he went inside, he was told thy had thrown it out, emptied the bottle already. Where we come from, it would have been held at least an hour, or even until remainder of evening( which was already after 9pm). This seems very odd, and disappointing. Not a smart move for an established restaurant."

  • "Wonderfully surprised by everything we ordered. The calamari was simply outstanding. Risotto and escolar dishes also cooked to perfection with perfect pairings of veggies. Service was always on top of everything and very personable."

  • "New to slc (from CA) and have been happily surprised by all the food here--but especially Fresco; delightful in every possible way. can't wait to go back soon. A true special occasion place to make every day a special occasion. Our server was so sweet and attentive--only gave 4 stars because the service was on the slow side in general--not her fault! :-)"

  • "Dishes seemed to be a bit extravagant with everything except the kitchen sink thrown in an attempt to add tell it tastes to some acceptable. Less is definitely more when it comes to there best dishes, service is unreal. Unfortunately and ironically the noise level kept the small but busy restaurant for first time dates a hard place to get to know some one as you either yelled a question, or said nothing for fear of it not being heard. Best thing for this business is to add on or move as space is needed."

  • "I have been to Fresco many times and have always been treated like family and enjoyed the food. I am so lucky that I can walk here and that the menu always changes slightly to give fresh new options."

  • "We haven't visited Frescos since our one year anniversary. 18 years later we went back with fond memories. The restaurant was quaint and cozy as we remembered. The menu was set for Valentines weekend. I felt the food was not worth the price. My husbands med-rare steak came medium well with little seasoning. My risotto was magnificent! Though it was topped with tasteless chicken. My husband ordered a chocolate cake that he described as store bought... Our server was nice but uncomfortable. I don't think we will return any time soon."

  • "We love this place. Food is always delicious and the service is great. We make it to Fresco once every couple of months and are always happy with the experience. Definitely one of our top 3 favorites in SLC."

  • "The true measure of an Italian restaurant is - their red sauce and there stuffed pasta - Ravioli, tortellini, etc. On both counts this place rates at the top ion my book. We had their bucatini and my wife had their agnelotti. What a treat - they were both outstanding. Bravos to the chef! Wish they were in my home town."

  • "At the risk of too many people finding out about this place it would be unfair to say anything other than that Fresco is a gem of a restaurant and great escape for a couple's night out, literally hidden away in the near edges of Salt Lake. The food, the service, the atmosphere...... just a wonderful place for a couple to dine. And yes, when you think your almost there.....and then wondering...can there really be a great restaurant in this quaint neighborhood? You are not lost! It really is there... and it's definitely worth finding! I apologize for not following the rules of writing a good review. It's not my job. But when I'm in Salt Lake for my job, I will always try to find a way to dine at Fresco....."

  • "In a neighborhood not far from downtown. Modest size, great food and service. Have been coming here for years, only in winter. I expect it would be great in warm weather for outside dining."

  • "I hadn't been to Fresco in 8 years or so, and I'm not sure why I waited so long between visits. I love this place-beautiful food, unobtrusive yet attentive service. I came here with 2 girlfriends for my birthday, but it would be such a wonderful place for a romantic evening as well. I wouldn't call it good for groups, only 13 tables in the whole restaurant. It's super cozy. Next, I want to come in warm weather so I can enjoy the patio seating. If you want a less pricey, more energetic experience, the same folks run Cafe Trio and Cafe Trio Cottonwood, which always serves a good meal!"

  • "We frequent Fresco on special occasions and again it did not disappoint. We were a party of five and enjoyed the specials, the service, the ambience, and the fact that no one was rushing us."

  • "Loved the atmosphere, the service was top notch, but the food was just ok. This was my wife and I first time there, the food we ordered was different than what we would normally order, and was not to our personal liking, we will try it again, but we are not in a hurry! My wife had the risotto with pork loin and I had the smoked egg plan spaghetti."

  • "Not a great place to go for a holiday dinner. Other than that, one of my favorite restaurants in SLC. A bit too noisey and hectic for visiting with friends on New Year's Eve. Love the coziness, the food is usually excellent and the service fantastic."

  • "Not being from slc - I relied on online reviews to decipher the fresco's menu and ambiance. My in laws who live locally had never ventured to it so they were good eggs in going along with us. What we had : grilled calamari which was surprisingly fresh; and all of us split Caesars salads -the risotto which had lots of textures, the fresh market marlin which was dense and very filling with tasty sides, and a meatball beef buitonni dish that my kids split and loved it. There is no kids menu which is good since it forces kids to eat what there parents eat. The homemade gelato was delicious and the wine list was not extensive but still moderately priced. This is a hidden gem in SLC's culinary andrecommended for foodies and foodie newbies."

  • "We used to dine at Fresco's for special occassions years ago. After moving back to the area, we were excited to take family there for an after Christmas celebration. Unfortunately we left very disappointed. The menu was unappealing and what we did end up ordering was not up to the quality that we experienced years ago. The ravioli was thick and tough and the broth/sauce had an unappealing after taste. The meatballs had pieces of grisle or something unpleasant. What a waste of a lot of money and not to mention a bummer of a celebration. We won't be going back."

  • "Worth it to go back for the entree but salad and dessert are overpriced and food comes out pretty slow. Christmas Eve dinner ended to be a 2 and half hour dinner."

  • "This is such a fun place to eat because of it's amazing setting. A little house and private garden area. The food and service are better than outstanding!"
