Diner Reviews
  • "The several options for ceviche will not disappoint, try any of them and you will experience complex flavors that light up your mouth! The entrees also are just fantastic. We had duck, trout, chicken and scallops among the four of us, and ALL of us loved every bite. The shortbread Dulce DE Leche with ice cream ended the meal on one delightful note. I live in this hood and not sure why I do not go more often, but I will. Fillmore Street is always fun and eating at Fresca is the icing on the cake."

  • "Our second visit for a family dinner was another success. The appetizers were delicious and the main seafood dishes as well. Even the deserts were very tasty. In summary: You should stop by and enjoy great Peruvian food and courteous service."

  • "Food was good and the place was packed. But they were understaffed, so the pace of the night was slightly off."

  • "this is a favorite casual spot of ours in the city. they are kid friendly but you want to go on the early side as it gets very crowded and noisy. your kids should also be pretty adventurous eaters as they don't have a kids menu. the ceviche is definitely their specialty."

  • "..they lost my reservation. Some sort of miscommunication between OpenTable and the Staff. They even called me to confirm earlier in the day. However, when I arrived they had no record of my reservation. Weird. It's all good though! They sat us right away when they realized there had been some kind of mistake. Good job, Fresca. The food is always amazing. No complaints whatsoever on that front. Cusqeña Pilser is awesome. Anticuchos and Crab wontons are insanely good appetizers. And the Pescado A lo Macho is probably one of the best dishes ever conceived by man. Kudos to the chef staff here. The Wait staff were great and as attentive as possible though they seem spread a little thin. Didn't really affect the overall experience. Great dinner."

  • "Great food! Had lunch here and really enjoyed all the unique fresh flavours."

  • "From previous reviews I was expecting something a bit more upmarket so was surprised by the lack of street appeal and slightly tired decor inside. Asked a couple of questions about the wine and the waitress (who was lovely) didn't really know anything about the wine but quickly offered a taste. The food was very good, but the overall experience was just brought down a bit by the (lack of) ambience (week day lunch so only about 4 other diners) and interior. Probably a good choice if your only requirement is getting something quick and tasty."

  • "My girlfriend and I were celebrating our 1 year anniversary; since she is Peruvian, I felt Fresca was a fitting location. We were greeted with a complimentary round of champagne and a warm welcome. The food kept getting better and better with each dish (2 appetizers, 2 main dishes). I have visited Peru before and can say that the food from Fresca is, as far as I can tell, indistinguishable from the traditional dishes I tried while I was there. I would highly recommend Fresca to anyone, even if it is for a date on a budget (not too pricy). I will be back again."

  • "You must try the ceviche at Fresca, and there are several choices to select from, including sampler combinations. All of the food is great and this is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant. The noise level is too high, but that seems to be "normal" these days."

  • "This place is great whether you are looking for a great fish place or want a nice piece of meat. On my last visit I had a meat entree which was outstanding and this time my friend and I each had fish. Both were outstanding. We each had a different dessert and both were fantastic as well."

  • "Four of us wound up sampling the menu widely and shared plates-which is a fun way to dine. The ceviche trio had immaculate fresh fish, but could have added more variety of ingredients. The fried plantain chips were a perfect accompaniment. The yuca frita was a tasty side dish with good spicy sauce. Notable entrees were Churrasco a lo pore, and a special--Corvina. Very tasty and perfectly fresh and well-prepared. The sangria was OK."

  • "Have eaten out for 2 weeks whilst in LA, Vegas and San Fransisco. This was the best meal so far. Só good we even had dessert. The only downside was they had run out of the two desserts we initially chose. Reasonably priced and reasonably sized portions. Really good, would go back if we could."

  • "I always have loved Fresca. The food is fresh and yummy and the staff tends to be very nice. The ceviche was perhaps cut a little big this last time so wasn't as tender as usual, but the flavoring was wonderful as always. "

  • "I love Fresca. I have been several times. Food always good but try to avoid saturday evening if you have a date coming with you. "

  • "Very good food with a strong Nuveau touch. The room gets a little loud, but also a very fresh ambiance."

  • "My one complaint is the quantity of food-and it's so good, I can't not eat it all. I had lunch here a few years ago and not sure why I didn't come back, but plan to put it on my list of first class restaurants. Seafood seems to be their forte. We started with the Ceviche (mixto). I am a Ceviche buff, but am often disappointed. Often too neutral, often not fresh, but here it was just the way I like it (Goldilocks-just right). For a main course, I had the Pescado Macho, which was a perfectly fresh, just cooked right Dorado with a mix of Mariscos in a fabulous sauce. My wife had the trout dish (Trucha) which was imaginatively prepared with a fabulous tomato based topping. I will be back. You won't be disappointed. "

  • "The four people that attended ordered separate dishes for brunch and tried each other's orders. The food was acceptable, not great. It was very noisy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Given the great selection of restaurants in SF, none of us thought that we would return to Fresca."

  • "Fresca used to be a moderately vibrant restaurant where the food spoke for itself. After a 6 month sojourn, I've come back to another Fresca. Unfortunately, the noise is beyond tolerable and the food is mediocre at best. I ordered the Loma Saltado.....which for those who "know" Peruvian food knows that it's an extremely basic dish in ALL eateries in Peru. Well the flavor as bland and the beef was overcooked and the fries soggy. My partner had the Aji de Gallina... another Peruvian menu staple and his was flavorless, and wet..that's right... the only word I can think of is "wet and soggy" ... we had just flown in from Europe and extremely hungry so we ate it..... Sadly to say that these two Pervians will not be back any time soon. ;0("

  • "Food at Fresca was more than excellent. The noise level is a bit daunting however. Table service was very friendly and professional. Only issue was having to literally argue with receptionist who offered the worst two top available when several were open. Don't you just hate that as a start to a dining experience?"

  • "We went to dinner at Fresca for the 3rd time last week and it was delicious as usual. We went with another couple and all the dishes were yummy. We shared a ceviche sampler and each got a main. I have gluten and dairy issues so modified the sea bass dish and it was great. The server was very accommodating and knowledgeable about gluten free and dairy free options. Every time we've been there we've had an amazing meal. Great ambiance too!"

  • "Food from Peru that stands out above the norm! Seafood was fresh and especially well seasoned with unusual spices. Lamb rib chops were outstanding and Steak dish tender and tasty. The entire group of 6 were each pleased. You can make a feast just on appetizers of all sorts. Noise level is high since restaurant is small. Even table reservation was ready on time on a busy Saturday night."

  • "I am such a fan of Fresca (all their locations!)! This restaurant has become one of my go-to places to celebrate special occasions and I am never disappointed. From the ambience, service and to the food--Fresca does a great job. The sangria is a perfect pairing with almost any dish and all the dishes I've ordered are perfection. Love this place!"

  • "We always eat here so we are surprised when the service is slow. No one dame to our table to take our drink order for ten minutes. We still were not sure who our waiter was. Food took a long time."

  • "We enjoyed a light lunch at Fresca. The restaurant wasn't busy around the noon hour, but service was still inattentive. Food was very good including ceviche, salads and a few appetizers. Nice if you're in the neighborhood, wouldn't go out of my way to eat there."

  • "The Ceviche was excellent. We had fish and seafood. Our plates were tasty and the foods were fresh. I recommend thus restaurant for a nice dinner with friends."

  • "our last experience was great but this time we ran into bad service and some decent food. our server seemed bothered which is always a great feeling to have. my gf had a salad and soup that were definitely tasty but my paella was very bland."

  • "We come to SF about once a year and make reservations with Fresca as soon as we book our tickets. Great food. We loved Ceviche, risotto. Everything we have tried has been great so far."

  • "The food was actually quite good but the service and noise level were terrible. I will not be returning."
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "The food was excellent- known for Cervich . The service was good though we felt rushed. The waiter while attentive constantly wanted to take our plates away and move on. The biggest problem was the noise level. This is my second time at this restaurant and this time it was mid-week and it was impossible to carry on a conversation. Though the food is wonderful, I don't enjoy listening to others screaming to make themselves heard nor do I enjoy struggling to hear across the table for two."
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "They were out of the bottle of wine we ordered and then the chicken. While we were able to sit and enjoy a nice long meal, the service was pretty poor as the server rarely came around every 20 minutes to ask for our drink and food orders. Great food! But the super loud atmosphere and okay service made for a so-so meal."

  • "Fresca used to be our favorite Peruvian ceviche place in the city. Its quality of food seems to have really gone down in the last six months. The plantain chips were tasteless (very surprising). The ceviche was bland (unlike what we had in the past at Fresca). Very surprising indeed."

  • "Some of the best seafood I've had in the city, especially the salmon!"
    Dined on 3/6/2014
  • "Fresca never seems to amaze me with their impeccable flavors and beautiful presentation. Due to the growing popularity over the years, it has become a favorite of many, which in turn creates a rather loud environment. If you are looking for a place to be able to talk/hear easily, I would try Fresca for lunch which is a more serene scene."
    Dined on 3/6/2014
  • "The ambiance was nice and we ordered first a beet salad that was just two beets. Ceviche was great, but salmon sauce was a bit bland. The best thing was the sweet plantains. All in all, it wasn't terrible, until the waitress seemed to push us out and even came over when I still was finishing my wine to say another party had arrived for our table and we had to leave. Service was not pleasant and we will not be going back."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "Our waiter was not friendly at all and it felt like he was rushing us through our meal."
    Dined on 2/24/2014
  • "I've been to this place many times and I usually have good food and decent service, but this time the service was disappointing. My companion and I were seated at the very back of an empty restaurant (we had OpenTable reservations) and the service was pretty non-attentive. Our server was polite, but really didn't seem interested in providing us with a great experience. Also, without any explanation, we had a different server half way through the meal. I don't expect fantastic service every time I go to a fairly casual restaurant, but I do expect to feel like I'm welcomed and that, as a guest, I'm having a nice experience and I really didn't get that from my last trip here."
    Dined on 2/25/2014
  • "I love that there are five ceviche dishes to choose from, we chose the sampler of three, and it was great! I would love to try them all. My entree, the sea bass, was mostly polenta with a small piece of fish, not bad, but just okay. Sangria seems to be a "go to" drink here, and we enjoyed a carafe. All in all, a little pricey for what we ordered."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "While the food was good, the service was not. We had issues with our order and had to repeatedly flag down someone to get service. I have heard that the service at dinner is better."
