Our waiter was good, but he was covering too many tables and helping bus so drinks, appetizers, etc. took awhile. I realize it's a barbecue restaurant and one shouldn't expect these options as such a place, but it is a nice touch. The veggie tamale was moist and flavorful and the sauce with it was probably a bit spicy for most people, but I loved it. Also, the pickled carrots were just the right amount of tart. Lastly, the banana pudding was so tasty and was great for sharing.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWow. Freedman's is amazing!Wow! Our experience at Freedman's was nothing short of amazing. The cocktails are great, the food is amazing, and the service was top notch. We had a couple great appetizers and split a large three meat trio and deserts. The portions were huge, and it was more than enough for food for the two of us. The Ribs were the highlight for me, and my girlfriend and I really liked the smokey banana pudding.
I told the waitress that the ribs were some of the best that I had ever had, and the head chef came out to personally thank us and shake our hands. Very classy spot. Try some of the pickled Okra, and if you only pick one dessert, go for the smoked and salted chocolate mousse!! The old school atmosphere of a turn-of-the-century landmark building took you back in time. The outdoor seating and lighting were perfect for a romantic evening. The signature drink was a perfect recipe for whiskey and the smokey chocolate mousse was a great compliment to the barbeque dinner. Our waitress was very personable and engaging. Though I enjoyed the outdoor seating it wasn't clear on the reservation page that the reserved seating was for outdoor tables only. The parking situation does need to be resolved. Fighting for street parking next to a college campus was not pleasant. Prices were very reasonable for fresh cooked barbeque.
