Fraunces TavernA well worth trip back in timeEnjoy a well cooked " American " meal in a non hurried , laid back and historic atmosphere. An early American experience. The pot pie is very good as is the lamb shepherds pie.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMHistory abundance!I love going here not just for the food but for the history of the place. The 'atmosphere' in such a historic building is great and I love the antique looking furniture. The burger was great!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMLunch with the PatriotsThe service was thoughtful and not intrusive. As history buffs, we thoroughly enjoyed dining in a place so significant to Americans. The ambiance of this tavern where George Washington took leave of his officers gives one a sense of living history. My choice, a chicken pot pie, was perfect: a humble dish perfectly prepared with plenty of moist, tender chicken and peas and carrots that were not overcooked, topped with a thin, delicate crust. My friend's burger was pronounced excellent. Our dessert, although the sweets were very tempting, was a trip through the incredible museum upstairs. If you have time for nothing else, go stand in the room where George Washington stood. You will never forget it.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFish and chips were excellent,Fish and chips were excellent, as was the Bailey's cheesecake!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMStep Back in TimeTake a step back into history as you dine where George Washington gave his farewell speech to his troops. Fraunces Tavern is one of those places that if you didn't know what it was; you might pass it by without going inside! The atmosphere is set somewhere in the 18th century with all the modern touches we diners crave. Do take the time to stroll through the entire facility - it seems to go on and on and on! Indulge in a microbrew; taste the finest wine; marvel at the antique bars! Though I would prefer MUZAK of the lighter variety; that is the minor fault of the restaurant ambience! Lunched with two Out of Towners who couldn't get over what a "find" this is!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOne person out of the fourOne person out of the four of us had bad food, their hamburger was described as terrible. The beef stew made with beer was among the best that I have ever had.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMUnexpectedly wonderfulWe're New York natives who were seeing a show in the neighborhood and thought we would check out this latest revision of the historic space. Expecting a cheesy tourist joint, we were delighted to find a varied American menu, fresh but old-timey décor and great service.
Everything we ordered was top notch, with a little something that made it special. The Filet Migon on the cooking stone, with 3 dipping sauces will bring us back.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed a wonderful familyWe enjoyed a wonderful family brunch there--memorable! Special place of historic significance that can be shared and appreciated by all.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Lunch and EasyGood place, easy, affordable, and good food. Definately worth it if your looking an affordable but not cheap lunch in the wall street area.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMreturn to the pastOur luncheon group was a reunion of three Harvard University architect alumni from over three decades ago and their families. What better venue than this iconic historic landmark to meet and renew old friendships and to make new ones. This special place, with its terrific food, ambiance and service gave us a chance in an unrushed manner to thoroughly enjoy our special day.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible historic spot!Incredible historic spot! Thrilling to eat there. Wish the food had been up to the atmosphere but it was good enough. I would go back again.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat brunch spotWe went for the historic ambience, but the brunch was a deal in itself: two courses and 2 drinks for $25. It was wuiet when we got there at 11:30 on a Sunday morning, but was almost full by the time we left--reservations are definitely advised! The corned beef hash was tasty if a bit greasy, and the onion soup was great. Research "blood sausage" before you order the Irish Breakfast. Perfunctory service from our waitress, but the hostess was very friendly and told us a lot about the damage from Sandy--you can see the waterline on the mirror, but otherwise would never know that the whole place had taken on water.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMSet up on an historical place,Set up on an historical place, the ambiance is great to meet with friends and have a good time3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly Recommended!Everything about Fraunces was terrific. We arrived around 4:30 for a 6:15 reservation. The bartender was great, as was the selection of craft beers on tap. The 'tender recommended a very good Oyster Stout. The atmosphere speaks for itself.
