Diner Reviews
  • "I have not been to Frank's in over a year but always remembered they have amazing food. We had the petite filet mignons, they were cooked perfect. The mushrooms we go on the side were deliciousl Only thing upsetting was the bland onion soup we got to start our meal, first time ever I just got onions and broth when ordering onion soup no cheese or bread or croutons to make it heart. That was the only thing disappointing = everything else was delicious!!!!"

  • "I love the steaks at Frank's. I ordered the rib eye and it was excellent. The bread was good, too. The mixed drink I ordered was too strong, and the teeny, dried-out lime slice did nothing to help. I asked for more limes and was given two more teeny, dried-out slices. With my steak I ordered onion soup, not realizing it was plain onion soup, not French onion, and Lyonnaise potatoes, which were served luke-warm and quite salty. Disappointing. I wouldn't rush back. I have a Longhorn Steak House much closer to my home, and their side dishes are excellent."

  • "Frank's doesn't pull any punches. They serve large portions of good steaks at a reasonable price. It's definitely an old school type hangout for a certain type of Bostonian, but I would recommend going back. The steaks are good and the service was very good."

  • "Been going there for years. The food is always good and consistent as is the service. Tough place to find to park but worth the walk."

  • "Hello, I came to dine with a party of four for my mom's birthday at noon on Sunday, March 16. We were greeted promptly by a very nice hostess. Unfortunately, my shepard's pie had a hair in it, and i had to alert the server, who couldn't have been more gracious and apologetic. She sent the owner over who was exceedingly nice and professional, comped my meal, our drinks and offered complimentary dessert. I was VERY impressed and felt valued as a customer. Because of the way we were treated, even with the unpleasantness of finding the hair, i would come back and dine again. Customer service is SO important and you provided that! Also, the food was very delicious. Sincerely, Gail Stankiewicz"

  • "It's always a pleasure to eat at Frank's. The food is not fancy but consistently good. A great neighborhood place, even though we are not from that neighborhood."

  • "Had not been to Frank's in some time, the last was when they were going through renovations and we had a very disappointing meal. Happy to say our recent experience was a ok; our meals were fine and service friendly, though our waiter had to come back and take our order again. Love booths, makes conversations so much easier!"

  • "Food was decent, steaks were a bit overcooked, despite a lengthy conversation with the waiter about how we wanted them. Mashed potatoes were excellent, as was the bread. Fries were average. Good prices"

  • "Frank's Steak House is a great place for a group, with a variety of food choices on the menu. You don't have to just get steak. I would definitely come back with just my husband for dinner."

  • "Frank's is a well known and respected restaurant within North Cambridge and the surrounding area. Frank's offers good food and great service and caters to the walk in crowd (reservation recommended for > 4 people). The staff is friendly and accommodating. Most special requests are accommodated. Many people at Frank's are regular patrons. And the sizzler still rules! A 16 oz. cut of beef served on a sizzling platter - get the loaded baked potato and a crock of French onion soup. Marvelous."

  • "The food was very good, but the service was just 'OK'. The waitress was on the slow side and not very attentive - we got what we wanted by asking time and again. Overall, it was a nice meal and we would go back."

  • "Food was terrific. We had prime rib, club sirloin, and filet mignon. They were all delicious. The salad's were normal. They brought a piece of chocolate cake for the birthday in our party. We'd go back for sure. The only thing is that the parking is a little hard to find. They have made arrangements with someone nearby, but we didn't check into that."

  • "Family restaurant in North Cambridge, with very good parking and an enthusiastic, focused wait-staff. My next visit will fill in a few-more check boxes; it was quiet but full of family parties on Sunday night one day after a big snow. We stuck with steak."

  • "We love Franks - But on VDay they get rid of the menu and for you to pick from a very limited Menu for more money, was not worth it - went to another restaurant, we were very happy to go there, but very fisappointed we had to leave because there was basically no food"

  • "Dinner was delicious! Service was great. Not my first time there, but first with just my fiancé and I. Recommend to anyone who wants a nice piece of steak without the heavy price tag."

  • "The place and the atmosphere reminded me of classic true American dining tradition - friendly place and staff, nice people around you and above and beyond: excellent food. The steaks were of high quality, the service was efficient and friendly and the price is absolutely reasonable. The menu offers a great variety of dishes. This is our second time at Frank's since March 2013: we are visiting from overseas, and dining in this place is one of the good memories from our trips to the Cambridge area."

  • "Frank's never disappoints. From the delicious bruschetta and French onion soup to the light and tasty fried shrimp and scallops and tender, flavorful and perfectly cooked beef, it was a fantastic meal. The service was great and the price was fair. What else can you ask for? If you are looking for a place to brush your crumbs off the table or be amongst suit wearing-adults, this isn't the place. If you want great food at a good price, Frank's is it."

  • "This was our first trip to Frank's Steakhouse. We were originally scheduled to eat here several months ago, however, plans changed due to illness. This was a pleasant "gem" of a restaurant to find."

  • "When we travel we like to see some real town gems that represent days gone by. Franks did not disappoint. We spent $50 on taxis to get to Franks, passing on the expensive chain steakhouses that we're within a few locks of our hotel. In the end the food was just as good, the service was more welcoming and less stuck up and the prices were very reasonable pretty much saving the amount the cab cost. A very good experience."

  • "The prime rib was delicious but the filet mignon was tough and grizzly. Broiled scallops were breaded...not well. Vegetables were overcooked. They did acknowledge our son's 21st birthday with a slice of cake and a candle, but the waitress was gruff. Would not return but happy that we tried it."

  • "This is the best meal I have had out in a long time, service was fantastic, and the prices were so reasonable, especially for New Years Eve! Frank's is just fancy enough for a special occasion or just a good date night without being so fancy that you feel uncomfortable. Perfectly balanced restaurant for me on family friendly, date friendly, special occasion friendly, good noise level, excellent service and excellent food. Hats off to Frank's Steak House!"

  • "We needed a last minute reservation for New Year's Eve and turned to Open Table. Remembered seeing Frank's on the Phantom Gourmet. We weren't disappointed. Great prime rib and the lobster pie had tons of huge lobster pieces, mostly claw and tail! Sides were awesome, too. Very reasonably priced. Staff was super friendly and attentive. Well be back!"

  • "Frank's is a comfortable, warm, steak house atmosphere with a touch of neighborhood originality. If it's outstanding steak you want, Frank's is the place. Comparable to any of the much ballyhooed Boston steak houses. Reasonably priced meals, and very good service."

  • "I only had one issue, the waiter was covering to many tables. I was a table of 14 and not all of us ate at the same time. Being that it was my birhtday dinner I felt embrassed that some of us was almost finished and the rest was just getting there food."
    Dined on 12/8/2013
  • "Frank's is a great place to get a basic steak or prime rib dinner. Excellent value for your dollar. The place is always crowded. The atmosphere is very casual. If you want to take a group to dinner and avoid a 2nd mortgage in the process; everyone will have a great meal. Remember though, no linen napkins or anything fancy here."

  • "There were four dinner party. Two people got the Tomahawk, excellent choice. The fillet was outstanding as well as the prime rib, getting the horseradish is a must! We all left very full and very happy. Will definitely be going back"
