I was very disappointed. Our server didn't listen or recommend good dishes. The cocktails were boring and tasteless. The appetizers were the only decent part of the meal. We had the ahi tuna tartar and BBQ shrimp. From there it only for worse. Our main courses were bland and boring. My pork chop was tough to cut and eat. The poach salmon was something you could/would make at home if you were on a diet. Lastly, it was overpriced and disappointing.

We had lunch here and, although the restaurant is on the pricey side, we loved it. The Friday lunch fried chicken special was really wonderful. The chicken has a real crunch and is nice and moist inside--all without being greasy. The sides of collard greens and smoked gouda mac & cheese are fantastic. Only complaint is that I asked for all dark, my waiter presented it as all dark, but it wasn't. The waiter was so good I didn't say anything until he took the leftovers to box up. Then I just told him he should know that he might have asked the kitchen for all dark, but that's not what came out. I can live with that slip up because the food was so good. I'll be back!

We recently went to dinner with friends and found the food to be delicious and the ambience to be very nice. There was a real variety on the menu of "comfort food" and creative dishes for the more health-conscious. Service was attentive and friendly. I'm looking forward to returning and trying some other items on the menu.

  • Restaurant Week Bust... :(
    HoustonCivil
    Dined on 8/13/2014
I went here for restaurant week and was incredibly disappointed with the portion size, I thought the purpose of Restaurant Week was to get exposure for the restaurant at a little above cost and to help the food shelter (5$ donation). All in I paid 35$ plus tax and tip for a meal that should have cost about 25$ max (accounting for nice ambiance). So in essence I donated 5$ to the food bank and 5$ to Franks, all the food tasted good but I feel that they are missing the point of Restaurant week. I would not have minded paying 35$ if I got a bit more presentation/portion size on the appetizer and dessert (the cheapest part of the meal), if this is how they do restaurant week I don't think that I will try them for regular dining.

We had a great dinner during Houston Restaurant Weeks 2014. The food was delicious and serve at the right temperature. Too many times, I've been presented with an entree that was room temp at best or dried out because it sat too long under the salamander. Perfectly seasoned chicken fried steak and gravy, garlicky green beans and mashed potatoes. The brownie was amazingly good...warm and fudge like, topped with vanilla ice cream. The cocktails were fierce and hell, even the coffee rocked. Mike Shine produces great food. The service was ok but not very inviting. How many diners believe they received subpar customer service because they chose the HRW menu over the full menu? I'd like to see that survey...

Overall, the experience was great! The ambience of the restaurant is comfortable and relaxing, with all tables being respectful of their noise level. I really liked that there was a good mixture of young and old, married, families and the ladies night out eating at the restaurant! Our server (sorry, I can not recall his name) was incredibly attentive and anytime you asked him his thoughts about this or that, he was honest and truly genuine with his response! We had a couple questions regarding wines and the in-house wine connoisseur was helpful (and extremely cute I might add) in letting us try a few white wines before settling on the perfect bottle! In the end, the timing of each of our courses was perfect and the experience was great!

We have been supporters of "Houston Weeks" for several years now and we had eaten at this restaurant three years ago when it was Frank's Chop House. We had thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience then and were not disappointed now. Previously, the pork chop I had there was one of the best I'd ever eaten. The restaurant was pleasant and we were promptly seated despite being early for our reservation. Our waiter was very amicable and prompt with his service. Three of us ordered the pork chop and one the chicken fried steak. The chops were out of this world and the steak very tasty. Our guests also could not be more complementary about the food and service. The coconut key lime cheesecake made a great finish to a great meal.

Admittedly, we love Southern cooking, and Frank's Americana Revival is just tops at it! Whether it's fried green tomatoes topped with shrimp and remoulade sauce as an appetizer, or chicken-fried steak with cream gravy or red snapper topped with crab meat and creole okra and tomatoes, it's just hard to find a dish here that isn't delicious! The wine list has been drastically overhauled, and is very respectable (at moderate prices) now. There are lots more goodies here, too--we just stick to our favorites.

We came here for dinner to celebrate my husband and my mom's birthdays and had a party of 6. We ordered appetizers to begin and were immediately pleased. Everyone ordered something different, from the meatloaf, to the chicken fried steak, ribeye, fried chicken etc. and EVERYONE'S meal was terrific!! We then decided to each try a different dessert and again ALL of our desserts were amazing! My brother and I shared the sticky toffee pudding and it was so good I would come back just for that! The service was wonderful to add to our great meal. This is a restaurant that we will definitely be coming back to!

We decided to have a birthday dinner rather last minute at Franks American Revival. We started early at 5 for happy hour in the bar (with some great sliders, waffle and blue cheese chips and okra). Stayed for about an hour and then moved to dinner. It wasn't too crowded so our group could easily visit while having a drink or two at the bar. Dinner was also wonderful. Across the table we had steaks, several salads, veggies and a couple of shared desserts. All in all a wonderful experience that we will look to repeat some day! Thanks Franks!

We had dinner last Sunday with another couple, and Franks was a very pleasant surprise! Our meatloaf was delicious and served with bacon-tomato jam. My husband and I shared this and a stacked Caeser salad. The salad presentation was lovely. Our friends shared Grillades and Grits as well as a chopped salad. The food was very good and very plentiful. Sunday night was also half priced bottles of wine. There are so few restaurants that are quiet enough for customers to carry on conversations, but Frank's Revival has revived the lost "art of conversing". We will definitely return for dinner soon.
