Diner Reviews
  • "We had a wonderful night. The food was great. Yes....expensive!!!! But I wasn't at an Outback steakhouse."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here and had an incredible meal. It was a little later so the place was practically empty. The steaks were some of the best we've had, the atmosphere was pleasant and we will definitely return. The prices are high but it is worth it!"

  • "This our go to place in Roanoke for the best steaks in the area. We also enjoy the Baked Cheese Bruschetta starter. Service is always fantastic, attentive but not intrusive. Frankie Rowland's is on the expensive side so we only go on special occasions, but always look forward to any opportunities."

  • "Great steaks. Everything was great. Wine list is exceptional along with the convenient location and ambience."

  • "We choice FR for an anniversary dinner and were not disappointed in the least. We were seated immediately and the staff was attentive without being intrusive. Prices tend to be on the high side, but this is a well known fact and in line with this level of dining experience. Food was superb and portions were substantive. Hope to return on a more frequent basis than just to celebrate major milestones."

  • "My wife & I went for our 15th wedding anniversary. Our server wished us a "Happy Anniversary" during her introduction. Our server was excellent and our steaks were cooked perfectly. I had the bread pudding for dessert and I can't stop thinking about it. Frankie Rowland's is the best dining experience in Roanoke."

  • "We had a small dinner party at Frankie Rowland's earlier this week. First, it was great to use OpenTable to get make reservation. This app works very well for securing important reservations at hard to get into restaurants. Frankie Rowlands is what you would expect in a fine restaurant anywhere. The outside appearance of the restaurant gives you no idea of what's inside. Pretty plain Jane exterior, pretty incredible interior! The bar is stocked with many fine liquors and their wine list is amazing. They have an incredible selection of prime quality steak, excellent seafood and even veggies for those that are less than carnivores. Service was over-the-top and we want to put a special shout out to our server, Helen Virginia."

  • "Its been a couple of years since we were here, but again it was superb. As a filet addict, I couldn't have been pleased more to have the best in the valley. And the creme brûlée was a solid finisher. Mmm."

  • "Great food, great service as always. Enjoyed my steak, and the au gratin potatoes are the best."

  • "Excellent steal. cut like butter. Service great. Location in the heart of town"

  • "Had a great rib-eye. Ordered it medium-rare - the fat was crispy and well-seasoned. I usually order a cajun rib-eye from Morton's because I find steaks to lack flavor, but even with just salt and pepper it was quite delicious. Sides were very good as was the Tomato salad with Mozzarella which was served on a bed of spinach - nice touch. My only complaint is that my dining companion's filet was butterflied and extra well-done. She ordered it medium plus, but got scared when the server said it would come with a warm red center. The mashed potatoes were super-rich, creamy and wonderful. Only caveat - the prices are like downtown DC or NYC. But I would say they are worth it."

  • "Overall, a pretty good first time dining experience and would definitely go back. It was what I expected for an upscale steakhouse and pricing was in-line. You can easily share the steak portion and sides as a couple, which they take care of in the back. I would like to have seen more of a menu description for some items, which would assist with not having to potentially send something back. Service was sporadic due to the restaurant having a large dinner party, which took away from overall service. Our server introduced herself and we never saw her for the rest of the evening. I will say the gentleman that took our dessert order was fantastic, which my wife and I both said he would have made the evening perfect."

  • "We always enjoy our meal and service at F R. This is our 'go to' restaurant when we are in the mood for something special. The Oysters Rockefeller is delicious and their bread pudding is out of this world....and they make a great Cosmo! Highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Frankie Rowlands never disappoints. This is my wife and I's favorite steak restaurant - anywhere. We went this time for our wedding anniversary. We were wished a happy anniversary by the greeter and again later by our server. They gave us an intimate table and even comped dessert. The filet oscar steaks, scallops were cooked to perfection. The service was impeccable. We can't say enough great things about this restaurant. Did I mention the awesome Martinis? "

  • "The steaks are outstanding and I very seldom order a steak when I dine out. We started off with a lump crab dip---was all crab and cheese---outstanding. We shared a salad that was an ample portion. It was a great evening that we intend to repeat. "

  • "I've lived in Roanoke all my life, I have never took the time to stop by. I wonted to do something nice on mothers day for the two women in my life, you all establishment was the frist place I wonted to come to. The steaks were perfectly seasoned and cook to perfection, potatoes were very good, my mother, brother, and even my nefphew who didn't know what an oryster was all rave over how tastful and wonderful they were! I had the fillet migon, but can't wait to come by and order the ribye (my favorite meat). Thanks for the wonderful service!"

  • "Everything was perfect! I'd have to say this is one of the most exceptional dining experiences I've had. We had the scallops and the wagyu "tamahawk" ribeye, and although the food was absolutely delicious, the service was the best part of the evening. Our waitress was Bethany and she was pleasant, knowledgeable and efficient without encroaching. It is definitely worth the trip from Norfolk, and I recommend this place to anyone visiting Roanoke. "

  • "The food we had was excellent. My husband got a steak and I got a seafood trio with the best scallops I've ever eaten. Everything was delicious and the service was great. The only complaint we had, was that it was a little loud from a large group sitting near us. Otherwise, it was fantastic."

  • "We went for our first anniversary and it was perfect. They seated us virtually alone in a couples table by the window with a gorgeous city view. The food was amazing and the service was beyond compare. Pricey but oh so worth it! Way better than others in the same piece range."

  • "A great fan of Frankie's. Little disappointed that the manager did not acknowledge two of my dinner guest steaks grossly under prepared. Mine was perfect. "

  • "My husband and I went for the first time for our anniversary and everything was fantastic! Thank you Sarah for making our night fun and for the excellent service. We both had filet, they were prepared perfectly as were our sides and desserts! Highly recommend this restaurant. "

  • "The noise was so bad that we could not hear each other and requested another table. We were accommodated with another table, but the noise level did not decrease. Frankie Rowland's will lose business if they do not reduce the noise. Here is free advice, that I normally charge for - a very expensive way to cut noise in half, is to hang noise abatement panels from the ceiling."

  • "I took a group of clients here for dinner. We were all from out of town so we didn't know what to expect. We all had fabulous martinis followed with appetizers (the scallops & crab dip were so good! ) We then all had great salads followed by dinner. I had a perfect filet that had the best seasoning. Everyone throughly enjoyed their meals and had a great experience overall. I would highly recommend. "

  • "Only issue is I made a reservation specifically saying we were celebrating my daughter's graduation. I reconfirmed saying specifically that this was a special celebration, got there spent a lot of money and NO congrats from any staff member."

  • "Outstanding drinks, apps, steaks, wine and deserts...Our server Olivia was outstanding, she read our needs to the letter. Our son graduated from Ferrum College and this started the weekend off. My wife recommends their signature martini times three! My brother selected two bottles of wine from a great wine list...we finished off with a variety of deserts. I would never hesitate to recommend Frankie's to anyone!"

  • "Frankie's always lives up to expectations and this past Monday was no exception. We started with Oysters Rockefeller and sautéed scallops that were cooked to perfection. My lamb chops were served medium rare and delicious. Waiters were attentive but not intrusive. Overall experience met the usual high standards."

  • "My fiancé and I have just moved into the area and we were looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate the occasion. My parents were coming into town as well so we wanted out choice to be special. The food and service were above and beyond what we expected. The prices are higher than your average steakhouse, but the extra cost is made up with excellent service. I would recommend this restaurant to those celebrating a special day or event or want to treat someone to a evening of fine dining."

  • "Great for a nice dinner to celebrate for a special occasion. The only downside is the smell of Subway from next door. But that is very quickly fogotten when the amazing food comes!!!"

  • "we choose FR for our anniversary. our table was at a corner as we requested,. our waiter was good and so were other servers. we ordered the wedge salad and the 14 oz. fillet steak to share. both were huge portion which we could not finish neither. the salad was crispy and the blue cheese dressing delicious. the fillet was a bit too salty on the crust and it was cooked to medium rare as we like it. 'the asparaus was very good but the potato au gratin was too salty. we were offered free dessert forour anniversary which was a nice touch but we declined because we could not eat any more. it was my husband first visit and he was suitably impressed."

  • "Joey was our waitperson and was superb. Interesting point was how all the waiters/waitresses work together. The food was excellent and my NY strip was cooked the way I can never seem to get other restaurants to do. I love a steak cooked truly Pittsburg style where it is well charred on the outside but as rare as possible in the center. Few restaurants can accomplish this even though they will tell you they can. It takes around 1500-1800 degrees f. Ruth's Chris, Morton's, Grove Park (Asheville, NC) and NY Prime(Myrtle Beach, SC) are a select few able to cook a steak Pittsburg style that I have been able to find. Frankie Rowland's salads, sides, and apps where also prepared to perfection. "

  • "I went to this restaurant for my wife's birthday. They were training waitresses which was fine but when you are celebrating a special occasion, it kind of ruins your dinner. First, I ordered a 20 oz NY strip steak and wanted it to be butterflied well done and they said that they could not do it. I've traveled all over the world and that was a first! The young trainee would could by and stand there and wait for us to take the last bite of food which was very rude in my opinion. The food was good but I doubt if I would go there again."
