This was our first visit to Frankie & Johnnie's. We were a party of 6 (3 couples) and it was perfect. The tables are not right on top of each other, which is nice. The waiter was excellent. Made recommendations on certain foods, was very attentive and courteous. The food was excellent. We will definitely go back again.

Will not be back. Our steaks were not cooked properly and had to be sent back while the rest of the meal got cold. Felt a bit rushed even though there were plenty of empty tables.

This was my second time here. The service was very good. The food was also very good. I was dining with my mother who ordered the au Gratin potatoes which she raved about. We ordered the gelato again, this time Espresso Chip which was excellent. I would definitely go to Frankie and Johnnies again.

Chose Frankie & Johnnie's because it was across the street from our hotel, and we're glad we did. The atmosphere is great; it's John Barrymore's old townhouse converted into a restaurant (upstairs) and bar (downstairs). Our waiter was friendly, and made some great suggestions. Both my wife and I had the veal chop, which was outstanding. Had a nice half-bottle of Italian wine, which was a great complement to the meal. Having been born and raised in NY, I know my cheesecake, and theirs was excellent. All in all, a wonderful dinner experience. We'll certainly be back next time we're in midtown.

  • Restaurant Week: Go somewhere else!

Very disappointed. My first visit to some of my favorite restaurants were during Restaurant Week: the adventure of a new dining experience coupled with the value of Restaurant Week prices. The crab cake appetizer was very nice and seemed to indicate a delightful meal ahead. One steak ordered medium was charred so much that the edges were not edible. The service had been adequate, but so frosty that I was not comfortable saying anything about it. Unlike a table nearby ordering off the regular menu with drinks flowing, the waitstaff was very quick to clear our plates--after 3 dinner courses, we were out the door in about 45 minutes. Perhaps we would have had a more pleasant experience if we dined another time.

The food, service and price of dinners and beverages were very good. Because the air was blowing directly on us and we were cold, we asked our waiter if the air could be turned down and he immediately saw to it that it was adjusted. This is a very good restaurant and it is priced fairly.

Great food and wine. Service is old New York--attentive but not overpowering. The steaks were large and very flavorful, the sides were large enough to share, and the wine list was extensive. Definitely go hungry! Highly recommended!

Visited during restuarant week for lunch. There were 4 of us. My daughter does not like red meat but that was not a problem here. The rest of us ordered steak. All three steaks were cooked perfectly. The hottest and waitstaff were very friendly. This was our first time to Frankie &Johnnies but not our last.

The air conditioning was out on the second floor. Of course, when we arrived and let our server know that it felt warm, he said he would make it cooler. I was sweating throughout the meal. Near the end, I went to the restroom which is located in the back of the downstairs room. I could instantly feel how much cooler it was. As we were leaving, I asked to speak to the manager. He informed me that the the air conditioning was not working upstairs. Had this been told to us when we first inquired, we would have sat downstairs (if the server had informed us it was working downstairs), or we would have left. This was a special night, and we were disappointed. I feel like we were scammed. Most disappointing was how the manager didn't seem to care.

Table was awful despite numerous other tables being available, and the cut of meat (porterhouse for 2) was fatty. To be quite frank, with all the competition, there is no reason to go here; e.g. The Strip House a few blocks away is only a few dollars more and superior in every way.

I visiting Frankie & Johnnie's Steakhouse during restaurant week and the service was food was great. The restaurant wasn't too crowded and it was pretty quiet for a wednesday evening which we enjoyed. The waiter was very nice and helpful and the food was delicious. The portions were perfect size. For appetizers we had clams oreganata and crab cakes. The crab cakes were pretty tasty, i would recommend these. For our main entrees we tried the surf & turf, pork chops & grilled salmon. I highly recommend any of these dishes as they were cooked very well.

Went for restaurant week lunch course. From a group of five 3 ordered steak, 1 ordered linguini, 1 ordered salmon. I do not recommend the linguini as it was too salty and not so flavorful. Salmon dish was very good according to my friend. 2 steaks were ordered medium well done but came very well done (this could have been since we asked for our meals to be rushed as we only had 1 hr lunch break) and the order of 1 steak was not placed in correctly so a burger came out which we had to send back. The third steak did come out as we ordered medium rare but she had to take it to go as we completely ran out of time. Then the bill came out with an extra charge of burger so we had to get that fixed. Lots of time was wasted due to mistakes...

I ordered crab cake and steak (medium rare) And the crab cake was very salty and doesn't taste good My steak was overcooked so I asked them to change a new one for me The dessert was probably the only one course that I like it. (Gelato of the day) My friend order calms and pork chop same thing, calms were very salty and not that fresh Pork chop was too dry and salty Bread pudding was just fine.. It was a little disappointed.

Always enjoy a meal at Frankie and Johnnies on 37th prior to a MSG game, for me the Rangers. Lots of good luck here, and the food is like Keens but the overall ambiance of dining in a booth in the bar room is better I think. Nadia the bartender is GREAT, excellent service, great attitude. Steaks and seafood are wonderful, drinks good, atmosphere and management excellent. Then, a short walk to MSG for a RANGER victory.

It has been awhile since we last dined at Frankie & Johhny's on 45st. They now have 3 locations and our reservation on Open Table became confused with the 37st location. The hostess was very cooperative and confirmed our reservation at the other location and immediately honored their reservation. Wonderful dinner and excellent service before a show. We had 2 of our grandchildren with us and they both cleaned their plates and said " we could bring them back anytime".

Our service was random. Got the rib eye steak and the fat in it was so big a chewy. I was constantly taking pieces out and putting them in my napkin. We waited an extremely long time between appetizer and dinner to be served. The place was not crowded at all.

Overall a poor value. On the plus side, a nice environment. It is a quiet and beautiful upstairs dining room. The bar was generous with its pours. Unfortunately, the food did not measure up. The sirloin was fatty and tough and the filet mignon was dry. Service was slow. Prices were comparable with other top end NYC steak houses, but the food and service did not measure up. Too bad Ben Benson's has closed!

This was the first time for me at F&J. We went at the end of lunch, so there were very few people in the restaurant. Skipped the appetizer and went straight to the main course. Steak was cooked to perfection. Best garlic mash that I've had in a very long time. We ordered sauteed spinach, even though it wasn't on the menu. That was delicious as well. Even my gin martini was perfect. I will be back!
