We had a great time at O'Dowds. We really enjoyed Katie Sullivan--both her music and her humor. And the food was great! I had the Reuben which was overstuffed with corned beef. My husband had the shepherd's pie, which he said was good but a little heavy on the peas! I recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Was not too impressed. Thought it would be more authentic. The beer list was limited but they did have a wide range of other drinks to offer. The food was ok, not made from scratch by any means. Was so unimpressed by the Pub, we decided not to stay at the adjoining Hotel. Kind of a Bummer :(

The only thing I was disappointed in was that we had a reservation and upon entering were seated in the very back of the restaurant. We could not see the dancers well at all. Since we had a reservation I thought we should have gotten a better seat! The food and service were very good.

Had driven by many times going to Galena but had never stopped. Made a reservation for Sunday evening and was pleasantly surprised at the overall Irish pub experience! Baily, our very attentive server was friendly from start to finish and never got tired answering our questions about Irish beer, food, etc. The food was fantastic, and the icing on the cake was the performance of the Irish Dancers....that was fantastic! We will be back soon!

We were visiting from out of town and scheduled our meal for the Irish dancers and entertainers. The food was really good, service was fast, and they have an extensive list of Scotch and Whiskey. The dancers were four young girls and the routine not so impressive. The Irish singers/entertainers were great. We wish we had more time to stay and enjoy the evening.

The food here was just above mediocre and the room was quite loud, even without a full house. The performer was nice but it was hard to hear her over the crowd noise. This is a good place if you want to have some drinks, enjoy music, and commiserate with friends, but I wouldn't come here with kids or for great cuisine.

Stayed at Cottage 12 years ago, found the food to be much better with adequate portions then. Not so this weekend. Cod which was exceptionally small and dry. This weekend the entertainment was very disappointing. Dancers were okay but the presentation was very unprofessional. Dressed like the 8th grade talent show! One girl didn't even have the hair piece to complete somewhat of the look. They fumbled around many times to find their own music selection. Shouldn't they have that marked or recorded better and have someone else, even a mother, begin the music so they don't run to their places and miss beginning. Service workers disorganized. Running into our table constantly and seemed flustered at the larger tables around us.

The broiled cod was very fresh and cooked perfectly. My boyfriend had the Gaelic Steak which he really enjoyed. We were too late to see the Irish dancers but Ian Gould was on stage which added to the overall Irish Pub atmosphere. He played a great selection of Irish and American songs. We saw him during dinner on Friday and we liked him so much we came back Saturday just for the music! And a few drinks of course, after all this is an Irish Pub. ;)

This is the third time we made reservations and upon arrival, they did not have them. They tried to sit way in the back, but our reservations for for right up infront of the stage. They also told us that we had never made a reservation because they did not have it. This time though, the hostess ran outside to catch up and inform us that she finally found our reservation. it was too late. This is the third time that it had happened and we never plan on going back.

We discovered this place two years ago while staying at a neighboring motel, We enjoyed the food and friendly service. This visit to Galena, I surprised my wife with an "Eat, Drink and be Merry" weekend package at The Irish Cottage to commemorate our recent 52nd Wedding Anniversary. She has been delighted with our accommodations in the Glendalough Suite and the entertainment at the Irish Céilidh. Our dining experience at Frank O'Dowd's Irish Pub and Grill has been delightful. We will share our stories and photos of this special weekend with our family and friends when we return home. We will definitely recommend it to others!

We ate at Frank O'Dowds and my fiance had the cheese burger with fries; I ordered the Irish Stew. Both were quite good. The old Irish bar atmosphere is fun and appealing. The dinner was enjoyable and reasonably priced. It was a nice alternative to the pricier and more upscale restaurants in Galena.

First off, the food is good. Service was good as well. You can put up signs and posters but that doesn't necessarily mean you've got an Irish pub. I expected to see more traditional Irish meals, drinks and specials on the menu. Where's the lamb stew? There was no corned beef and cabbage to be found. Yes, there was a corned beef sandwich which I ordered and it was very good, but I could get this at most sandwich shops. Where's the bread pudding for dessert? I ordered a black & tan and did not see the separation between the Guinness and the ale which should be really distinct with a good head of froth. Didn't stop me from drinking it, but it's the presentation and the vibe that's missing here. Oh, and how about some Irish music?

This was a fun place to eat, the music and dancers made this a fun experience :) the waitstaff were nice and professional. My other half had the Shepherd Pie. I tried a couple bites and it was just ok, I had the stuffed chicken breast. It had no flavor, extremely bland. When we go back to the Galena area again, I would go for the fun and have a drink or two at the bar to watch the entertainment, but would have dinner somewhere else.

We were looking for something different to do. Found this place on the internet. Great food, waitress was wonderful, the entertainment by the young girls was great. We stayed a bit for the live music. Nice oldies selection. Drinks were a little pricey, would have liked to sat at the bar and a had a few more, but the pocket book was broke. Glad we decided on this place for something out of the ordinary.

Frank O'Dowd's was the restaurant my husband and I chose for our first anniversary dinner and we had a great time. We started by having authentic cheese curds, which were delicious. Both of us ordered the gaelic steak--it was a New York strip, covered in a white wine and mushroom sauce. The meal came with mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, and a pretzel roll. When ordering, we mentioned my husband's food allergies and the waitress was courteous and careful with what she brought us after that, which was very helpful. We didn't wait too long for our food and the steak was one of the best I've ever had. The potatoes were smooth and rich and did not need salt, pepper, or gravy to be enjoyed. The entertainment was good and we enjoyed our night.

My sister and I were spending a weekend in Galena and decided to try Frank O'Dowd's Restaurant just minutes outside Galena. Between 6:30-7:30 PM every Friday and Saturday, they have Irish Dancers. These adorable (aged 15-22) young women are fully attired in Irish dancing garb and really know their routines well. They danced beautifully together and apart. We enjoyed their costumes, the music and their well-rehearsed steps. We then were entertained by a young man (Sam) on the piano playing popular oldies. He also was talented both in voice and instrument. The food was excellent--we both had the chicken kabobs--and very reasonable prices. Waitress was friendly and quick. We really enjoyed our evening there and will return.
