Our waitress Amanda Meidl was fantastic, courteous, efficient and very friendly. She certainly helped make our evening more enjoyable and you could tell she loves her job. Being a devout Irishman, I found the whole experience at the Irish Cottage and Frank O'Dowd's to be just what we wanted, it was awesome!!. And when my wife is happy then so am I. My mom, sister & I love fish & always try to find a good fish spot whenever we go somewhere so we thought we would try Frank's. Very glad we did because it was the best restaurant we have experienced on a trip in a long time. I will definately go there again if I am in Galena. Stayed at the Irish Cottage Hotel and was I glad that Frank O'Dowd's Irish Pub and Grill was inside the building! EXCELLENT food and really nicely decorated. Beer was also excellent. Had the Gaelic Steak and it was done to perfection with a great irish whiskey cream sauce. Had planned to try several restaurants in the area but honestly, with the quality at Frank O'Dowd's why bother! for my 55th birthday and I could not have asked for a better evening. We were not rust, the entertaiment was better that I could have asked for. They even got Another woman and I on stage to sign with one of the preformers. We were able to get our reserve table moved from a small one near the rest rooms to a larger one up near the stage. We sat a couple extended times with empty drink glasses, and we finally got up and made preperations to leave before someone finally noticed and brought our check. On the plus side, the atmosphere, beer selection and food are absolutely first rate. It was a Friday night and quite busy but our service was great, as was the food. I love that we can get everything from a steak to Irish shepherd's pie. And there are so many great beer and wine selections - some very unique. The live music was just right - great variety, not too loud for conversation, and very entertaining. We will definitely be back again, even though we live two hours away.
