  • "Having been very disappointed with Frank the last time we were there, we stayed a way for a while thinking that perhaps the new chef would settle in and improve. We decided to give him a second chance, once again, the food was not just disappointing, but downright angering. Two tiny very tough lamb chops in one meal, soggy french fries in the other. We won't return until there is a new chef. We miss you Anne!"

  • "A wonderful experience from start to finish. Everyone spoke french which was great for two of our guests who were from France. Our waiter Alister was attentive and very pleasant. We enjoyed our brunch to the last crumb and then went off to enjoy the Moore exhibit."

  • "We have been to Frank's several times and the food is always very good, the atmosphere is enjoyable, and the prices for most things reasonable, given the excellent quality of the food. However, on our last visit we were offended when we received our bill and felt we had been overcharged by $12. After placing our order the server asked if wanted some bread while we waited for our entrees. We received 2 tiny dinner rolls, the kind you usually get in any restaurant bread basket. There was no mention of it being an extra and at $12 we certainly would have declined. An unfortunate bit of a rip off on an otherwise lovely meal. Beware of agreeing to bread for the table!"

  • "Mussels were fine, lamb was very good, and the toffee dessert was lacklustre (although the Walking Woman gingerbread was a very nice touch). The staff bordered on inattentive. Wine selection was solid. I'd give it another chance."

  • "The service was terrible and the food had such small portions for the price."

  • "We decided to dine in at Frank before attending the Massive 10 Fundraising Event. The dining room was pleasantly quiet and intimate when we started dinner. The food was wonderful, the service attentive, and overall a great way to wind down from a busy day at work. As the time approached for the Massive 10 event to begin, we could hear an increasingly loud crowd gathering in a floor below the restaurant - from the cafeteria section at the AGO. The clinking dishes were quite distracting - luckily we finished dining and were pretty mellow, so we didn't mind. We migrated from FRANK to the AGO party area, so it was a pleasant transition for us over all. Not sure we would have liked it if we had arrived during the noisy period, though."

  • "As it was raining the night we dined at Frank, the soup was comforting and it warmed me up. My entree was very good....the flavor of the vegetables, mixed with the veal was so tastie. B"

  • "On average I go to Frank 6 to 8 times a year, usually for lunch. The food and service are consistently excellent. The menu changes regularly, usually themed to whatever the major show is on in the gallery, and always has delicious surprises. A great thing about Frank is that it's easy to get to for a downtown restaurant but is uniquely out of the way. That makes it a good place to meet with friends or business associates and know you'll have some privacy."

  • "The server said that they liked to push the boundaries a little bit. So my dining partner and I ordered the Beef Hash with an egg on top. I asked for over easy and it came out over done. The dish was colourful and interesting to look at but not very tasty - kind of bland. The beef was tough and stringy. I do not know if I would choose to eat there again."

  • "I have been to this restaurant many times, almost always associated with a visit to the Art Gallery of Ontario. Frank's is friendly, vibrant and the atmosphere and décor are contemporary and upbeat. Service is sharp and efficient and the menus seem to be spot on whatever meal you go for. Everything is beautifully presented and I really appreciate the relaxed professionalism of Frank's."

  • "Frank's was a big disappointment. They didn't have 4 items we ordered listed in the menu which is really poor considering is not a cheap restaurant. We visit the AGO quite often and this was our first and last visit to Frank's. Is over-rated. We hope they do improve in the future because we have heard not very good reviews but wanted to experience it by ourselves."

  • "We had the prix fixe for $45 ea. Mussels in Guinness. Tasty, but 11 mussels? Main course Irish Stew..also tasty...beef rather than lamb and a bit chewy. Service was leisurely and professional, which I liked. They brought us a (great) complementary raspberry sorbet, apologizing for the long wait between courses. The wait was no problem, but the gesture was appreciated. The whisky caramel sauce on the sticky toffee pudding was delicious. I'd say this would be a great meal for about $35 prix fixe, but is very bad value at $45 (thats about $60 with tx and tip). Portions were too small, though nicely presented. The room is beautiful, it's a great place to go after Friday night at the Gallery - but the value needs to be improved."

  • "I would eat at Frank any time at all. Food was superb, staff were friendly and efficient. Immerse yourself in art — we saw the Bacon/Moore exhibit before lunch — then eat good food. What's not to like?"

  • "As frequent visitors to the AGO we are familiar with Frank and have enjoyed lunches there. This occasion was less stellar than usual. Fish cakes were overly heavily crusted and the tiny amount of accompanying tarter or similar sauce, while good, was far too small. The starter of mussels included very small, though tasty, mussels in a broth that was overly piquant. (The broth was probably well described and I may have just chosen badly.) With one drink - a Bellini - the bill came to over $50 with tax and tip which seemed expensive for a modest lunch. I have had better meals at Frank."

  • "we had dinner at Frank after going to the Open Thursday. The restaurant was nearly empty - so of course it was quiet. The food was excellent. My husband has many, many allergies and the wait person was very careful to ensure that the dishes he ordered were safe. My duck was perfect - and rare as ordered. My husband's steak was also cooked perfectly to order. The passion fruit mousse was perfect."

  • "Such a pity such a good looking restaurant with good service doesn't deliver on the food. We have given it a few tries but the food is so mediocre. The salads served cold from the fridge with acidic dressing and poor quality ingredients. The soups bland, the meat overcooked. This should be a premier museum restaurant as in other cities around the globe. I always think of the Modern in New York"s Moma or the new restaurant in the Perez Museum in Miami. You don't need to visit the museum to dine there. In Toronto the only reason is the convenience of visiting the museum."

  • "Frank at the AGO proved a fine choice for Sunday brunch, tables graciously spaced, making conversation easy. We skipped the ordinary sounding main dishes (altho those that passed us looked good) and shared the special poutine and the yogurt with granola and fruit, along with a basket of baked goods. They were all a cut above ordinary, although a shade below extraordinary. But what really made this visit was the staff, from the delightful hostess who greeted us, to the manager (?) with the water pitcher and a few words for everyone, to our excellent server. I was charmed that the place had a sophisticated vibebut still took time to warmly engage the children at the next table. It was relaxed rather than stuffy. We left feeling good."

  • "Went with a special someone after a reconnection walk around the AGO. We had a wonderful server who picked up on our private conversation and gave us space while providing amazing service. The brunch menu was fantastic, but don't expect foodie portions... with the starter and main - I couldn't finish my (stellar) pancakes. That said, I would NOT have passed up that breakfast poutine... a bit messy to split - but SO worth it. Every bite was fantastic. We were even able to enjoy a couple of coffees while the meal settled which was lovely in such an artistic environment! Loved it and would go back. Not a cheap brunch, but totally worth it."

  • "I made a reservation for brunch for my friend's birthday on weekend. It wasn't too many people. I ordered a french toast which was cold when it arrived on my table. I was really disappointed with the quality of food at Frank as I thought it could be such a hip place in Toronto for people to have a brunch then head to the gallery. I am not going back."

  • "I always enjoy the food at Frank, but the service leaves a little to be desired. On this occasion, our waiter poured glasses of water for us (there were 3 of us) and then disappeared. By the time he reappeared we had not only decided on drinks but on what we wanted to eat. He never came back to see if everything was okay with our food, he didn't know what the desserts were on the sampling selection, and we had trouble finding him to get our bill at the end of the meal. Oh, and I would have had another drink if he had showed up sometime before we were ready to order tea/coffee and dessert and asked if anyone wanted another drink."

  • "The brunch menu sounded fantastic but execution was completely the opposite. The waffles were soft, fried chicken was pan fried and other dishes and sides were equally lacklustre. Service was wonderful however."

  • "Went there for lunch before a gallery visit. We ordered the burger, soup of the day and the scallop appetizer. Unfortunately there were not a lot of gluten free options, so the burger without a bun was the best choice for my husband. The burger was great, though the fries were soggy. The soup was delicious and well seasoned. The scallops were also yummy, but way overpriced at $16 for 2 medium sized scallops. For the location, the Members Lounge, while offering fewer choices, offers great food at better prices."

  • "I usually love Frank however this has to be one of the most disappointing experiences ever I took my parents out to brunch and was appalled by the service To call it indifferent would be a compliment The waitress with the Bieber haircut should spend more time on her customers and less flicking her hair it would be more productive We waited over half an hour to even get someone's attention to order , poured our own water and struggled to figure out how a restaurant we previously loved had declined so considerably As for the food it would be wise of Frank to recognize that there are customers with more limited dietary requirements there was nothing on the menu to cater to a vegan palate I shall not be dining there again."

  • "This is not my first time at Frank and all i have to say is; service not good and food cold. The food itself is great but when it came to my table it was cold. The waitress came once at the end of the meal to refresh coffee and again to give the bill. Our food was brought to us cold by another server. I don't think i'll be returning anytime soon and i am a member at the Gallery. Signed, Very disappointed."

  • "FRANK was recommended to us by a renowned Toronto foodie. The food was absolutely delish...and the creme brulee was to die for. My colleague and I didn't know what to expect but it truly was a pleasant surprise. It is casual dinning at its finest!"

  • "Delicious meal on a cold night. I had the salmon, which was wonderful. Only thing that would have made it perfect was to have been asked how I like it. I like my salmon we'll cooked and it was not. Extremely good though. My 11 year old guest had the fillet mignon and raved about it. Waiter timed everything perfectly, so food came promptly and nice and hot. Calamari starter to die for - cooked perfectly. Service couldn't have been better with one small exception - waiter took my glass away when a mouth full of beer still there. Small thing but I noticed !"

  • "Pleasant ambience but service and food needs improvement. Our waiter was proficient but seemed a bit unsure of the menu items and was not aware that the asparagus soup was not offered that day. The food came in a timely manner but was nothing really special. We had the green salad, calamari, vegetable curry, and the lobster pie. The salad was bland but the calamari was very well prepared and plated, both were small for the price. The curry was served on the rice so by mid meal the rice was a bit of a soggy mess. Plus looking at a big bowl of brown lumps isn't what I would expect at an art gallery. The lobster pie was pretty good. The lobster was overcooked but when eaten with the rest of the pie, it wasn't much of an issue."

  • "We reserved for dinner to follow our viewing of a great exhibit at the AGO. The hostess and our waiter provided just excellent service. The food was great. I had the Manhattan clam chowder (one of my favourites) and the fish tacos - which sounded unusual but were delicious. Overall a very enjoyable evening with friends."
