Diner Reviews
  • "The service was fantastic but the food could have been better considering there was only a couple other tables."

  • "Popped in for a quick lunch before going to the gallery…food was just OK. Pineapple salad was sweet and quite nice. Lake perch was disappointing. Four very small finger sizes pieces that were fried and overcooked. I usually prefer not to eat the fish skin but it would not come off. Some cookie ice-cream sandwich thing for dessert…cookie stale and hard and I couldn't really bite through it. Not great. Had a nice visit with my friend but was unimpressed with the lunch over all."

  • "Service was terrible. Orders mixed up. Waited while another table ate our order. Food was very good but we will not return."

  • "We were entertaining friends from out of town. I was embarrassed for having spoken so well of Franks. Only the dessert was good. Service was very slow. The appetizer was call cod fritters ( plural ) what we had was one cod cake (similar to crab cake). The main course was a plateful of beans - the tiny piece of Lake Perch was the size of a sardine. That was the worst. I could have opened up a can of beans at home if that was what we wanted. The vegan bun was dry and our guest wasn't even offered a condiment. It will be a long time before we eat there again."

  • "My first dining experience at Frank was a disappointment. While I did enjoy the cocktail that accompanied my brunch, I wish to forget the meal I ordered. Service was sloppy and the experience over all fell below my expectations. Perhaps with better service and a more varried menu I would have enjoyed my brunch more."

  • "I took my mom for her birthday brunch. The food was delicious (franks benny and pancakes), service attentive and lovely ambiance. I found it upscale but still relaxed."

  • "First time dining at Frank and it will not be the last. Both Summerlicious and a-la-carte menu items were fairly portioned and well seasoned. Service second-to-none. We appreciated that all plates arrived at once. All courses were served at an appropriate pace. The Lake Erie perch dish was delicious but felt it could have used a bit more fish. Overall, an excellent visit highlighted by attentive and professional service."

  • "considering it's at the ago the decor could have been much better"

  • "I had been to Frank previously and had really enjoyed the food. However the best descriptor for the Summerlicious July 2014 dinner I had was "horrible"! I would guess that this meal was prepared by a 1st year University student with no prior experience in cooking. The appetizer of pineapple salad contained minute portions of pineapple with some sort of wilted leaves (I could have prepared a better pineapple salad by eating it directly out of the can!). The salted cod fritters were way too salty (duh - you are supposed to soak salted cod prior to using). The entree of ocean perch was dry and unflavourful. The ice cream dessert was stale. The atmosphere plus server were good. Note: The server was very apologetic about the food!!"

  • "I planned a congradultory lunch for my staff and the venue, service and food were amazing! I highly recommend it!"

  • "We went for Summerlicious and the food was delish. One of us is vegan and she was, as usual, impressed with her choices too. The service could not possibly be better and we love treating ourselves now and then by dropping by for a terrific meal. And, the added bonus is that you can go into the Art Gallery afterwards!"

  • "I visited the restaurant after the late night opening of AGO. Straight from art to dinner. Very convenient. The summerlicious menu was great!"
    Dined on 7/9/2014
  • "This was some shock because we've eaten here before and it's been great, but they really dropped their standards for Summerlicious. My wife's cod fritters were salty, over-breaded and over-cooked; I had to go hunting for any pineapple in my pineapple salad; the quinoa burger was a mushy mess that fell apart and was served dry; the perch was decent but the portion was so small we thought it was an appetizer; and the desserts looked & tasted like they had been bought at the grocery store. A massive disappointment from a formerly good restaurant. We won't be back."

  • "The food was tasty and the servings pleasantly modest. Quality over quantity. We also enjoyed the airier ambiance of the second floor"
    Dined on 7/9/2014
  • "The food was ok, a bit pricey for lunch, maybe better for dinner? The service could have been better, granted it was during Summerlicious and maybe a bit busier than norm, but all the other servers seemed to be less swamped, or manic, and far friendlier than ours. Just wasn't what I was expecting for a place like that. However, the manager was very nice and accommodating when needed. I went here to celebrate a birthday, told them ahead of time, and when I got to the resto (hostess made a note, apparently) but absolutely nothing was done when came time for dessert! I was very disappointed :("

  • "Staff very attentive and knowledgeable. A fair selection of dishes for brunch, including alcoholic (and non-) punch and fresh juices."
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "We went for the Summerlcious and felt that the menu was limited with a few selections. The quality of the food, compared to the last time I went there (2011), was poor this time."

  • "Our dining experience at Frank was very enjoyable. Our server was friendly, courteous and very attentive. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Attractive decor, not too loud, and the background music (jazz/blues) was wonderful. We had a lovely time - the perfect ending to our afternoon at the gallery - and we would return."

  • "The lunch menu was far more limited than ever before -- and we have dined at Frank various times over the years. If you liked breakfast fare (eggs) or a cheese steak, it was OK. But the interesting dishes of the past, like seafood tacos, or imaginative salads -- were missing. The service and ambiance, however, were excellent."

  • "Went here for the summerlicious promotion.the food isn't bad, but very small portions, and the regular menu is quite pricey at $40 or so for each main course. The decor is rather plain, which is odd, considering it is inside the AGO. Our server must have had a long day. While he was polite and courteous, his smile and his voice was not genuine."

  • "Appetizer - cod fritter - way too salty. Main - lake Erie perch - way too oily. Dessert - berry bread pudding - too saucy and sour and take away the overall taste of the dessert. I tend to have a lower expectation for summerlicious meals but the meal was thoroughly disapppinting."

  • "Food fine & makes a visit to AGO an event but our server really raised the experience...she was so personable."

  • "Franks was fantastic. The service was very professional the restaurant is nice and bright which can be a nice change for a restaurant these days. We had the salmon which was very slightly over cooked but still delicious and the crunchy daikon salad complimented the fish nicely. Also had the steak frites which was also just slightly over but also still tasty. We finished with the trio of desserts which were all very tasty and just the right amount for sharing. I would highly recommend, and we will definitely be back"

  • "Our waiter was superb. He had excellent recommendations for selections for lunch and let us know when portions would be sufficient or not. We mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday and he brought us a complimentary dessert, which was so lovely."

  • "This is our third Tuesday Night Wine Tasting at Frank, and each time we've come with friends, and happily met new people there who added so much to the evening. The service is at long tables, so inevitably the conversation gets neighbourly. We enjoy the wonderful food, taste and learn about wine, and enjoy the explanations given by Chef and the wine makers/importers. The dinner is multi course, with small plates that don't leave one feeling overly stuffed, each plate accompanied by a different wine. 5-6 glasses of wine on a Tuesday is definitely more than I usually indulge in, but it's worth the extra energy required to drag myself to my Wednesday am workout. These Frank Wine Tasting Tuesdays are the best delicious deal in town!"

  • "Another truly enjoyable luncheon at Frank! I know my lunch partner was also very happy with the experience. Got a charge out of the dangerous hot sauce that came with the taco. (LOL)"

  • "Really enjoy Frank! Typically, it themes its menus to the exhibits so you can experience the art in a different way. Fun!"

  • "Our family finds Frank's to be a perfect lunch pairing with a visit to the AGO! Service and ambience are very congenial; food is good! We like to make a reservation for Frank to follow our visit to whatever special exhibit is on; then we can compare our impressions of the exhibit over a nice meal."

  • " Convenient, attractive space at the AGO that accepts reservations."

  • "The area around the AGO is filled with many office buildings on University and Dundas and if you are looking for a space that caters to enses and food this is it. Took someone who had not been before and they loved it"

  • "This restaurant delivers great and creative dishes. Combining lunch or dinner plus a visit to the AGO is a treat for yourself and your guests."

  • "My daughter and I dined at Frank prior to an evening at the National Ballet. It was a special occasion since I was in town for a visit. The food was delicious and the lamb was cooked to perfection. Our server, an Irishman, was charming and attentive but with subtle touch. We enjoyed his humour and he helped enhance our dining experience. Our sole disappointment was that the mussels that were listed as available on the menu were not. We were able to share one serving but since they were so delicious, we regretted not having more. Otherwise, FRANK was a great dining experience and I have since recommended it to friends who frequently visit Toronto. "

  • "We're from out-of-town: We've visited Frank's on several occasions, combining with our AGO experience. Frank's never disappoints: Food and fine service add to an always memorable event."

  • "We always enjoy going to Frank for dinner. Every single option on the menu is delicious and the prix fixe deal is well worth it. It always feels like a special great to have dinner and nice bottle of wine. The specialty coffees are a lovely way to end the evening. Time flies at Frank! We always end up closing the place. "

  • "I keep coming back and am consistently impressed. Why this place isn't mobbed I don't understand. The food is excellent, the service is always top notch (no matter who serves you) it's a very comfortable (real leather on the seating ) easy to get to location. The prices are very reasonable!"

  • "I came here for lunch with my Mom who is from out of town before taking her to the gallery. The service was amazing, the bar staff were attentive and knowledgeable and whipped us up some very creative cocktails. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxed and professional and the food was wonderful. We came during 'Burger Week' which was a nice promotion on top of their regular menu. I tried their vegan burger, which was quite filling and full of flavour. It came with a nice green salad that complimented the spices in the patty. We had a really fun dining experience here. Thank you to Jen and Hector for making our lunch a great experience, we will definitely be back!"

  • "My husband and I ate here on May 21 after seeing the Bacon and Moore exhibit (highly recommended). Dinner was delicious. He had the shrimp ceviche and steak frites and I had the wild mushroom panzanella salad and duck. The Californian Merlot we ordered was also excellent (one of the more complex merlots we've had). Our server was both friendly and efficient and the ambience was great. When my husband asked for some ordinary Hellman's mayo to go with his frites, they whipped him up some fresh mayonnaise."
