Franco on Melrose is a hidden gem in the heart of Hollywood serving authentic Italian fare in a beautiful outdoor garden setting.

Chef and owner, Franco De Dominicis is the former Executive Chef at the Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles for a number of years before starting his first restaurant, FRANCO on Melrose. His approach to traditional southern Italian cooking blends seamlessly with a distinctly Californian lifestyle through consistent use of fresh, locally-grown products, and his signature dishes reflect the seafood-rich cuisine of his own Amalfi coast home.

  • "It was my birthday and all I knew was I wanted Italian food. Thankfully we were steered towards Francos. The food was amazing - we had the bruschetta and the proscuitto with burata. Delicious. Then for our mains we had the lasagna (perfect with the béchamel sauce) and the gnocchi. And finished it off with panna cotta. I secretly wish we had gotten the tiramisu but the panna cotta was amazing. AND the fact that it's byob with only a $5 cork fee. Does not get better than that!"

There was no discussion of specials or answering of our questions, just quickly writing down our order and rushing off, kind of like Denny's. I would still return, though, the food was worth it!"

  • "Met old friend with out Tweens. Even though it said somewhere that it wasn't kid-friendly, I didn't find it to be unfriendly. I raved & devoured my butternut squash ravioli. Other dishes were yummy too, as well as calamari appetizer & desserts too. Very cool atmosphere, feels you are outside but not in cold temperature. I'm not sure if we were in or out! We were in far back. It was a very nice & delicious evening."

Our waiter is usually Eduardo "Ed" and has a great memory and will have already order our drinks for us. Talk about 5 star service. 1 of our favorite dish is the butternut squash ravioli, as my fiancee, its like a taste of heaven. Service was well-timed, and don't forget the BYOB!"

  • "When I am craving Italian food Franco's will be my go to spot. The place is charming and luckily for me very close to home. I dined with a friend a Friday evening with 7 PM reservations. Greeted right off, confirmed the reservation and just a great night as soon as we sat down. Our service was exceptional and very friendly. The food was amazingly good. The butternut squash ravioli was outstanding. You bring your own wine and only a $5 corkage fee. The waiter kept the wine on ice in the back and continued to fill our glasses as needed. I would highly recommend this gem is you haven't been."

  • "My 2nd time at Franco's and it was fabulous. We were there early on a Tuesday night right before a show at The Improv. Jaime as host is wonderful and the chefsare outstanding as well as the servers. I had the lobster and my boyfriend had the short ribs and all was so so delicious. Jaime made us feel special and we even got a wonderful panna cotta dessert on the house! No wine and beer license yet, but they are working on it for March. So bring your own and enjoy the food and ambience. You won't be disappointed!"

Apparently they overbooked the restaurant. With so many good choices for pasta in the area I would find it difficult to justify returning given the lack of liquor license and inconvenient parking down the street."

After being seated 30 mins late for a 10pm reservation without a smile or an apology, our server (again without even a "hello or welcome to our restaurant, would you like to hear the specials?") made it seem like we were an inconvenience when trying to order our meal. I'm sorry you had to work so late but this was something we had been looking forward to for the entire week. To add insult to injury, when we received one our main courses, the salmon, it was basically inedible. Never had I had such fishy salmon at a restaurant before and they seemed to have covered everything in salt, to probably cover the fishiness. NEVER AGAIN!"

  • "I grabbed a bite here for lunch and enjoyed my experience. They accommodated my dairy allergy which at times can be challenging. The server knew what was in the dishes and if he wasn't sure...he checked with Franco. The food was fresh, tasty, and the portions were generous. The bread is dangerous! It was warm...light...just plain yummy! Makes sense...they make it there. The baby artichoke salad was tender and the dressing was complimentary. The frutta di mare pasta dish was one of the best I have had in LA. The fish was fresh and the pasta was al dente. Delicious! The server was very nice and attentive. I plan to come back again..this time for dinner. The patio is beautiful and I am sure will look different in the evening."

  • "Franco's on Melrose is really a hidden gem, definitely one of my favorites in LA. The dining area is really charming, great for a date, to take the family or for a group. We celebrated a friend's birthday and they were extremely accommodating. One of the best features is their BYOB $5 corkage fee for wines! Amazing deal. We brought several bottles which they kept on ice for us and opened whenever needed. Everything from appetizers to the main course are delicious and reasonably priced. We had the burrata with prosciutto, bruschetta and the calamari to start and a variety of delicious pasta dishes for dinner. My favorite is the lobster pasta. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back."

It is not.Take the porcini sauce of the risotto or fettuccini:they were complemented with flour,a sin for sauces.Service was frantic,everyone trained to deliver food as fast as possible and remove everything at the speed of light.Italian dining is about enjoying the food,talking,having a good time.Impossible if a restaurant has the pace of a fast food chain.No wine list:it had to be announced prominently at the entrance,the webpage,during reservation.Bill brought without asking.You don't push to leave by bringing the bill without consent.Opentable´s suggestion as alternative to Mozza,was inappropriate considering quality,ambiance,service and food at Mozza. Alternatives should be scrutinized rigorously"

  • "So glad to have discovered this place, the front entrance is a bit non descript but opens to a very pretty dining area which also features an outdoor patio. The pastas are cooked al dente and sauces deliciously complex in flavor. Highly recommend the fusilli Franco's mom as well as the butternut squash ravioli with sage cream sauce. At the moment no liquor license but with a $5 corkage, this is a great place to bring some bottles of wine and enjoy some great food."

We assumed that our table's wine would be in its own chilling area, rather all wine brought to the restaurant chills in the same place, leaving room for error in who's bottle is who's."

The appetizers were good as well. The service was fine--a bit abrupt but not a big issue. My daughter-in-law ordered the special Risotto.The flavor was great--the presentation was a step above the oatmeal I fix myself at breakfast--in other words --not good. All in all--Reasonably good food at a fair price --but not very memorable at all. Since I don't live in LA --I won't go back as there are too many other options to explore. The issues I address could be resolved with a little creative thought-Best wishes--"

Did not know what to expect - delicious - everything calamari with the BEST red sauce ever to start, burrata cheese with tomatoes great too we all had something different and shared - Veal shank very rich and the sauce amazing Mama's meat pasta and the pesto pasta, prosciutto and ricotta ravioli and the chicken piccata really one of the best. service was right on - when you need them they are there. brought our own wine. can't wait to go back!!"

  • "Love Franco on Melrose! When you first walk in you walk through the kitchen. It makes you feel like you're maybe in the wrong place, but then the host walks you through the small entrance and you enter the beautiful dining room! It's an outdoor feel with a beautiful vine covered wall and twinkling lights, but it seems it it covered so perfect for year around dining. They don't currently have a wine list, but that is actually great in some respects, because you can bring your favorites from home. Food tastes amazing and the presentation is great as well. My husband and I love it here, and we will be back again soon!"

  • "I really enjoyed my dining experience at Franco on Melrose. The staff was very helpful and attentive, and the table arrangement afforded privacy. Our waiter helped me to choose my entree, and he surprised me with the lasagna, which was very tasty. My niece enjoyed both her pear salad and spinach raviolis. The only reason I gave the food a 4 star rating was that I thought the tomatoes on the salad caprese were a little mushy and I didn't care for the whipped burrata cheese. But that was just a small thing in the overall great experience. We were celebrating a birthday, and were presented with a birthday dessert, sort of a ginger tasting cheesecake, along with the delicious tiramisu that I had ordered. I can't wait to return!"
