The table was ready when we arrived, including the high chair for my toddler granddaughter. The staff was attentive and helpful. The food was excellent, with the exception of the Crab Caesar Salad that my mother ordered. It arrived initially without the crab, which was added with the apologies of the waiter. Mom commented afterward that the lettuce was more like iceberg than Romaine and the crab was watery. The Crab Enchiladas, Shrimp Alfredo and Calamari Fritti were all well received, as were the cocktails. I would go back anytime.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMNot just for touristsGreat food, great scenery, great service; the beer selection could be improved by offering an IPA and serving the Anchor Steam in bottles – the Steam on tap was pretty fizzy, kind of like soda water with food coloring. But otherwise everything was fantastic and we’ll definitely go again. We're 5th gen SF natives and used to be real snobs about anything even remotely touristy. Until we woke up and realized some of the most amazing experiences in our city wouldn't be around if it weren't for the tourist trade and we were just cheating ourselves by not taking advantage of their being right on our doorstep. Franciscan is definitely one of those. But you want to make a reservation!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA dish for everyone's tasteOur family of 10 recently celebrated my husband's birthday again at The Franciscan Crab Restaurant. The service was outstanding - friendly and efficient. We enjoyed our meal which was served correctly and timed so no one was rushed. Even though the restaurant is always busy, we were not rushed in any way. Because of road construction on Jefferson, the parking lots are difficult to access. It was a royal hassle but a problem that will be solved eventually. They said the food was good and the view of the bay was unbeatable. All true and more! Our server was Karen and she was friendly and helpful. Everything was excellent. With one drink each and tax our total was almost $100.00 , but well worth the splurge to feel like we had been to an iconic San Francisco restaurant! The best view of Alcatraz in the city and an ever changing show of boats going by our window. The sourdough bread on the table was excellent, and they validated our parking so that was free! We began with a shared cup of clam chowder which we both enjoyed immensely. For dinner,I had the sea bass in the lemon butter garlic caper sauce and my wife had the crab louie with a generous serving of fresh dungeness crab. My sea bass was delicious. For dessert, we shared the lemon torte. The outdoor seating deck is equipped with heaters and affords a stunning view of the piers and a sweeping view of Alcatraz and the fog-enshrouded sunset. Our seafood linguine did not skimp on the fish and shellfish all tossed in a spicy tomato sauce that did not overwhelm. Crab is the house specialty and lived up to expectations. The food is good, Crab is excellent, the restaurant is very nicely decorated (50s style) and the service is really good. Most think of it as a "Tourist Spot" due to location on Fisherman's Wharf, but it's not!! The views are incredible, the menu has a wide variety and the seasonal seafood items are incredible.
If you like a traditional martini, variety of local wines or a cold Anchor Steam on tap, this is the place for you!

The food was exquisite. My fiancee is a salmon lover and he wants the recipe for the salmon dish. I had the filet mignon it was delicious. We also had the Crab Feast for Two which was made with a garlic sauce....mmmm so tasty!! We are back in Massachusetts and still thinking about how delicious was that dinner.... we highly recommend it. The price was a bit high but great things come at a price and it was worth it.
