A word from Francesca's North
"Francesca's North opened in May (1995) and instantly became the hottest spot on the North Shore - for good reason. Scott Harris has mastered the art of serving generous portions of good food at low prices in stylishly simple surroundings with friendly service - a winning formula that eludes so
many." (Chicago Magazine Great Dining '95)
Francesca's North features the zesty, earthy cuisine of Rome and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio. Located in Northbrook, it encourages the lively art of dining with a contemporary, casually sophisticated trattoria ambiance, good, simple cooking, friendly service and fair prices. Now accepting reservations, Francesca's North put an end to the tradition of waiting for hours for a table at the bar. Large parties are encouraged to call and set up a family style tasting by the chef called Tavoli di Amici (Table of Friends).

A friend and I had interesting
salads with asparagus and prosciutto in a balsamic dressing and shared a good pizza of the day, a switch on the classic Margherita with fresh tomato and pesto. Filling but not overstuffed."

So loud couldn't hear the person
next to me. There was a large party in the private room and the waiter warned us that he had to get our order in before they started the service for the party or we would wait for our food for a very long time. We were rushed. Food was mediochre. I will not go back. It's a shame because the Francesca's on Taylor street in the city is one of our favorites."
Dined on 6/28/2014
been eating here for years - it's
always been a great dinning experience"
Dined on 5/11/2014
We love this restaurant because
the food and service is consistently wonderful."
Dined on 6/28/2014
We dined on a week night. We
requested a quiet spot and they put our party of four in the back room and since that room was filled up, the noise level was low. The food was excellent. Our waitress was excellent. She did not interupt our conversation when taking the drink and food orders and waited patiently until we reached a break in our conversation and didn't keep interupting to ask how the food was after it was served like they do in too many restaurants."
Dined on 6/24/2014
We had a great dinner meeting at
Francesca's, but it's also great for family dining or even a date. The food is good, it's a nice atmosphere, and it's reasonably priced."
Dined on 6/23/2014
Great choice for the burbs. Food
was good. Great salads."
Dined on 6/19/2014
The food is always great at
Francesca's and I especially loved the house salad this visit. So fresh and filled with veggies. You can always count on a good meal here."
Dined on 6/21/2014
The menu focuses on 6-8 pastas and
6-8 entrees, but what they do is well executed. Food is fresh and flavorful Service is helpful and busy. They work hard to keep things moving and customers aren't waiting."
Dined on 6/15/2014
One of my wife's favorite
restaurants, and one of mine as well. Both dishes were fantastic, waiter made a wonderful suggestion and was great as well."
Dined on 6/14/2014
After being greeted and taken to
our table, the first thing that happened is that I touched something sticky on the back of my chair. The ambiance was warm and cozy. My dressing on my salad was very sour but I didn't think of sending it back until halfway through. Also there were some bruised blackish leaves in the salad (a pet peeve). There was a nice variety of wine by the glass and the coconut cake was delicious. Probably won't go back."
Dined on 6/8/2014
I generally go to Francesca's
North at lunch and the noise level has not been a problem. On a Friday evening, however, it was not what I would call conversation-friendly. The tables were so crammed that I was almost as close to the guy at the next table as I was to my dinner companions. "
Dined on 6/5/2014
We ate an early dinner (seated @
4P). We chose two seafood entrees: a halibut and a skate wing. Both were simply prepared each with their own sauce and side. Both were delicious! There was a nice selection of wines - and the real topper for the meal was an aperitif: crema di limoncello. It is made for this restaurant locally. It is a creamy presentation of the Italian limoncello, sort of an Italian "Bailey's". What a great end to the meal!"

Pasta & fish dishes were all good
but be weary if ordering steak. "
Dined on 5/27/2014
Having been to the Francesca's in
the city, I was anticipating a great meal. In terms of the food, I was not disappointed. My ceasar salad was wonderful and asparagus paella first rate. Others at the table had the caprese salad, seafood pasta, and one had the sausage pasta, and all were pleased with their meals. However, in spite of my requesting a quiet table, the place was so noisy that we could hardly hear ourselves speak. My elderly companion couldn't even make herself heard at times. We were indeed shown into an interior room, where it seemed quieter; however, we soon realized that the table next to us was filling with a party of kids. We unfortunately had no option to move. No carpet, no wallpaper=too noisy!"
Dined on 5/10/2014
One of our favorite neighborhood
restaurants. Consistently good food, reasonably priced in attractive surroundings."
Dined on 5/18/2014
The noise level is high. The
tables are so close together that it was hard to squeeze by the tables to leave when we were done. Our waiter was great and the food good, just unfortunately too loud to hold a cobpnversation easily. "
Dined on 5/17/2014
Much too noisy. Couldn't talk.
Order got screwed up but got straightened out. Not enough sauce on 1 pasta dish. Skimpy on salmon in fettuccine dish. Lots of scallops in special fettuccine dish."
Dined on 5/16/2014
$27.00 sirloin special that was
primarily gristle. "
Dined on 5/11/2014
We have dined here at least 20
times in the last couple of years and the food is ALWAYS excellent and NEVER boring! Francesca's North is FIRST CLASS in every possible way."
Dined on 5/11/2014
Between the planned kids
activities we didn't have much time and told Sean our waiter we'd appreciate ordering even before the full party had arrived (taking their choice via text). The waiter totally understood this and got our order into the kitchen promptly, so when the last two people sat down the food arrived that moment. Perfect! Delicious food and out of this world service. We'll be back for a more leisurely dinner soon."
Dined on 5/11/2014
This is a wonderful and reliable
restaurant that we go to often. "
Dined on 5/10/2014
Each time our small company meets
in this area we make sure to head to Francesca's North! Always excellent food and service. The food service is timed just right--not too hurried, allows for a nice leisurely meal. The wait staff is attentive but not intrusive. Highly recommended."
Dined on 5/6/2014
We go often as it is one of our
favorite restaurants. Reasonable, delicious and consistent. Menu always has some of our favorites. "
Dined on 5/2/2014
They seated at a four top right in
front of the open kitchen. They were very nice when we asked to move to one of three available four tops and we did move. They forgot my husband's birthday celebration, noted in my reservation, but were ver accommodating when I reminded them. One dish was too fishy. They took it away, but charged us! Not great management of any of these situations....."
Dined on 5/1/2014
We are always satisfied with our
dining experience at Francesca's North & can rely on the staff to provide reliable service & interesting menu choices. "
Dined on 4/25/2014
The halibut was wonderful. Really
delicious. Francesca's North is my favorite of the Francesca's restaurants, because the food is always prepared so well."
Dined on 4/26/2014
This restaurant needs to put sound
absorbing tiles on their ceiling. The noise level was so bad that no one at our table of 6 will go back there. "
Dined on 4/26/2014
They have the best chicken, pasta
and calamari. We had a nice time on Easter."
Dined on 4/20/2014
I have been dining at this
restaurant for years. It gets better every time we had a made to order pasta that was amazing and even better the next day! I always get the Francesca salad with grilled chicken and it never disappoints. Robin the manager recognized us as regulars and sent us dessert! Talk about great service! Can't wait to go back!"
Dined on 4/13/2014
Francesca's North is not your
everyday Italian place with only the expected Southern dishes. While lasagna and manicotti may appear on the rotating menu, the choices are unique: rigatoni with oxtail ragu, linguine with puttanesca, carpaccio, as well as veal, beef, chicken and seafood dishes that are excellent. Very reasonable wines and great service! Go there again and again!"
Dined on 4/12/2014
Francesca's is a great
neighborhood hangout. The atmosphere/noise level are much more manageable since they added a new room. We have been customers since they opened & would like them to add more variety & try more interesting ingredients especially for the pastas. They say they change the menu daily but they always rotate the same pastas . Portions of "pasta" are very generous but the main ingredients are not. In fact they are very skimpy for what you pay for and on a few occasions we have had to ask them to add some ingredients but they will also charge you disproportionately for it. Other entrees are avgerage/above avg but depends on the day you go. We do hope they take reviews seriously & do not just rest on their laurels."

We have been dining at Francescas
for years. I have seen many Managers come and go. I am hoping to see Ethan stay for a long time. He brings a new positive energy to the Francescas dining experience. He is the ONLY manager in 15 years that has ever stopped by my table to ask how everything was. Food was great as usual, drinks were wonderful, ambience great and a wonderful lively atmosphere."
Dined on 4/3/2014
We're locals and this is our go-to
place. Food ranges from good to great. Prices reasonable. Something for every taste, and they will accommodate dietary needs/desires. Attentive service at minimum, sometimes great. Tip: Saturday lunch features $5 pizzas. Not on menu is pizza verdure which is outstanding--they pile on the veggies and it's so good even a carnivore would love it. Noise level varies depending on crowd size, but generally a bit quieter than most restaurants of its type."
Dined on 3/28/2014
Have not been there in a very long
time. Nice to see the addition. Good food. We'll return soon."
Dined on 3/26/2014
We always love Francesca's North
and this was no exception."
Dined on 3/22/2014
Everyone in the group enjoyed the
atmosphere and the food."
Dined on 3/12/2014
Always loved the chicken dinner,
however, the recipe was changed to make the dish much spicier, and not to my liking. Hope they will return to the original recipe"
Dined on 3/13/2014
We took our two kids (4 and 1) for
dinner. Food was very fresh and tasted fantastic. Service was fine. My only complaint was the noise level was a bit higher than I would have liked. But I guess tha means my kids weren't going to bother anyone."
