A word from Francesca's Bryn Mawr
Francesca’s Bryn Mawr is the 8th restaurant in "The Family of Francesca Restaurants". The original partners of Mia Francesca, Scott Harris, Michael Noone and Terry Alexander have reunited to bring the Edgewater neighborhood a restaurant with a contemporary, casually sophisticated trattoria ambiance, good, rustic cooking, friendly service and fair prices. The menu features the zesty earthy cuisine of Rome and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio.

Located in the Historic District on Bryn Mawr, the building was built in 1927 as the Bryn Mawr Apartment Hotel. It contained 231 one, two and three room luxuriously furnished apartments. The building also included nine stores along the entire Bryn Mawr Avenue front. The building underwent a complete restoration in 1999.

It is the perfect place for groups to get together! You can order off the menu (for parties up to 16) or let our Party Planner help you with a special event.

Diner Reviews
  • "My husband's family were Italian, from Taylor Street, and there were many great cooks among them. So when we go out for Italian food, he has high standards indeed! We recently met friends at Francesca's on Bryn Mawr for dinner, and it was absolutely wonderful. The salmon was perfectly cooked. The pasta dishes were fresh, vibrantly spiced, just outstanding. The tiramisu was to-die-for. Our dinner companions will be visiting Francesca's on Taylor Street soon, now that they have experienced the Bryn Mawr location. We are relocating to Denver next week - when will Francesca's open a Denver location?! We will be back for dinner again, when we visit our friends in this great city of Chicago."

  • "The carpaccio appetizer -- with avocado, capers, tomatoes and shaved Parmesan -- was very tasty. Each of the four of us got a fish entree, and we all cleaned our plates. The portions weren't huge -- you really do need an appetizer or salad to make a full meal -- but the preparations were thoughtful and complimented, without overpowering, the taste of the fish."

  • "Another feather in the cap of the Francescas chain. Good all around."

  • "I have loved this restaurant since it opened even before i lived in the neighborhood. It's one of the best restaurants in the neighborhood. I love it!"

  • "Before going to Edgewater's amazing RedTwist Theatre, we make a point of going to Francesca's on Bryn Mawr. We are able to walk or take the bus there but Francesca's offers valet that's good during the show and is also a dining partner with the theatre, so you can get 15% off your restaurant bill, too. I had a special salad-like dish - wonderful cubes of juicy watermelon on a bed of prosciutto and drizzled with balsamic. OUTSTANDING. then a small pizza with eggplant and anchovy fabulous. had to take 1/2 the pizza with me but it's a terrific "leftover pizza", too! Other diners had calamari, a special roasted corn summer salad, a chicken dish for one and a risotto for the other ... We were quite satisfied. Service GREAT!!"

  • "When I was searching for a reliable spot to take my family while visiting our son and his girlfriend in Edgewater I saw that there was a Francesca's in the area. We are big fans of our local St. Charles Francesca's and their restaurant on Taylor Street in Chicago. Bryn Mawr did not disappoint. The food and service were excellent"

  • "This neighborhood version of the Francesca family of restaurants lives up to the reputation of the original namesake. Consistent quality visit after visit. It belongs near the top of the list of the town's Italian restaurants."

  • "That's on Thursdays. And they remind you that you can take home any remainder. And on a daily basis, things are very well priced and the portions are very nice. Some of the best presented carpaccio. Pastas are excellent with many fresh ingredients. They are a little light handed with the seasoning but fresh pepper and Parmesan are offered liberally and there's a salt shaker. Nice cocktail list, great desserts. Pizzas are well priced and there are many DIY combos. Very friendly service at all levels. Dessert list tempts most everyone. Great place to snack or dine regularly."

  • "Food and service were both very good. However, there was a strong sewer gas smell that was evident as soon as we walked in the restaurant and remained evident throughout our meal."

  • "I'm a lover of Italian Cuisine and my recent lunch and dinner experience made Francesca my new favorite restaurant and being right in my neighborhood is a bonus."

  • "An all-around excellent restaurant. Good food beautifully prepared, good value, friendly, flexible service. Can accommodate all sorts of events, from a large birthday gathering to a quiet romantic evening. Nice outdoor facility too. Always crowded but not too crowded."

  • "We had very good service from a friendly waiter who took a lot of time to explain the various dishes. Overall, we were pleased with the food. The location was perfect to accommodate us for our evening plans. It really is a neighborhood gem."

  • "Great Food. Great Service. Reasonable Pricing. Half-Priced Bottled Wine on Thursdays!"

  • "We have gone to Francesca's Bryn Mawr several times and usually prefer it to the other locations of Francesca's, because it is quieter and less crowded. Two non dairy eaters ordered what they thought was the perfect item on the menu: ravioli stuffed with vegetables. It listed all of the ingredients and no cheese was in it. The server confirmed there was no cheese. When it came filled with cheese, the server apologized and said it would be replaced immediately. It took forever, and the rest of us had finished. It was a fiasco. Server offered free dessert but there was nothing dairy free. A manager should have gotten involved and taken their dinner off of the bill. We will not return to this Francesca's."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner at Franchescas. Out waiter was attentive but not overbearing. Our food and drinks came quickly and all dishes were delicious. We are planning on going back to enjoy the outdoor seating area."

  • "and the service is gracious. They really try to please. We had dinner on Father's Day, so it was a little less perfect as far as the service. We all liked our food, and took some home. My favourite Francesca's are this one, the one on Clark, and the one on Taylor. Truly a neighborhood gem at reasonable prices. Last Thursday I took my girlfriend for lunch, and we had the best red wine in the house at 50% of the price! We didn't know about this until we got there---pleasant surprise."

  • "Superb jazz ambiance, loved the Chet Baker music in the background, and as usual outstanding food and service. Thanks so much!"

  • "We always have a great experience at Francesca's. We had some traffic issues and arrived about 10 minutes past our reservation time. The staff was very kind and still sat us immediately. Our servers were awesome. We had there little kids with us and the staff was very patient and also made sure the meal moved along at a steady pace. Food, drinks, and desserts were delicious. We had a great evening!"

  • "We like this neighborhood gem. It has consistent food and service. One odd thing here is that if you're looking for typical lasagna you won't find it on the night where lasagna is the featured event. It's some avant garde type. Oh well to each it's own as they have many other great dishes."
    Dined on 6/9/2014
  • "This is on my neighborhood "go-to" list. It's great to find a close to home place that has very good food, nice atmosphere & service. We ordered salads, sides, entrees, dessert and drinks and the bill was affordable. Who could ask for more?"
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "The menu was too limited, and the food was not remarkable. The bread we were served was so over-toasted it should never even have been served. The waiter was nice, though."

  • "The food and the service are always terrific here. So far, have not had one dish that was prepared poorly. I take all visiting guest here even when we do not attend a show!"

  • "I can't say enough about this gem. I had Eggs Sardou and a slice of melon wrapped with prosciutto, drizzled with balsamic vinegar. My beloved had a braised pork skillet hash, a cocktail with coffee. We sat in a booth and just enjoyed our branch . The price is very reasonable and, you can't go wrong with a $5 Kir Royale. "

  • "Our group of eight all enjoyed our meals. Nice neighborhood spot. When we go again I will insist on a moderate pace of service. Our food came out very quickly and our dinner probably took less than an hour, including appetizers and dessert. We felt rushed, and there was no pressure to turn the table. I'm sure they would work with you if wanted a more casual pace. "

  • "My friend and I enjoyed and relished the whole experience. We felt like dining at home with a host catering to whatever we needed from water to drinks, etc. What was nice is the minimum disturbance from our waiter. Our conversation was continuous, animated and joyful! My thumbs down? No choice of bread. Also, the brunch would have been great with a choice of Italian dishes. I was expecting lasagna or pasta being my first time in what sounds like an Italian restaurant."

  • "Francesca's Bryn Mawr has special each night of the week. We were here on a Thursday night and it was half off any bottle of wine. So it's a great time to select that bottle you really want, but typically don't select because it's overpriced!"

  • "Great time at brunch the food was outstanding, service great and the décor was beautiful. Older restaurant restored to perfection. We had a group of 4 and shared 5 entree's because we could not decide. Blueberry pancakes for a appetizer with ricotta they were so delicious! The rest of the food was so good too! Great cocktails with several on special for $5 what more could you want? Will definitely be back!"

  • "We've eaten dinner at Francesca's many times, but had never had brunch before. I didn't even realize that they offered brunch at the Bryn Mawr location. We were really impressed. There was a great variety of items on the menu, every thing we ordered was great, and the prices were very reasonable. We definitely have a new spot to consider for Brunch!"
