The Fountain Bistro's Restaurant Week menu was imaginative and varied. I had a great salad, tenderloin and chocolate creme brûlée. My husband had delicious seafood chowder, duck confit and apple galette. Everything was soooo good! My husband also chose the wine pairings with each course and they were perfect, complementing the food and accentuating the wine.

We enjoyed our dinner during Detroit Restaurant Week. The staff was attentive and helpful; just the right time between servings. The food was delicious. The wall of windows let us enjoy the Campus Martius Park and Detroit skyline. We definitely will spread the word by telling our family and friends and would love to go back.

I had no idea Campus Martius was so cool. I'm sure those in the city know, but coming from the suburbs I didn't even know this restaurant existed. I highly recommend it. If we can get more areas and businesses like this downtown, we could become cooler than Chicago (we have much more interesting architecture!)

We joined a group of 10 others for brunch. Service was much better than what I thought it would be for a group of 14. Waiter was friendly and on top of everything. Food was good and drinks plentiful. Lots of people around so it was great for people watching as well. Loved the place.

Great atmosphere. We sat outside and were given great service and had some fantastic food. The menu was a little smaller than what Open Table had listed on the iphone app, but the food was still very good. Another plus, was that it is right by the water fountain and we had a great view of that and all the people walking around the fountain. The noise level was great, but there was a Saturday night movie night that started playing toward the end of our meal, but it was not too loud to ignore. This was a great restaurant and wasn't busy for a Saturday night at 8:30pm. We will be coming back.

Thought we would give it another try. I really want to like this place. Please improve your service!! Please! There are a few ladies outside busting their butts...inside it's awful. We watched the manager screw with the gelato machine for an hour and eat the last special (looked good). The bartender tried to do his job and wait on us since the waitstaff was primarily focused outside. We found the same problem a year ago in the winter... You've got a prime location. Secret shop yourself. Try a survey. Anything. It's just not up to the level of service you need for your entree price. Alternatively, cut your prices and serve bar food. I don't expect as much if I'm paying $8 for a sandwich.

Worst dining experience I've had in several years, specifically in the high-end segment. Restaurant was 10% full but service was slow and inattentive. Dishes arrived incomplete (e.g. our appetizer was missing components) and our 2nd round of drinks never arrived (they were charged on the final bill; waitress removed the charge when we pointed out she never served them). The food: We couldn't help laughing when the Bistro Burger arrived alone on its plate, set off to one side, making the lack of a side item painfully obvious. (Would have expected some handcut designer fries or amazing onions.) The burger was not impressive enough to garner the $16 price on its own. Our other entree, a pasta ($22), was gummy and stuck together like a brick.

My boyfriend and I were looking for brunch place on a Sunday afternoon and decided to try this place. It's in a great location in campus marsius right by the fountain, which was beautiful. Our waitress was nice but she kept forgetting our orders. And when one of my friends asked her what pancetta was just replied and said it was a type of lettuce...so no knowledge whatsoever of food! The food was mediocre at best. The only plus of this restaurant is the location

This was our first time to this restaurant. It was our dinner date before Turandot. Fun, casually noisy, busy, still relaxing atmosphere. We will stop by for a drink next time we are in the area. The patio area looked great but it was not warm enough to enjoy. Maybe next time.

Nikia, our server, and Anthony, the manager, made our Mothers Day celebration even more special, by spending time with us, getting to know us and by welcoming us like we're there all the time. The food was delicious, the atmosphere (and weather) perfect and the value for the money was high. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be back soon!

    Dined on 4/28/2014
Attended the Somm Slam Monday night. First time at Fountain Bistro. Great atmosphere and location, helpful staff. However, I don't think the kitchen staff was prepared to serve 60 plated meals for four courses. Took way too long between courses. The event started at 6:30 and didn't end until just before 11:00. The wagyu beef was rare for everyone at our table and was pretty much inedible. The dessert course was inexcusable. A couple brownie wedges and and small square of jello all covered in pop rocks were called a dessert?! Floored by how bad that was. But the people we met at our table were fantastic and the wine pairing was delicious. Great concept...poor execution on the kitchen. I hope the next is better.

  • What Brunch?!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2014
    Dined on 4/20/2014
I was EXTREMELY disappointed with this restaurant claiming that they had an Easter Brunch. Brunch is a combination of breakfast and lunch. They only had breakfast and it was not a buffet; it was only a la carte items. They were no lunch items on the menu whatsoever!! The waitress was horrible; she didn't even know what brunch was....REALLY?! To say the least, I was really upset with the whole situation. When we asked the manager about the "brunch" selections, he said they call it their a la carte brunch. Well they should stop advertising that they offer brunch and call it what it is Breakfast. I could have made a better brunch than what they offered. The only good thing about the day was the beautiful view of downtown Detroit!

A group of four of us made a reservation for Detroit Restaurant Week. We showed up on time and were greeted by a friendly hostess and quickly shown to our table, which was in a beautiful corner location with an amazing view of the fountain and park. Everyone agreed that each of the three courses were delicious, but table favorites were the summer carrot and corn soup served with dollop of coconut basil gelato and the juniper brined pork chop, which was huge and perfectly prepared. We all agreed that we will come back soon.

I had been wanting to try Fountain Bistro for some time, and I thought that Detroit Restaurant Week would be a perfect time to visit. The view of the fountain and the outdoor seating area was beautiful. Our waitress, Dania, was knowledgeable and even asked us if the temperature was comfortable in the area where we sat. Our first course, soup, was delicious. I loved the pairing of spicy corn/carrots with coconut gelato. Our main courses were tasty and the presentation was beautiful. The chef himself came out to greet us, which made the whole restaurant experience even more worthwhile. Overall, it was a great dining experience, with good food and wonderful service. I will definitely be back.

We knew that space would be limited, so I didn't mind the credit card requirement when making a reservation. It did provide some stress trying to find parking in time so that I wouldn't get charged. We were disappointed when seated next to the door to the kitchen. When we asked if we could be moved, the hostess said that the other tables were reserved for a party that never came. We also later saw a pair seated in the patio area. The keg was being changed, which was not a problem, but then the beer didn't arrive until a long time later. The wait between the first and second course was excruciating, especially as we saw 4 lamb dishes waiting in the kitchen and our server rarely came by. The brownie was unappealing and looked boxed.

The food was thoughtfully prepared and delicious, the wine list was excellent, and our server went above and beyond the call of duty to make our celebration memorable. I was a little disappointed when I arrived, on time, for my reservation to find out that they had overbooked and the only table they had for us was outside. Granted the patio was covered and heated, but it was only about 35 degrees outside and raining. That being said, it was warm and we were comfortable. I was more upset that I had not been notified of the overbooking and was not given a choice of seating when I had a reservation. The view of the fountain was lovely and the patio would be a great place to sit on a warmer day. I was not terribly impressed with the food, but we had no issues with the service, and the restaurant is in such a great location, that I'd definitely be willing to give them another chance.
