The menu is extensive here, so it's easy to get distracted and order something kind of mediocre. Stick with the basics: The chicken and waffles is always a good choice. Their biscuits are especially good. The benedicts for brunch were really good, first time I've ever had them. It's a beautiful location, too. Really nice interior work, especially some of the finishes they picked on the booths and such. It's one of the better options in the immediate area, even if the place is loud.

I had family in town who wanted a variety of things (seafood, vegetarian, southern, etc.) and everyone loved Founding Farmers. My brother had crab cakes and substituted collard greens with his order, and said they were the best collards he had other than his own and the crab cakes were delicious. I had the veggie mushroom risotto, and it was great. Husband had a burger and enjoyed it, and my niece had a really wonderful ravioli with blue cheese. We all split fried tomatoes and a bread basket w/dips, and I just wish that the homemade pimento cheese was sold by the bucket, because it is so good. I wish it wasn't quite so loud there, but the service and food were fantastic and we had a great evening.

Founding Farmers has great food and ambience, but the employees do not understand the definition of the word "reservation". I made a reservation for 8 two weeks ago. I showed up at 7:55 with three of the 8 and we were not seated until 8:30. More party members showed up in the meantime. We were given free appetizers with our meal, which I appreciate, but it shouldn't have happen in the first place. It was a hassle and a bad experience and will go somewhere else.

Great food and friendly, attentive service, for the most part. The mushroom swiss reuben was awesome! Salads were good. I liked the spicy marinara, but my friend didn't like the texture of the noodles so much. I didn't mind them. We ordered the Black Pepper Soy Wings appetizer, thinking it was vegetarian. When explained to the waitress and asked to take it back, the waitress didn't look too happy at first, but then came back later and apologized for the mix up. However, it wasn't taken off the bill, and if we didn't ask, we would have paid for them anyway. The Beignets were really good! The restaurant is a little hard to find, and the parking is difficult, due to construction, but overall, we had a good experience.

I live in Arlington and so I usually frequent the locations in DC. We chose this location and we were disappointed. My friend ordered the chicken and waffles and found the waffle bland and the string beans "not great." I ordered short ribs with mashed potatoes and collard greens. The short rib was 50% fat! The mashed potatoes and collard greens were cold and the collard greens were dry. We were very disappointed and do not plan to return to this location.

I visited w/ my mom, husband and 3yr old. We had a1:15 reservation, we arrived around 1:10; when I checked in with the hostess she told us that it would be about a 15 min wait for our table. Twenty min. passed and I walked back and ask how much longer she said again about 15 more min. We were seated about 5 minutes after that. In all we waited about 25 minutes WITH a reservation, which is what the wait was, for walk in customers! What's the benefit of having a reservation when you still have to wait? Also there is no kids menu or even smaller portions for kids. No kid friendly cups, my daughter was given her juice in a coffee to-go cup with a straw! Overall the food was good with generous portions and I will definitely eat here again.

The food was very good, but service was slow. While it was a very busy Sunday, I would have expected they were used to it. Also it was extremely noisy (no sound absorbing materials on walls or floor), so it is not the place to carry on a serious conversation.

although the food was quite good, we found the service to be very bad. For example, our table ordered pancakes and French toast, which were brought to the table with no syrup. We requested syrup at the time, and the server said of course, but then never brought the syrup. 10 minutes after the food was delivered and numerous attempts to gain the attention of a wait staff, I walked over to a service station for the waiters to pick up a bottle of syrup that had been used by another table. Of course by this time, the food was cold. Another server was pouring coffee and I raised my hand to ask for a refill- it was clear he looked at me, but then he turned and walked away from the table to put the coffee pot down. I will not return given this

This trip to Founding Farmers proved excellent customer service in that my friend who is on a stringent elimination diet due to trying to diagnose causes to medical symptom thought she could only eat a bowl of fruit after looking at the menu online. However when we got there our waiter, Andrew, after finding out what was going on took the time to get a list from her and discuss with the kitchen to find out exactly what else she could eat. It ended up there was more and she had a lovely first time eating there and would not be afraid to come back.

We are gin drinkers, so were looking forward to trying the fabulous creative gin concoctions at the bar. Excellent! Our food was also first rate - especially loved the warn beignets for dessert. The restaurant was busy and the noise level is high - probably not the best venue for intimate conversation. Also, when we arrived for our 7:15 reservation we were told they were just seating the 7:00's , so would be a few minutes late..... A few minutes turned into an hour and we were not seated until 8:15. This would have been a major problem if we had a babysitter at home or some such time constraint, but since we were free birds that night we just went with it and had fun at the bar. Definitely want to come back.

The food at Founding Farmers has always been delicious for us, and service has always been okay or good. However, we love custom cocktails, and were pretty disappointed this particular evening. The Martinez was OK (maybe just not my taste), but Nice Coat went overboard on sourness (although not quite undrinkable), and Chief's Scorpion tasted like fruity cough syrup. In short, whoever was mixing the drinks wasn't doing them properly.

Love the mac and cheese, biscuits too! Great selection of beers on tap. We (group of 5) ordered table biscuits, but there was an expected 20-minute backlog for biscuits...who knew that could happen. So we decided to forgo the biscuits...and then were offered some later on the house once they were available -- fantastic!! All main dishes were first rate, as usual, perhaps chicken and waffles hits the highest note. Such welcoming and considerate staff team, one and all from start to finish, made this a fun and memorable visit.

This was the fourth time I dined at Founding Farmers since May, because the first time I went it was spectacular. I want to take my colleagues there. Unfortunately the last two times the drinks were subpar and the food was not prepared correctly. We returned one dark and stormy because the ginger beer was essentially carbonated water and it took nearly 15 minutes to replace it. Worse still when two out of three steaks were returned because they were not prepared as ordered no one from the management team delivered the food or came to check on us. Our server was completely unapologetic. Dreadful, embarrassing (since I recommended the place so highly) experience, will not go back.

Dinner outside was wonderful. We chose to eat outside because inside is always VERY loud… not just noisy… LOUD. It is better upstairs and much better outside. We had a time constraint and our server, Allie, made sure we were promptly served and done in plenty of time. Food was excellent, as usual.

Why it is that so many places choose to foresake interiors and insist on hard surfaces throughout. Exposed pipes and vents are so outdated. Yet, this is exactly what FF has done to itself. The food was good enough, though the drinks and wine are way over-priced and not that notable ($12/18 for okay rose & chardonnay!!). We could not wait to exit so that our hearing and conversation would return to normal. We'll chalk this place off of our future lists.

We eat here regularly and they changes the menu so there are no longer any descriptions. At most restaurants this isn't a problem, but founding often add new twists to their plates. For example, my husband and I each had a hash for brunch. I order the beef goat cheese. It was cooked perfectly and was very good except it was topped with a sauce that had a lot of Mustard and I HATE mustard. My husband also hates mustard so we would have ordered differently if we had known. Otherwise we enjoy FF and take our out of town guests there.

Had a great breakfast with part of the family (wife and son). The steak and eggs were fantastic. The scrambled eggs were the best eggs ever. I am sure they had a lot of butter in them to get them that good. the steak along with the eggs was prepared perfectly. The eggs dragged thru the garden was also excellent and my wife's french toast was very good too. Of course we had the Begnets(sp?) and they were great. Andy our server was also outstanding. Thorough. Pleasant. Top Notch.

Although the building has underground parking, there's no entrance into the restaurant from the lobby or an awning you can walk under. The food was terrific if you could wait for service from a very disinterested staff. The $12 Bloody Marys were sold as pepper infused Vodka... but reality is that it was loaded with cracked pepper which made it undrinkable without swallowing a pile of pepper. I was a bartender in my past and I would never make them this poorly.... terrible.... and for $12? SO disappointed that they wouldn't refund me. In any case... go for the food... drinking there is pricey and not worth it... but the food is comfort style fresh food...

I've been to FF before and would say the service was not on par with the other visits. It all seemed kind of rushed. Our server never checked in on how our food was. My shrimp had pieces of shell still on it and when they're smothered in gravy/grits there was no way for me to know until I ate it. Gross. Turned me off to the dish. Overall, it's a cute restaurant but the noise level on the second floor is too much. I could hear the entire conversation of the table next to us and barely could get a sentence out without repeating myself. For the price of entrees I would want to feel less like I'm in a TGIFridays.

Many of my co-workers have been to this restaurant, but I had not previously joined them. A new director recommended this as a close-by location with great gluten-free options. They were very flexible with the "edits" I desired for my order. I was surprised it took so long for orders to come out; I expected fewer people at 2PM in the restaurant, but we did have a party of 9. I wish there were a bit more detail in the menu; I kept trying to avoid un-welcome items in my salad which were not listed. I neglected to say "no avocado," so I spent the first few minutes of my meal fishing out avocado, which I REALLY HATE. And besides wishing there were more ice in the water, I had no other regrets.

It was Labor Day at 6:00 p.m. Glad we had a reservation ... our table however was in a very noisy spot and hot ... couldn't feel the AC and we didn't get ice in our water to begin with. But our server was great and made our time there pleasant in spite of the noise level. One of the four of us had the rock fish ($29, a little overpriced) which was overcooked and the broccolini was way undercooked. Two of us had the chicken, one Southern and one Northern ... we agreed the Northern was the crispier but it was a little overdone. Fish and chips were satisfactory. Felt we were there at the wrong time on the wrong day, but weren't thrilled enough with anything to plan a return trip in the near future.
