  • Entertainment: The bar at Founding Farmers is a truly unique and innovative experience, with true mixologists specially trained in 'bar-chefing'. The bar menu harkens back to the pre-Prohibition era with handcrafted cocktails that use juices and mixers prepared by hand as well as Fountain Sodas and Phosphates, prepared to order. Founding Farmers has been recognized by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington for two consecutive years, 2010 and 2011, as having one of the area's best beverage/mixology programs and received the top prize for Best Bar/Beverage Program in the group's 2011 RAMMY Awards.
  • Special Events & Promotions: MoCo's Founding Farmers includes is a second floor mezzanine level that is ideal for special gatherings, business meeting, parties or corporate events any time of day, for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The mezzanine can accommodate up to 75 guests comfortably seated for dinner, or up to 100 guests for a standing reception. The full restaurant is also available for buyouts.

In addition to serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, MoCo's Founding Farmers hosts a unique “Afternoon Social,” providing a modern afternoon break for area entrepreneurs looking for a respite from coffee houses, local mom groups with toddlers in tow and retirees craving a place to socialize and a bite to eat. The Afternoon Social menu features tea sandwiches, scones, tea, cocktails, cookies and other desserts.

  • "My second breakfast at Founding Farmers was delightful. The food was well done, the service was outstanding, and much to my surprise the restaurant was less busy than usual. Of course, we were there at 7:30 am. I've been to Founding Farmer's on many occasions, and have found the food to be consistently good. A major plus in these days, is that the menu offers vegans and vegetarians some excellent options. The noise level can make it harder for older diners at lunch or dinner when the restaurant is full. Breakfast is an excellent way to catch up with friends and enjoy good food and outstanding service."

  • "I took my nephew because he has been craving chicken and waffles and I was told from a friend who has been to your restaurant how great it was so I decided to try. My nephew (16) ate everything and has rated this has his new favourite restaurant. Everything I ate was delcious, I enjoyed my meal immensely, I plan on returing with family and friends because I know they will enjoy it. I ordered the beignet to go and I shared it with family and I'm going back this weekend to order more, it was so good. Overall I enjoyed my visit to Founding Farmers and I will return. Thanks for the great food and great service."

  • "Honestly I hoped for much better but I was underwhelmed. Love love love the freshness of the ingredients and the modern urban farmhouse feel. The servers were decent. The menu was limited in basic nutritional balance while accounting for every vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, pork free customer that could walk through the door. Don't get me wrong, the food was delicious and there were no major incidents but I felt that the offerings and flavors were nothing to write home about and certainly nothing to spend well over $100 on. The funky glassware and mailboxes to deliver the checks felt hokey and forced. For my dollar, I can get fresh, local, and not corporate fare elsewhere. Nice try, the masses will probably love it.   • "2 kids (9 and 12) and four adults: a vegan, a sometimes vegetarian with cancer who is very careful about choosing foods, and 2 omnivores. We ate Senate soup, scallops, pulled pork, hot dogs, fried chicken, and pasta, fried green tomatoes and deviled egg combo platter. Each dish was carefully prepared, arrived at the proper temperature and was tasty. Our table of 6 was served on time. Server was friendly and service was good and not intrusive, which is a welcome change from most restaurants where the servers want to be overly friendly, in my opinion. Desserts were good, but enormous. Considering the ample portions of food, I suggest the food managers consider the size of the cake portions; they can easily be 25% of what was served."

  • "I love going to Founding Farmer's for dinner. The food is good and fresh and really not expensive compared to other nice dining options. I had the fried chicken for the first time and it was tasty and moist, but could have used more spice/kick. The sautéed kale that was a veggie selection that evening could have been cooked more (kale a bit tough), it was tasty and creative with cabbage and pears. It's always crowded and a bit noisy at Founding Farmer's, but that is part of their vibe."

  • "Normally I would give this place five stars across the board. This was our sixth time dining and the first time we had any snafus, though granted they were small ones. It took over fifteen minutes for anyone to offer us water or greet us at our table. A young man who wasn't our server put a drink order in for us. And then it took another ten minutes to meet our actual server who had likely just started her shift. In short, that wasn't a great start but the rest of the evening was fine in that department. The food was very good. They crazy corn salad and mushroom reuben were delicious. The organic cucumber delight is an amazing cocktail. The carrot cake was fine but forgettable. A good night but the restaurant wasn't at its best."

  • "Went there for my birthday lunch/dinner/linner(?). I got a burger and my mom got their four cheese ravioli and both were great. Our initial server at a ratty attitude but then she said that she was leaving and we got a new server and she was super cute and nice. The only downside was that I had to pay $10 for just soda... I got their grapefruit soda and finished it before my food came. I was willing to pay the $5 that it cost because it was some good soda. Our new server came around and asked me if i wanted another one but little did I know that there weren't any refills. So, I ended up paying $10 for two glasses of soda... and now I know. We will definitely be back for the food but I'm probably going to stick with water."

  • "We love the food here but the quality of the operation is really slipping. We had someone in our party with trouble hearing so when we made the reservation, we requested a table upstairs where it is a little quieter. I called the day of and reconfirmed that we wanted a table upstairs and was told that we would be accommodated. But when we arrived, on time, we were told if we "really" wanted a table upstairs we'd have to wait 20 minutes because nothing was available. So all the requests were fruitless. Then, when we came down in the elevator after dinner, the senior citizen in our party had to try to wedge her way out past all the high chairs and extra seats they had piled up right in front of the elevator and blocking the hallway. Really?"

They were overlooked. My pancake was good but not hot. Had to wait for refill on coffee. This was not what we expected. We have eaten here several times and been very happy with service and food. No manager around to ask "and how was everything?""

  • "Maybe I had higher expectations for the MoCo Founding Farmers, after enjoying the branch in the District. For whatever reason, the setting was suburban, the food ordinary, and nothing about the occasion was very memorable. The food choices were somewhat limited, and undistinguished. My order was heavy, with uncrisp fish and fries. To the restaurant's credit, items were identified that were appropriate for vegans and vegetarians. The meat loaf was quite good, and the prices were moderate. If I found myself in the neighborhood, I might go again, but I would not go out of my way to dine there."

  • "The food was very good, quirky, adventurous and plentiful. I got a sampler plate with several meats on it. All were tasty. I wasn't expecting a corn on the cob with the meal and it turned out to be not only the best thing on the plate, but the best version i had ever tasted. The server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The decor is fine-- not something to make it a destination for just that, but enough out of the mainstream to be interesting. While not so loud that one couldn't carry on a conversation, it was necessary to speak in loud voices to do so. A little dampening of the noise level would go a long way to making it a more pleasant and relaxing experience."

  • "Not a good night. I ordered meatloaf with brocollini and Mac and cheese. The meatloaf was so salty, it was inedible and had so much sage or thyme that I ended up only eating 3 bites out of the huge slice that I had. The brocollini was cold and the Mac and cheese gritty. My friend ordered the mini burgers and enjoyed them but her tomato soup was so salty that she could only eat one spoonful. At one point dinner a menu came flying over From balcony dining room knocking over both drinks that were on our table. The manager came by and said that sometimes kids dining upstairs throw things off of the balcony (really?) no effort to clean up the wet table and floor. Not a good night. I'll have to think twice about going back."

  • "This was not my first trip to Founding Farmers, and as usual, I was not let down. I have now been for brunch, lunch, and dinner and have thoroughly enjoyed working my way through the menu. The extensive meatless menu juxtaposed with down home meat loaf and roast chicken dishes provides something for everyone (including myself and my husband!). Items that I wish to try soon are the begneits and one of the egg tarts. My only critique is that this type of farm to table dining has a sort of "health halo", and the food and Founding Farmers is not necessarily healthy--so beware! If you are not looking for a low calorie meal, no worries :)"

  • "My husband and I went there for breakfast for our anniversary ( the only free time on that day). We had not been there before but had heard good things about it. It exceeded our expectations by far! The service was terrific, the food just as good. The beignets were recommended byour server and were possibly the best part of the meal, they were delicious!!! We sat at our table thinking of upcoming occasions we have and who we would love to bring back with us! Thank you"

  • "My 3rd visit to the MoCo Founding Farmers & service continues to be an issue. Menu is broad so this is good place for a variety of eaters. We were a party of 3 and 1 of us went to the restroom when we got to the table. The server appeared immediatley & asked for our drink order. Then we waited. Server came back & took the drink order. Then we waited. Finally got our beers & placed an order for 2 starters, 2 salads & 3 entrees. Then we waited. Out comes 1(cooked) appetizer. Within 5 minutes we received the 2 salads. Asked about the other appetizer (raw vegetables) that showed up with our 3 entrees. I was still eating my salad & they tried to take the plate from me. Really? Food was fine but I was in & out in an hour. Why the rush?"

  • "Founding Farmers is a frequent stop for me when traveling to/from Washington D.C. The food is always so fresh and delicious and I find the atmosphere to be relaxing and a bit whimsical. They have a great selection of drinks, salads, appetizers, small plates, and entrees. This time around, I had the Corn Chowder and was very impressed. It was the perfect combination of sweetness and spice. Looking forward to my next visit!"

  • "Dined here with my family. When I asked for a signature Manhattan cocktail "on the rocks" I was informed that it is served straight up. So I ordered a Manhattan with Makers Mark on the rocks and paid a $1 extra for the privilege of having the drink the way I wanted it. Customer service, not so much. The drinks took a long time to come followed almost immediately by the salads two of us had ordered but before the two appetizers we had also ordered. The server offered to take the salads back but then what? We declined. The main courses were fine but nothing to write home about. Overall a disappointing evening and I won't hurry back if ever."

  • "Overall good. Disappointed in the meatloaf-tasted like black pepper and was dry. Surprising given it was a signature dish. Maybe the pepper shaker broke into the batch. Rest of the food good. (Pot roast, salmon plank, fish and chips, crispy shrimp). Told the waitress about the meatloaf, but nothing was done... Also the size of the desserts should be disclosed, we certainly didn't need five very large desserts! All but one dessert was a hit. We had apple pie, cheesecake, red velvet, carrot cake and chocolate mousse cake - the chocolate mousse cake tasted like cardboard/fake cake,( the person wouldn't order that again.) Thank you for the opportunity to review."
