Thought food wasfresh & inventive; but wine and food overall were expensive; the major down side was the noise level---the music is not necessary---and the crowd seen: it is not an intimate setting; if one wants to see everyone he/she knows, it is the place to "be.' if one wants quiet and more private setting, head elsewhere. Little too hip for me; the farm to table concept sounds good.

I am familiar with the DC location and LOVE it! This newly opened restaurant is still working out the kinks, but the food was delicious and the staff was pleasant. I'm looking forward to see how the team and restaurant scene develops!

The restaurant was different, in a good way. They offer a twist on some traditional American dishes. The Patomac location is new, and they still have some kinks to work out with food preparation. My Ribeye was too salty, and the bread pudding was cold in the middle. Service was great, and I would give it another try down the road.

It might take a while for them to get all the kinks worked out - a tough job with a packed house every night since they opened - but I think they will get it together and will be up to the standards of their downtown restaurant. Patience is the word?

  • The worst service anywhere!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009VIP
    Dined on 11/7/2011
We have been to Founding Farmers 3 times since the Potomac location opened. The food is good, although I think the portions are ridiculously large. Unfortunately, the service remains among the worst I have experienced. For breakfast today we waited at least 10 minutes after being seated before anyone approached the table. We had to wait a long time for cream after the coffee was poured. We had to ask for everything - butter, water, coffee refills, etc because the server didn't anticipate anything that we might need. Our first visit was for dinner shortly after the restaurant opened. We excused the poor service then, thinking they just needed to work out the kinks. Several months later, that excuse is not valid.

I have been to Founding Farmers three times. Three times a charm! The food gets better and better. I have been to dinner twice and lunch once. I hear brunch is to die for:) The service is getting better is probably the only bad thing that I could mention. There is something on the menu for everyone. Whether it is a family outing, date night, girls night out, or just dinner with friends, you are sure to have a FANTASTIC TIME. The General Manager Kathy makes you feel like you are home. She stops by to see how your meal is and makes you feel like you live in a small city rather than the DMV. I met her once on opening week,a month later she stopped by - remembered my name and thanked me for coming back - what more can u ask for!!!

You need to take into account that this restaurant was open less than a week when we ate there. The food was very good, but it took 25 minutes for a hamburger and a salad to arrive. Based on the reputation of the DC location, I will go back for another try and hope the service improves. Don't go for a quiet meal...it was loud. If you wear anything more than jeans, you will be very overdressed.

The food was absolutely delicious, but the service wasn't. It's brand new, so we'll give them a chance to adjust. With a reservation, we still had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. The waitress took our appetizer and drinks order and brought the drinks before we ordered dinner. The appetizer, soup, salads and entrees were all served at the same time. (Good thing we hadn't ordered dessert or that probably would have come too!) There was barely enough room on the table. After she saw what happened I think she was embarrassed to come back to the table, so we didn't see her again till we were finished with everything.

not quite as good as downtown location. They were out of some food, didn't have some of their ovens working, and we received food not quite at the correct temperature. Being that they just opened, I think this will improve over time. Overall, our experience was good. Just waiting to see what the restaurant will be like in a few months after they get some of the kinks worked out.

We were there the opening weekend, and expected some glitches, but it was much worse than we expected. They didn't have the reservation we had made on Open Table, the heating system was broken and pouring cold air on us, and the food we wanted to order wasn't available because the oven wasn't working. If the food had been excellent we would want to go back to see if things got any better, but since the food was only so-so, I doubt we will return.

Our brunch took about 40 minutes to arrive. When we finally got it, one dish was hot and the rest were cold -- obviously, they held up the whole order while they tried to correct a mistake. The hot dish was badly over-salted. The wait staff did not come to update us on what was going on -- actually avoided coming to our table.

I've never been to the Founding Farmers downtown but the friends we went with said this atmosphere was much different - almost all families, which is to be expected in the suburbs. The food was great and the whole place is very low-key. The service was very slow - we waited about 15 minutes for water and about 30 minutes for our food from the time we ordered it. This may be because it was the opening weekend. Also, our beignets were slightly raw on the inside - not sure if they were supposed to be like that.

Opened with a fair amount of kinks and not up to par with the DC location. Food was cold and when refired, it was bland and still somewhat cold. Hopefully they work out the kinks with the kitchen sooner than later. Ambiance was very noisy, so dont expect anything too intimate. Overall we were unimpressed and even at the bargain prices, it still wasn't worth the lack of salt and pepper that we had in each plate. On a high note our waitress was great, she did not charge us for the uneaten food and was very apologetic. So they are making an effort. In this economy and with the precarious nature of restaurants, it remains to be seen how far that effort will take them.

Lots of potential. Pretty but noisy space. upstairs was cold b/c of many vents blowing directly on diners. Recent opening must explain service issues. Wait staff was fine but kitchen timing is off. Long wait for appetizers-soup arrived cold, and main courses arrived three minutes after that-also cold. The "dark and stormy" did not use dark rum as xpected, and was bland but for the ginger slice-yum!. That said, the food is very good. Butternut squash soup, tho lukewarm, was outstanding; creamy and flavorful with bits of bacon for texture. Flatbread was superb-apples and brie with an onion jam. Prime rib was cooked as ordered, and tasty, but cold; au jus was salty. We plan to visit again in 6 mos. to see if it has improved.

Our server appeared to be poorly-trained for his job. He took a significant amount of time coming to greet us. We ordered and received our appetizer and still did not have silverware or small plates. He poured my drink, spilled some, and didn't bring me a napkin to clean the spill until I asked-- two passbys later. He appeared busy, but the restaurant did not appear particularly busy throughout our visit. When we asked for the check, he took a significant amount of time to bring it and then more time to collect our credit card, and still more time to bring back the receipts to sign. I wanted to love this place.
